I'll throw a name out there....Eric Mangini. He last served as SFs DC. I don't know a ton about him but I have heard that he has a impressive football mind. Thoughts?

If Fangio doesn't get a head coaching job then why would he leave Chicago? He's built that D up over the past 4 years. He now has an all pro LB in Mack, as well as DL and secondary he can count on. Wouldn't make sense to leave that to try and resurrect the Steelers defense to greatness.

Venables should be a hot commodity. With all his defensive stars leaving I don't doubt he bolts either to the NFL or for a HC gig job within the NCAA.

I'm up for a DC. I want someone either with solid experience or a track record of success.

    I'm done with Keith Butler.

You mean like Troy did for us?

Aside from that, wasn't Schiano found complicit (or at least believed to be) in the Penn St. Sandusky Scandal?

I know they hated him here in TBay.

Butler is staying so this is a moot point.

I agree with you BUT it looks like butler is staying... Did you know Fitchner helped get Tomlin his first coaching job, it was at Arkansas state, He was the OC and Butler was the DC.... Butler talked him into being a defensive coach. When the Steelers hired Tomlin he texted Fitchner and said... I got the job and so did you. Butler was already there........ Those three are tight and have been a long time....

Yeah that story was on Steelers.com earlier this season. It's not a good Oman for possible change.

Per multiple reports, it's likely Schiano will join the Patriots as the DC after the season.

Obviously this thread showed many Steeler fans would not have wanted him anyways, but I think it speaks volumes that Mike Tomlin and the Steelers are comfortable in keeping Keith Butler around while Bill Belichick aggressively pursued Schiano as their DC.

He didn't do anything to impress me in TB. Bill loves him though. He likely knows a lot more about it than I do.

Good hire by Belichick. Schiano would have been a great hire here. Personally I think Schiano is exactly the kind of coach the Steelers need. The guy is a no-nonsense, disciplinarian, who would have been a huge upgrade in terms of defensive schemes and play calling. Instead, we get a low level Bengals assistant, to share the DC role with Keith Butler. Goes to show you why we are what we are, and the Patriots play in the Super Bowl every freakin year.

We already have a DC and he's the perfect fit for this team.....we can always use the excuse....the Butler did it as long as he remains here.

OSU has more 5 star players than everybody except Bama. I could coach them to a 10-2 record.
