Has you Steelers Fanship waned?

With all the drama this year Bell Ben Ab and everything else. Are you less of a fan when there were players like Ward, Bettis and Troy? I'm still a fan but was definitely a bigger fan when those players were representing the Steelers.

 

I'm still a fan and always will be, but the excitement and anticipation for new seasons is not what is used to be. Steelers have been a disappointment, especially the past 4 years. The only thing the Steelers are consistent at anymore is underachieving.

 

Will never be less of a fan but I have a hard time imagining me being more disappointed than I am now....but I guess there's still plenty of time

 

It's not just the Steelers. As I get older, my enthusiasm for the NFL has waned. Ridiculous officiating and rules are the culprit.

 

Still a fan but yea I liked the team better when they had guys like Heinz, Troy, farrier, Smith, Bettis and yea cowher.. The team now is so unlikeable. I used to be able to root for players on the team now I just root for the team and could give a rats ass about the players on it

 

never. it's just another step in the saga that is the most successful SB winning team in history. Art2 needs to show his stuff as the new head honcho soon. that has been my biggest concern since the drama has started.

 

I remember when the Steelers won Super Bowl XL. It was the first Steelers Super Bowl win in my lifetime. I was 20. I felt so happy. I remember telling my girlfriend (now my wife) at the time, I can now die a happy man. I was a 10 year old kid being sad, when Neil threw away Super Bowl XXX. I knew it wasn't an easy thing to win.
Then just 3 years later. Boom Steelers won another one, which I thought they were going to lose, after Larry Fitzgerald scored. Then more magic.
Then a couple years later, I thought we might win our 7th but then boom taken away with a Rashard Mendenhall fumble.

I never attended any of these Super Bowls in person, but was able to be there at Heinz Field when Troy ran back the pick six. I was there when we took down the Jets to make it the Super Bowl.

Memories that I wish we could add too. Moments I hope we get back too. Because they make it worth it to put up with stuff that has gone on the last couple of seasons.

But, my best buddy is a life long Browns fan. He longed just to see his team get good again. Year after year of pain staking pain for him. So, it makes me really cherish the good moments we had.

I hope we can turn it around and make it back. But a lot of people say, Steelers are going to be worse off etc. No Bell No Brown. But, let's see we have won 3 playoff games with Brown here.

I watched the Steelers win 2 Super Bowls with an offensive line, that was not as good as the one we have.
Had an undrafted running back out of UNC.
Had a college QB turned special teams player turned #1 starting WR who had good hands, could block well, but really lacked break away speed.
Also had another college QB turned WR who had some speed but was small.
Had some other Free Agent WR named Cedric Wilson.
Had an over the hill running back. Then we to some other guy named Gary Russell as a back up running back after the bus left.

Talent wise were those Steelers teams as offensively talented. No. But they played as unit made plays when it mattered and won and they weren't filled with a bunch of drama.
They bought into the system and won.
Same with the defense. We shore up our defense. I think the offense will take care of itself. We have a good QB and good line, and that makes the specialist players better, even if they aren't elite.

Just my thoughts, keep cheering through thick and thin. When your married to the Steelers your married to the Steelers.
If your not, then you weren't married in the 1st place.
No divorces allowed.

 

I am still a huge Steelers fan. Less of a NFL fa. As a whole. I can honestly only watch the Steelers play.

I couldn't watch the ravens chargers game. Maybe 15 min.

I still have blinders on and hold the Steelers as the model franchise. Right or wrong.

So to answer your question. No. I am just as involved as always. I pull for the team. Not the players so the drama doesn't make me happy but I keep it in perspective cause this day and age it ain't getting better

This team has slid quite a bit in the time I have been following them (since I was 14 back in 1959). I've been through some tough times with them over the years but they were always the same proud franchise regardless of whether they won or lost. In the last couple of years they have changed and are becoming a joke. I have followed them too long to ever change but it keeps getting more difficult to maintain the same level of interest with all of the circus sideshows that keep happening with them.
My main disappointment is with Rooney and Tomlin because they should have the power to start making changes and they do nothing. Because I am 73 and have some health issues I don't have much time to wait for the changes. Rooney can't be replaced but Tomlin can be.
I don't now if that fixes everything but it would be a start. It would be nice to see them start to fix some of the problems now before next season begins.

