Like him but Taylor Rapp from the University of Washington gives you more range (by Strong Safety standards) and a bit more flexibility. Johnathan's ball production is also something a bit concerning as well. Appears to be more so a box safety type.

Sad thing is we already have one on the roster. Marcus Allen is a box safety who still needs developed. Personally, I believe Allen can become better within his skillset in time.

I'd agree with AQL, definitely a SS type which we already have on the roster.

We need a dynamic FS with great range. We don't have that.

I like this guy so far. I watched his Ole Miss and Iowa games. Aside from one horrific blown coverage on one play vs Iowa, he was very solid. He’s definitely a box safety, but he shows pretty good ability to flip his hips and get back in coverage. Way, WAY better than Marcus Allen’s college tape in coverage. I need to watch more, but in no way would I discount him as a potential 2nd round pick yet.

After watching a couple more games of Abram, I’m a bit less interested. In particular the Kentucky game was not a good tape for him in run defense. A couple of whiffs, a couple of bad angles and most concerning, he consistently gave up ground after contact when he made tackles. Sometimes 2, 3, 4 yards during the course of making the tackle. This wouldn’t be too concerning for a smaller FS type, but this guy’s strength is supposed to be playing the run and tackling. The K State game was OK, but nothing special. There’s definitely a lot to work with here for a good DB coach, but I’m thinking 3rd round or later for realistic value. JMO.

Do we have a SS on the roster? Edmunds really doesn't strike me as a true SS, and we also don't know a lot about Marcus Allen just yet...

I'm wondering if Abrams falls to us in the 1st we take Abram and move Edmunds to Free. Sean Davis is solid, but he doesn't give us anything in term of splash plays, I could moving on from him or losing his starter spot.

I doubt that happens, Savage would be a better option, he's what they need a fast FS.

I think a lot of teams like Savage, I highly doubt we are able to get him in the 2nd.

Is Edmunds really a strong safety though, he rarely was up at the line last year?

Between him and Davis they are both hybrids.

Edmunds is bigger than Polamalu. Let's hope he can play SS at a high level.

There's still Adderley, Thornhill, Gardner-Johnson, and Hooker who could be available in the second round or later.

I do not believe Pittsburgh has not met Amani Hooker at all. Thornhill the same. Chauncey just might be the player. Personally though, I do not see Darnell making it to Day Two now.

Folks we need a Free safety, Hell even a Ryan Clark in his prime talent will do, It doesn't have
to be an Earl Thomas. Watch how much better a play making FS would make the entire secondary.
Not counting the pass rush. Get R done Steelers.

I'm still holding out hope that they sign Tre Boston after the draft, if they don't nab one in the early rounds. He's still a FA if I'm not mistaken.

Then they can reach for Savage at #20

I don't care how they get one thru the draft or FA just get one. Sean Davis is a liability.

both safeties led the team in tackles last year. davis the last two. free him up from having to do the LB'ers job and these two will be better in coverage.

Davis shows the football instincts of a fence post.

It wouldn't bother me if they did, Savage would replace Davis at FS in 2020.

I'd rather he replace Davis in 2019.

Am I only one who thinks Edmunds might be better as free safety?

I don't see him as a pure FS. He has some traits but not the complete skillset. That's the problem with him and Davis. Neither are a true FS or SS.

I think if we can keep the same players and the same positions back there for More than half a season they would all be better.
