Schiano split from Ohio State today.

Schiano is probably the complete opposite personality from Butler and I think he's exactly what we need to reign in and focus a young defense. I think we need a bit of a taskmaster.

I know he rubbed some the wrong way in his stint of the Bucs Head Coach. He's an accomplished college coach and one of the better defensive minds.

He's already being Linked to the Patriots as DC should current coordinator Brian Flores leave for a head gig.

Do we have an opening for a DC?

Not yet, but we can hope. I think coaching decisions are still being made.

That's all most casual fans remember of him. I never had a problem with it in the first place. Defend yourself when on the football field. No different than hitting a QB who splits out wide in a wildcat formation.

His experience and attitude is what our team is lacking.

He was a co-defensive coordinator until this year. The OSU defense took a step back this year.

I don't know about all that, I feel that was bush league a lot different than a QB split out. I am not doubting his experience I just don't want that crap here we have enough of that already, jmo

I believe he was the co-coordinator in 2016 but took over as DC in 2017.

If Bill Belichick ends up with Schiano as his DC and Mike Tomlin retains Keith Butler, I think that speaks volumes.

Nick Bosa jettisoning for the NFL did not assist in that matter. That dude is a game changer. Ohio State's defense fell back to the pack after Bosa left. Personally, I do not believe even the coaches knew that Nick was going to call it quits after that; Greg Schiano no less.

Difficult to actually compensate for a player of Bosa's caliber. That being said, I am willing to explore other options. Tom Bradley's inaugural season was better than many people gave it credit for. Why not go for someone like Schiano? I would say Lovie Smith but he is way too reliant on the Linebackers.... like someone else we know!!

Oh no lovie. Yes bosa hurt but one guy should not change a whole defense. I like shiano no but not as our DC. Now Brent venables. Oh yea.

Bosa is a penetrating, disrputive chesspiece. He is just as technically proficient as his brother. Thing that sets him apart is he a better athlete than Joey.

Given those attributes, he is very special. Add all that up and Nick is a transcendent talent. That cannot be replaced.

Venables would also be intriguing. Would have to imagine he will draw some interest. He's been with Clemson a long time now. That staff doesn't seem to have much turnover.

Not to highjack the thread, but what about Narduzzi from Pitt? I read he has a strong defensive background. Worked with MSU and made them a relevant BIG outfit. Any thoughts on Narduzzi?

No, he's not successful enough of a college coach to make the transition.

I bet you Schiano would not have your slow middle linebackers cover the opposing teams best receiver all game. :thumbs up:

yea i know that but OSU still has blue chip players. one guy should not change a defense that much with that type of talent to choose from. he has always had someone else to hold his hand too. fickell and ash. just not that sold on him.

I don't see schiano in NE.... Belicheat most likely already has someone he has groomed....

How about Clemsons DC Brent Venables...... After watching them destroy Alabama last night and noticing his defense was prepared and disciplined in their assignments.

At the very least maybe Porters replacement....

They tried to replace Shazier with Bostic....... And it failed as we all knew it would.
