I have a feeling that the Patriots are going to come after James in FA. Gronk may retire. It just seems like something the Patriots would do. They love having multiple TEs, and the fact that it would weaken a competitor is just icing on the cake. Vance was as healthy this past season as he has ever been. Hopefully that trend continues, but the Steelers can't count on that. I hope the Steelers make a solid effort to keep JJ in Pittsburgh. The Steelers TE corps is stronger when JJ is a part of it. With the WR position up in the air, the last thing the Steelers need is another hole to fill.

If he leaves, they will definitely draft one then. Hockenson would look good in the black and gold :hehehe:.

Honestly, I would be happy with either of the Iowa TEs. I would just rather focus on defense, and not have to spend an early draft pick on a position that is already strong, if we keep what we have.

Chowderheads are going to go after Hockenson for sure. They have a ton of picks and I can see them weaseling their way into a spot to get him.... As far as outlaw goes, I don't think they would make a run at him.

I think the Steelers will bring him back. He's steady eddy and tough as nails. Don't think he has missed a game yet.

Comes up with catches to keep the chains moving. I think he should be featured more than he is.

Kind of attitude this team needs, team guy all the way. He won't be looking to break the bank, he'll be back.

Yes. He had 2 drops last season. How long are fans going to kill him because of some bs rule that should have been a game winning TD.

Such a bad rule that they changed it because of that call.

To this day I will still make the argument that the JJ catch, was a catch, even by the prior rules. Anyway you slice it he caught that ball.

JJ's hands are great. His blocking has improved significantly. He runs nice tight routes with excellent timing. The only thing that keeps JJ from being a fulltime starter is that he is not going to break any tackles, and he certainly doesn't bowl people over like Vance does.

The more and more I think about it, James may be a hot commodity in FA. There are not a lot of options out there for a team looking to sign a FA TE.

I don't remember what game it was but when he ran down the guy returning the blocked extra point and was going in for the score, he showed me more speed than I ever thought he had!

JJ's hands are blah...His blocking sucks, he just shields guys...Slow as molasses, and catches the ball and falls down...when he isn't tripping over his own feet...Just not a fan sorry

It was Jesse James. I will find the game. Funny how people can have perceptions that are simply dead wrong.

If you go to the highlights, it's the first TD the Steelers score at 7:47 in the 3rd.

agreed. he isn't what they need at that position. they need some who is an better receiver and a really, really good blocker. Gronk is both. JJ is average at best in both areas, he certainly will never scare anyone in the passing game like gronk does. In fairness, NO TE scares people in the passing game like gronk, Kelsey is close especially now that gronk seems to have slowed a bit, and the gap between JJ and kelsey is a bout 10 miles wide.

You might have been thinking of the game vs Bears a couple seasons ago when Vance ran down a blocked FG return to prevent a TD.
