Why are you talking draft day trades to frame this debate? This would be a veteran player at the peak of his career and before this current poo storm at the peak of his popularity. The numbers speak for themselves so when you are checking off pros vs cons I still have to feel the pros outnumber the cons. If he hadn't quit on the team and this was a one day locker room flare up people on this board would be asking crazy picks in a trade like 3 1sts, and maybe a third. The guy has real value which is why the Pats, Ravens and Browns are off the table as trade partners. You don't give them weapon like Brown unless you want to lose.

T.O at 30 was traded for a 5th round pick. Moss at 29 traded for a 4th. Can you show me a wr with AB's problems that went for a first rd pick at 31? But I'm bringing up those trades because those are the type of trades it takes to get a 1st. Also when has a TOP TEN PICK been traded that early for a wr? The only thing you can go off is draft day trades.

Who would the Steelers even take with a top 10 pick? Mocks got the 49ers taking Josh Allen, edge rusher from Kentucky. I'm not sure Steelers fans are too fond of those. Only way is if they really like Devin White and they would have to get in front of the Bengals.

Those are the type of trades it takes to move on draft day using only picks. If the Rams pick up the phone and say to the 49ers what will it take to get the 2nd overall pick from them and they say Donald what will happen? The Rams hang up and say publicly they are crazy but in house they are saying wow they are really serious about how they value that pick.

This situation is more of a player/player swap with some added in bonus picks. Trading a player of Browns caliber for a unknown draft pick even a top 10 pick is a buyer beware type of deal. You are giving up a 1000 yard receiver with dbl digit TDS for what?

It's better than taking the cap hit and losing the player without getting a decent value for him. They actually have more cap space for 2019 if they keep Brown.

Did either of those teams take a massive salary cap hit to trade those players?

Is that correct? From what i read we save about 1 million by trading him. Now whether we save or spend more I guess it depends on who we would replace Brown with.

Good. Ideal situation for the Steelers which keeps him out of the conference. If I'm the FO, then I'm all ears.

Value is determined by both teams in the deal. My entire point is that the Steelers shouldn't be trading Brown without getting proper value, in part because the move costs them cap room rather than giving them more flexibility. They are losing an elite player and taking a big cap hit for a second-round pick? That's a terrible move.

It doesn't. The Steelers save real money as in the salary they would have to pay him if he stayed, but they lose cap room because the rest of his signing bonus money goes from being spread out over the remainder of the deal to being part of the 2019 cap.

If Brown does not get traded, that will have unthinkably, colossal ramifications. Toxicity within a locker room can spread. Who knows what the likes of James or even JuJu would behave assuming Brown stays.

That is one of many reasons why Tomlin should be the one to go. Of course, that won't happen.

Team chemistry is important. It's not so important that the team should be throw away it's cap flexibility for the sake of unloading an elite player at pennies on the dollar.

Keep him and handle it. If Tomlin can't do that, then maybe ownership will finally come around and make the necessary change after the 2019 season.

    Technically, Mahomes is a sophomore.

Sure, it's possible that his play drops off a bit. It would be tough to maintain his current level, but he is ridiculously talented and seems to have his head on straight. Mahomes has as strong an arm as anybody in the league. He's very athletic. He already knows how to scramble to buy time and keep his eyes down field. He's got accuracy and touch on his throws. He seems to have a great understanding of a complex offense and he says all the right things. I think it helps that he is the son of a pro athlete, so he grew up around the culture, even if it was a different sport.

Injuries can always make a mess of things, but otherwise, I think it is more likely that Mahomes continues to be one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL for a long time.

That is also something to keep in mind when talking about the heavy price the Chiefs paid to get him. They believed he was going to be special and teams tend to overpay for quarterbacks in the draft, anyway.

I Agree with you. But MOST people here from what I'VE seen ignore talent when a player wants out from their favorite team. They then forget who he was and what he has done.
