Florio at NBC/PFT has a theory that Ben wants AB gone before he will sign an extension. I don’t subscribe to that theory, but it could help explain why the Steelers are so focused on a trade come hell or high water.

What's he gonna do retire? I really hope that's not true. You wanna play or not?

I read that last night. Interesting theory but total speculation. (as was admitted in the article)

Can we void his contract? Make him a FA and have him pay back whatever upfront money he was given. Wait for the comp pick next year....I mean after all the guy is a cancer,he has to go,he would immediately ruin any team he goes to,no? The comp pick may be better than we end up getting. There no way to keep him and make it work, right? We would also get the cap savings right away that we could use.....

If this is truly his intention, it's not very well thought out. Not only is he driving down his trade value, he's driving down his free agency value as well.

Other GM's are watching and taking note. I would think that even if a team would get him for a lower round pick, they'll still be hesitant to give him too large an amount of guaranteed money due to the way that he's behaving now.

As it stands, he has 3 years at roughly $12M/year left on his contract. Even though that money isn't guaranteed it really kind of is. No one is going to release a WR of his caliber for that salary as long as he isn't a big pain in the ass. It's pretty much perform like you're capable, be a good citizen, collect $36M over the next 3 years. The smart play would be to be on your best behavior for 2 years, then politely seek an extension before year 3.....collect $24M, then get one last contract with something guaranteed north of the $12M that you're due in year 3.

If he thinks that ANYONE is going to give him a new contract with at least $36M in guaranteed money now after the way that he's conducted himself and said the things that he's saying, he's on crack.

I don't know what level you have to reach to for this to happen, but I would guess that he's well on his way to getting there. He's at least getting close to conduct detrimental if he's indeed sabotaging trade deals. I'm sure that if the Steelers would pursue this avenue, it would get messy legally and they'd probably want to avoid it....for now.

Honestly I think that's what AB really wants. He wants to become a FA so he can pick his new team and sign a new contract. I think it's the worst case scenario for the Steelers because he would end up somewhere that would end up biting them in the ass. If that were to happen I can see him ending up in NE as a hired gun of sorts on a 1year deal. Sadly he would be a model citizen up there for that year at least....

That's where AB holds the cards. He says he'll walk away from football if he doesn't get his deal. Sometimes people mean what they say. (L Bell comes to mind...)

He is absolutely trying to get cut instead of being traded. He probably thinks he’ll be cut if a trade doesn’t materialize. It CAN’T happen or this team - and the NFL - will suffer a massive loss of credibility in contract enforcement.

You're right and aren't they heading for a lockout soon? There are going to be a lot of these contract situations on the table when they sit down. Things need to be revamped ,like the franchise tag. I heard quite a few players saying it was a mistake to agree to that. The players get the short end of the stick in the toughest of any of the sports leagues. Football is the most popular and profitable sport and the players are treated the worst contract wise. I don't see the people complaining about MLB and the NBA and their ridiculous guaranteed contracts. Why is that?

    AB doesn't hold any cards.

Bell is a different situation regarding money. He walked away from getting money that he didn't yet come into possession. If AB retires, he's going to have to pay back a very large portion of the signing bonus of his last contract. It's one thing to never get the money. It's a whole different ball game when you've got to write checks back to your employer.

I disagree as a lot of other teams would have cut bait at this point. Seems we worry too much about pride.

He wont retire but I'm sure he'd make himself such a problem that the team would have no choice but to get rid of him.

If Rooney extends him this offseason I eat my words. He seemed pretty ambiguous in his comments. It did say he would not commit to a new deal when asked but pushed it off until later. Don't want to hijack the tread with this so we can discuss elsewhere.

I'm predicting it's the Raiders with their 2nd round #35 total overall pick.

I go away from the 1st round concept as they initially backed out and probably got back in the game after the Bills deal went south.

They probably have been negotiating the 2nd round pick but the Steelers wanted the 1st. I don't think the Steelers would take less than a high 2nd round pick for Brown.

Just a guess but we will find out. I think Gruden is in a Mike Ditka/Saint's like position and where he needs to start winning with that big contract $$$. He needs good players to make that happen (read that as desperate lol). He has a big enough ego to where I'm sure he feels he can handle Brown.

Maybe the Raiders throw in a late round pick also to help the Steelers give a go ahead for trade. There's my final prediction.

I am a teacher in a classroom full of kids with emotional/behavioral problems. When I have a 9 year old screaming at the top of his lungs and bouncing his head off the wall because I said no to something, am I going to give in to stop the tantrum? If I do that, every kid in the class is going to scream and bounce their head off the wall when I say no. Maybe not every, but you see my point.
I agree that the Steelers can not give AB what he wants just because they know it will get ugly.
Get fair compensation or come up with a behavior plan to deal with him.
    This is ridiculous!

Why would Antonio Brown want a trade from the Steelers?
Brown should not want to be traded. If he wants out of Pittsburgh, he should do everything in his power to be released from his contract. There is far more money for him in free agency.

While Brown can’t block a trade, he can do enough to make teams wary of trading for him unless they give him a raise.

What's even more of a concern is that this behavior is a something they have to worry about for grown ass men with multi-million dollar contracts.
