    Maybe, maybe not.
Here’s the thing Mac I’ve heard you make this same argument with a couple other players and it didn’t work out for them either.

Ravens know a thing or two about building the front 7. They may see his strengths and be willing to work around his weaknesses. Or maybe he’ll flame out like 90% of players.

Either way I’m disappointed that he wasn’t even given a chance to play in the game day defense, even when on the active roster, with injuries in front of him, and lackluster play from those ahead of him on the depth chart.

I was one of the few that said everyone here would like AB after we picked him. Foster, AV, hilton, harrison, vrabel, kuhn, vincent, sanders, fort, everett, that's a few that I remember.

A defensive player gets signed off our practice squad by a team that currently has a defense that is one of the best in the league. Maybe he doesn't start but just maybe he makes the team and becomes a great special team playmaker on coverage unit. That in itself would be worth McCullers spot on the roster. Watched McCullers get stood up and back peddling on every run play he was in for against Bengals, total waste of a roster spot.

If Thomas makes their team it will only show how inept our defensive coaching is.

I would have liked to have kept Kuhn, he had a decent career with GB. We haven't had a true power back since Bettis left, except for Blunt pretty sure that's how to spell it.

Mac is always pimpin the young guys and thinking of player combinations that have a good chance of being effective on the field. He was right about Fort being a nice player and I tend to believe that his Fort /Thomas tandem in the passing game would of provided dividends for our D. Sadly he was never even given the opportunity to prove it either way.

You’re missing my point Mac. You’re naming players who’ve made it here and that just strengthens my argument.
My point is we’ve got it right with so many players that when we let a guy loose why do you get so worked up and think they made a mistake?
That’s why I ask who have we let go that went on to make an impact anywhere else? I can think of a couple out of a hundred guys.

Will be interesting to see how this kid does with the Rats, was a lot of talk about the talent of Thomas but his off field stuff was his issue in college right?

I was unaware of any off field problems? My understanding was he was unable to learn the defense.

Thomas, the No. 1 linebacker recruit in the country in 2013, missed 19 games due to suspensions in his five years at Florida State. He missed six games of the 2014 season for a violation of team rules after seeing playing time as a true freshman on the Seminoles national championship team. He was ruled academically ineligible for the entire 2015 season after his mother died from lung disease.

“I had a lot of issues, a lot of stuff going on in college,” Thomas said Friday after the first practice of minicamp. “I’ve been through a lot.”

They had to make room for the OLB Ola who was coming off IR..

The fact that he didn't even play ST says a lot.

Not going to lie that I'm a little POed that he signed with the Ravens of all teams.

My prediction is that Matt Thomas is starting in this league in 2 to 3 years as a serviceable starter that makes plays.

Not necessarily. They did keep him on the roster all season. Maybe they were just comfortable with what they had on STs and he could of been in line to back up if someone got injured on STs.

    yes......

There is a hardship there that could be explained, his mother passed away in early 2015, the same year as his academic ineligibility, and it’s probably fair to assume those two things are related. Still, there was a big backstory to try and swift through.
