"Dungy's replacement" won because he had the Dungy-built monster D (and their SB opponent's playbook and signal-calling, verbatim).

Yet, they never do. I will never understand the coaching on that type of play.

You have a point about the Chiefs defense. Their worse than us and we rank dead last as a secondary the last time I checked. It might have changed by now. That was during the 3 game losing streak.

It’s just such a disappointment to most likely miss the playoffs with so much talent. That said we’re still not eliminated so go Browns!

But we could of gotten him in the second or third round. Instead we take him in the first round. To me he hasn’t done much of anything yet, but I guess give him a couple more years and we’ll decide if he’s a bust.

I just expect when you take a player in the first round for him to make an almost immediate impact. I like our pick of Watt. We whiffed on so many corners it’s crazy. You’d think one of them would turn out to be a stud.

The reaching of talent of the number 1 pick in the draft
and missing has cost the Steelers drastically. You have to have production
from these guys almost immediately in this age of football. And we haven't
Jarvis Jones, Bud Dupree, Artie Burns, Sean Davis loss of Shazier. Can"t
    miss on the 1's two's.

We have a one and two starting in the d line. We have two number one picks at old and one of those plays well. We have a one and two at safety and both start and one has started for all three years in different positions. The other is a rookie. That's it on defense. Burns was benched so that's the second miss on defense. We need more top picks in defense to be made. We have conner. Washington. Juju. All the corners after burns and the job are not too picks. We probably should have used the Washington pick on defense. We went after a an with pick 3 last year and a backup I lineman. We needed defensive help. We can't put these 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th rounders on the field and expect it all to work smoothly. To much boa picking and no propriety to fill holes. The top half of this draft needs to be for filling needs.

Off Topic: Something most of us alreadY knew HARRISON NOT HOLDING BACK: Says Coach Tomlin is only a Super Bowl champion because he had Bill Cowher's players.

Well... duh. Tell us something we don't know JH. Timmons and Woodley were the only Tomlin-drafted contributors on SBXLIII team.

Just think we could have drafted Byron Jones, one of the top corners in the league, instead of Bud frickin’ Dupree...

Yeah, I saw that the other day. There is a lot of truth to what Harrison is saying but also some sour grapes. I am not surprised that JH is not a Tomlin fan after the way his 2017 season went.

    Back that up.
When I checked right now, they are top 10 in net yards per passing attempt. I dont see *any* defensive stat that is “dead last”.

I said the last time I checked. It was during the 3 game losing streak. I should of put that, but I don’t care what the stats say our secondary stinks.

If a good QB has the ball with a few minutes left we’re losing almost every time, because we can’t stop anyone. You can’t say I’m not right about that.

I’d love to say we do have a good defense and I have faith in them, but I don’t. It’s been the teams achilles heal for awhile now.

Excellent and articulately written insight, Scribe.

I posted elsewhere that Jason Whitlock said he doesn't think Tomlin is a bad coach, he just doesn't think he's the man to fix what ails the Steelers, and I agree with him.

It's ironic to me that the performance in the Saints game, which was a must win for Pittsburgh, was a showcase for everything that was good and bad about this team this season. The team hung in there with arguably the best squad in the league. But a fumble by a player that shouldn't have even been in the game, two bad PI calls, a third and twenty conversion for a first down, a refusal to challenge the fumble that wasn't and the final nail, JuJu's fumble.

The sad thing is, there are times this year when this offense has been a pleasure to watch. If they get in though, what team will we see? Unless they have a complete rebirth in one week, I fear we'll see more of the same. But as Howard Cossell used to say, "That's why they play the games!"
