Tomlin is hurting this franchise and needs to GTFO.

I think as Steelers fans we always have high expectations and 8-6-1 is a total disappointment since we don’t have 8-6-1 talent on this team IMHO. That being said, maybe we are getting to the point where we are playing .500 ball and if that is the case, then we shouldn’t be afraid to make the necessary changes to get this team back to the excellence we have all come to know.

What is disappointing to me is that the Browns, Ravens and Bengals have been on the down slide for some time and we can’t seem to take advantage of winning the North with ease. I don’t expect a SB every year, but with this team we should be deep in the playoffs every year and compete even when we lose. We don’t consistently compete and that shines brightly when you consistently lose against sub-par teams.

What I see is a consistently undisciplined team. Maybe we are in a down slide and I’m just too stubborn to see it or believe it. If that is the case....make the changes needed to rebuild as quickly as we can. If not, we are in for a long haul of .500 Steelers football.

I know what we have...A lot of great players...Possibly a few H.O.F. players...And a Coach who sucks, and a team that wins despite of him...Or loses quite often...When the other team.doesn't have near the talent they have

Tomlin has been here 12 years...In another thread I mentioned that since 2010 we have had the most pro bowl players of ANY team, and THREE playoff wins!

So obviously there is talent...But some people think people like me, are being crazy to even mention making a change...Just let him stay forever, or as long as he wants...Keep losing to ****ty teams every year, costing us seeding, home field advantages, or even playoffs altogether because...

We're not the Bills, Dolphins, 49'ers etc...We're competitive and not an embarrassment, Good enough...

Not for me...Tomlin has run his course...A damn good one I might say...But it's been run...He's making more and more mistakes costing talented teams, with a great QB ( who is almost done ) MORE!

    MORE...He has cost us more!

“So Coach Noll’s first meeting, I’ll never forget the speech he gave,” said Russell, who became a highly successful businessman after retiring from football in 1976. “He gets up and says, ‘I’ve been watching the game film since I took the job, and I can tell you guys why you’ve been losing.’ You could have heard a pin drop in that room. He says, ‘The reason you have been losing is you’re not any good.’”

I believe what Chuck Noll is saying that the Steeler players on film weren't making enough plays to win. Some players needed to go and the ones with talent weren't making enough plays. The great ones make plays. The great defensive players make plays by forcing fumbles and catching the ball for INT's. There is a reason why some players on the the defensive side of the ball, except Larry Brown. He seemed to be able to catch the ball.
If you play each snap with urgency, great will happen more times than not.

Example....not exactly sure, but 2003 or 2004 Joey Porter had a pick 6 vs Pats and dropped the ball. Game changer.

I could list tons of examples good and bad from Immaculate Reception, Neil O'Donnell SB 30, etc etc.

To win championships, winners find a way to make those amazing plays which aren't exactly how the plays were drawn up or a defender punching a ball out etc. Players need to make amazing plays to get over the top vs other amazing teams and players. The X and O's take you so far.

Recent game examples: Edelman catch in SB 51, Holmes catch in SB 43, Butler INT in SB 49, Tyree catch in SB 42, and last example which is honestly a guy making a huge play when NOBODY expected Adam Vinatieri to make that long field goal in the snow in the Tuck Rule game.

Willie Shoemaker who is considered one of the greatest horse jockeys of all time didn't win the Kentucky Derby 4-5 times riding a mule. He always said he was blessed with getting to work with the best horses, but sometimes an outstanding horse gets stubborn and won't run and sometimes they will compete with urgency. Nothing to do with talent.
He said the greatest horses of all time wanted to be trained and loved to strut when it was time to race. The greatest athletes of all time in any sport have the same traits. Our greatest teams or any championship team in ANY sport are filled with guys making plays....period.....

@NE Missouri Steeler@NE Missouri Steeler - I agree with your point, but it's never as simple as that. David Tyree was able to make that play to save the game because the defence shut Brady down. Now of course they had a great Dline which helps, but it's not as if Tyree won that game. That defence won that game.

Great coaches can make good players look great . Like I always say, how can Belichek constantly dump great players without missing a beat? Could it be that he puts his players in a position to succeed so that more times than not, they will be successful?

The truly elite players will always make plays, but there's only so many of those players to go around and David Tyree is not one of those players. Coaches need to get the most of out of the 95% of their players that aren't elite .

I would assume, but, in this day of fantasy everything, You can't be 100% sure. With the comments on here and elsewhere on the internet, it sounds like a good number of fans can't distinguish between reality and fantasy/Madden and would be calling for the head of whoever takes over from Tomlin if he doesn't have instant success! I trust the Rooneys and the Steeler way. 3 successful coaches since 1969 is an incredible thing!