 

the limited partners wanted MT gone last year. there is one guy that keeps the standard the standard. art2. he has not impressed me as our leaders in the past. this has gone array under his watch.

 

I dunno, I think there was drama when those guys were here. Different stories, but still drama. The starting QB drove his motorbike through a van window. I wouldn't put these in the same boat as AB throwing tantrums, but the point is that there are divisions and disturbances going on all the time. It's frustrating as hell to see it happen, but it doesn't make me less of a fan particularly. In fact, I get more irritated about it precisely because I'm still a fan. I get over the losses a bit easier these days, but that's less to do with the team and more to do with me turning into an old bastard.

The only thing that really makes me feel less of a fan is every time the defense does that stupid team photo pose thing as a celebration. Seriously, just stop it.

I’ve been a fan for a very long time. The above sums up my current feeling.

 

Nope. Just have other things in life that got bumped up the priority list.
Still as much as a diehard fan now as when I was 20 years ago, but I haven’t watched a full game in a couple of years. Once kids are independent I’ll probably get more invested again.

Picking between a trip to a local orchard with the clan on a glorious autumn afternoon versus plopping my butt on the couch for 3 hours isn’t much of a decision to make at this point.

 

Yeah, the anticipation is gone. I'll have to see who are the coaches and who are the players. Will the Tomlin and Rooney still tolerate egocentrics? Will there be a culture of team first and self second? The goal is the Super Bowl, not stroking your ego. Will the players act like juveniles celebrating every good play as if they alone were responsible and not congratulating their teammates on a well executed team effort? Guys like Watt act as if the never made a sack before. Before long he will be the new A. H. Brown. Were there any professionals on this team last year?

 

Nah, I turned into a Patriots fan because I self-loathed a little too much.

Years ago, sometime between the Steelers 4th Super Bowl win and their fifth, I figured a Super Bowl win was worth about 25 years, and as I think of it now, 32 years, since there are 32 teams. So I figured 4 titles should cover 100 years. Now the Steelers have won all six in my lifetime, so I have been blessed as a fan that should cover a 192 years. But do I want to see another one. Absolutely. I am hoping Tomlin tightens the screws on the ship and displays the leadership he had the first couple of years he had as a coach.

 

No, I'm just less of a NFL fan. I use to watch every NFL game on TV and I could careless anymore. The biggest issue with the Steelers is the team being so unlikable. In the past we'd defend them even if they were bad because we liked them. With Bell, AB, Harrison, and the current culture we don't have those blinders and call them out for being ****.

 

I love the draft time and the speculation around it just as much as I love the games on Sunday. With each disappointing season my fanship strengthens because the wheels start turning about what players we could potentially draft and what moves could be made to secure the future.

 

I don't know whether you could classify my fanship as "waning". I've been a die-hard fan since the early 70's, and haven't missed a regular/post-season snap since the mid-90's. And I will continue to be a fan for life (unless they relocate).

But I've learned to change my expectations over the past 5-6 years. Now, instead of getting mad about them blowing a game against an inferior opponent, I just expect it. When they manage to hold on and beat the Pats or run toe-to-toe with the best team in the league (despite coaching idiocies), that makes me happy. But I'm not going to lose sleep over it anymore.

 

Been a fan since the 70's as well, I will say my enthusiasm to spend big money on tickets has waned, but I still wear my apparel proud, even after losses..... but I won't support selfish players. This coming from a guy that was an 8 year old kid that once tried to get an autograph from Terry Bradshaw.... only to be disappointed as he rambled something stupid and said 'no autographs'.

 

Steelers have been in my family from the start of Steelers football. My grandparents, my dad, myself (they won their first when I was 7), and now my son. I am a lifer. That said, yes, my passion has fallen off a lot the last few years but that has more to do with my waning interest in the NFL overall. I used to watch as many games as possible. Now I only watch the Steelers and often on replay from DVR record. I still love and support the team, but not as hardcore as I once was.
