As they should be. Drafting success has been nil.

I'm not. Wish they would rescind the option and let him walk. He is not worth anywhere near 9.2 let alone stunting the growth of this defense for any more years. We have seen the best of Dupree which isn't saying much.

Rappaport reporting that CJ Mosley is signing with Jets for $85M with $51M guaranteed.

These monster contracts point to one of the problems the Steelers have. They're going to have adjust their contract philosophy to keep up with the Joneses or they'll keep running into more AB/Bell type problems.

Yupp. They'll never keep anyone top tier if they continue to follow the philosophy they do. They have to realize the players of today have a different mindset than even 10 years ago.

Couple thoughts at WR.. Golden Tate and Tyrrell Williams are going to cost at least 12 a year. Funchess got 13. Williams is a solid outside deep threat but Is he 6 to 8 mil better than Hunter or Washington? Tate is a slot reveiver so unless JUJU gets moved outside which i think would be a bad idea, then Tate doesht help a whole lot.

How about taking a shot at Kevin White from the bears. Former 1st round pick was a stud in college but had some injuries early and never recovered and never really got another shot. He's big target with great talent. We have historically been incredible at developing receivers. He'd be in the bargain bin

Unless we snag someone late our best hope is to look toward the draft. Today's free agency does not correlate with the Steelers philosophy in the front office.

Mosley is good, and I wanted him, but he's not at all worth the price tag. That said, these moves will probably entice Bell to sign in New York. They'll probably finish a terrific 7-9. lol

    There's a reason Pittsburgh's defense just doesn't improve consistently.

What they're worth doesn't seem to matter anymore. It's guaranteed money these days.

I think he will go to philly. But I could be wrong. But you're worth whatever someone is willing to pay you.

When asked for comment, Steelers GM Kevin Colbert said: "Bud has done everything we've asked of him. No one in the National Football League is better at attacking 10 yards behind the QB. We know we'll always have that spot covered."

That’s false. Just because someone overpays doesn’t mean that is the true value.

This is correct. If you go back and review the mega deals signed in the past several years, probably 80%+ worked out poorly for the acquiring team. If keeping up with the Jones’s means overpaying and failing to have those deals pay off in the win column, then screw the Jones’s.

Steelers philosophy has never been to pay top dollar for other teams free agents, it's not a problem.... the team has been successful for a long stretch of time. Look at the teams spending big money....Oakland, Jets, Jacksonville.... all perennial bad teams. We will draft 7-10 kids and still compete for a division title.

Not just them. Green bay, eagles, and chiefs spent some. Even NE got top dollar guys here and there they just dont keep guys for long. They get rid of you a year before the decline. We have never from what I could remember signed any big name free agent from another team. Pats did sign revis. They did sign Gilmore and gave him a big payday. They grabbed rodney harrison. You have to do a little bit of both. Cant just be sole draft and cant just be sole offseason. Because it's very rare any team is going to strike a superstar on every draft pick. Only team from recent memory I think did that was the seahawks. But that's very rare.

Most of those teams are forced into those deals because of the minium salary requirements. It's why the Browns traded for Oswieller with no intention of keeping him. They need his huge salary to reach the league minimum.

It's not the total amount or even the guaranteed amount to some degree that's the problem. It's how they structure deals. The Steelers give a signing bonus then guarantee the first year's salary. Other teams now provide a signing bonus and guarantee 2-3 years salary.

Yupp pretty much everyone does this. Even the Patriots because they guranteed gilmore 40m of his 65m overall. We are literally the only team that hasnt done that with anyone including even the guys we drafted.