Nobody is comparing the Steelers to the browns or any other team. The fact remains y’all think winning a championship is easy. You should be grateful to have witnessed your team win a championship. Instead y’all choose to act like spoiled children

I’ve been a Tomlin supporter on this board, and have consistently made the same arguments that I’m seeing from the pro-Tomlin crowd in this and other recent threads. After the second half debacle vs the Chargers, those supportive arguments started to seem questionable. After the Raider game, those arguments were flat out empty. It’s the same crap as in the past. Look at how we played vs New Orleans in their house. It took 2 horrid officiating calls and our own 2 fumbles and stupid fake punt for a 13-2 team to barely beat us in their house. We beat the Pats despite making drive-killing mistakes a few times. Where were those performances in the second half vs the Chargers or vs the Raiders?

Go back a year: we finish 13-3 and Tomlin openly talks about a rematch with the Pats in the AFCCG. Oops... forgot about those Jags coming to town first. Arrogance backfires.

Three years back: we push the eventual Super Bowl champs to the brink in their house without Bell and AB. However, the only reason we even got into the playoffs was because the Bills upset the Jets and did us a favor after we blew our chance to control our own destiny vs. the Ryan Maillett led Ravens, who were depleted by injuries.

This team has a tendency to shoot itself in the foot. Often. I’m getting tired of the whole “close but no cigar” routine, and I am having a hard time supporting Tomlin when we keep coming up short due to self-inflicted trauma. I think he’s holding this team back from achieving its potential.

I never said David Tyree won the game or Eli breaking the grasp to throw the ball. Did Asante Samuels dropped INT on that drive lose the game?? Why did the Patriots after Plaxico caught the go ahead TD, throw 3 straight bombs on their last possession, down 17-14 and ALL 3 timeouts?? The Patriots drove down the field for last minute field goals in SB 36 and 38. Why not try to get into field goal range and send it to overtime at least with their timeouts? Strahan, Tuck and Company did a great job, but I was shoked with 3 straight verticle routes and did NOT use any of their timeouts? It was year 2 for Gostkowski. I was ready for Brady to throw check downs and move down the field like any other game. So where was the coaching on that day? Best team of all time?? Undefeated record better than the 72 Dolphins?? The other Giant game, SB 46 had Manningham's great catch and Welker not making his usual catches. Did Holmes and Ben win SB 43 or was it really James Harrison's return? Swann's attitude in SB 10 was that he was going to catch anything close. In SB 9, he had 0 targets. In SB 10, he wanted to make a statement when thrown to. I would say he did just that. Just some examples. Thanks Jackie Smith.

Here is where I am going. I want to clarify. It takes any type of player, average or elite, to make contributions to the cause. Especially in the biggest of challenges, like championship games, it takes a group effort. The inches are all around and at the end of a season, add up all those inches from all the different contributors and see check the level of the team. Everyone has to throw bricks into their house. Nobody wins the games by themselves.
In defense of Coach Tomlin, he does not coach in the AFC East for 20 years either. Lets be a realist. I have coached at the college level for 2 years and the last 23 as a head coach at the high school level. We are always getting every player in position. Have them prepared to play fundamentally, and then ask each and every player to do something extraordinary. Not ordinary....add something extra. Coaches have to figure things out and make a great play call, players have to make a play out of nothing every now and then. Teams who play with urgency are the teams who sell out and never get soft with success and don't assume anything. IT IS A GROUP EFFORT. Our Steelers are minus on defense....period......the offense get careless when they have a mentality to outscore people. Our kicking game which is normally perfect and spoiled us, wasn't perfect this year. I sat at Arrowhead a couple years ago at the Division game with delay start due to ice and watched Boz kick all our points. Winning is a fine line.....it can go either way when you are in the arena. It's just the way it goes. People who pay tons of money SHOULD expect more. I expect more from professionals....I am just glad I am a Steeler fan. Better than any other sports organization.....my STL baseball Cardinals are a close 2nd....LOL

Lastly, 2018 season is NOT over. The odds are against us, but we are all winners and we need to support and get these guys to make plays and hope we get something Immaculate to happen in Baltimore. I get pissed on gameday threads. Mostly at the officials. Referees drive me crazy. If we want to blame someone, blame those guys....LMAO

Unfortunately the only thing that brings out the best Ben, is when the team has their back agasint the wall for a 2nd season in a row. When the regular season comes around again , it'll be back to idiot Ben over throwing wide open guys, and throwing into quadruple coverage just to keep Brown happy.

When the expectations are high, you know "The Standard is the Standard" and the team is underachieving, and changes have been made ,maybe it's time to light the fuse and blow the MFer up. Or not. And head into another wouda shoulda coulda kind of a season. Its like having stale bread and microwaving it to soften it up but halfway through you realize it's still stale bread. The message is stale. Unfortunately Tomlin will stay and I wouldn't be surprised if we see NO changes on the coaching staff.

I don't live back there so I don't hear any "Tomlinisms" but, from what I read, they're really no more cliche than anyone else's press conferences. I DO think a change is needed at head coach but, I don't follow football near as much as I used to and don't follow college at all so, I don't know who's available that's any better. And, no to all the Tomlin haters, "anyone would be better" just ain't so!
