There was a lot more reason to like Conner than there is to like Samuels. Conner showed he could be a dominant running back in college. Samuels never even had a 100-yard rushing game in high school or college until last week.

That said, the real issue relate to this thread is Smith-Schuster. The one advantage the Steelers had going into this game was Brown and Smith-Schuster leading a deep and productive group of receivers against a think and shaky secondary. Take Smith-Schuster away and the Steelers better hope the Chargers come through against the Ravens Saturday.

I mean..... having another quality option when the premier option is not playing far exceeds the alternative. For that matter, having now seen and know that Samuels, at the absolute worst, has obtained more experience last game was a win win for Pittsburgh; strength of the opposition's ability to stop the run being irrelevant. If anything, this works to Pittsburgh's benefit when Conner returns.

Now, you can have both Conner and Samuels as receiving options given Samuel's collegiate career. That opens up the playbook even more so for both Ben and Ficthner. That is something we can all agree on yes?

of course on the same note, conner didn't have a 100 yard game as a rookie in the nfl and samuels did. not that i think samuels is a better RB at this stage but he still found the EZ 47 times in college. only 9 more TD's for conner with a lot more touches. a good problem to have.

Conner never got that kind of opportunity as a rookie. He was behind Bell all season.

With Juju`s groin injury, we are in bad shape unless it is a very low grade strain and it does not get worse.

Washington will pick up the slack. He's due for a 150+, 2 TD game.

Add me to the list that thinks Samuels performance wasn't a fluke. Probably better than I expected, but the kid can play running back. Agreed about pass protection being lacking.

It looks like Conner will be a no go on Sunday. So we'll see again. The Saints are a tough unit to run against for anyone running the football.

If he does that, we win.

I think Samuels production in the run game outweighs one missed blocking assignment, which would have been a tough pickup for any RB.
Yes, the team would be much better of if the Conner we saw in the first half of the season can play. The Conner we've seen since his injury in the Panthers game plus coming off 2 missed games, I don't know.

    What's not to love?
Should we hate him because he had the best rushing performance any Steelers RB has had vs the Pats in at least the last 10 years...

JuJu didn't participate today and wasn't allowed to do any interviews.... So, that's not great.

Hopefully they're just being overly cautious and giving him as much rest as possible.

they are getting pieces back while we are losing pieces. Recipe of success on the road vs arguably the best NFL team lol

That is the most glaring example. It's not a one-time thing. Conner very quietly developed into an outstanding pass blocker this season. He is also a better runner. Regarding Samuels as a runner, the Saints are a hell of a lot tougher against the run than the Patriots. Let's hope he can at least give them something there.

exactly. same as samuels in college and conner in college. so it's hard to justify ones college credentials against the others.

The Saints will be at nearly full strength, with Armstead back and Unger OK after last week’s injury. Meanwhile we’re missing Conner and likely JuJu, 2 of our key offensive weapons. Ugh. Everyone else is going to need to step up big-time.

The loss of Conner does hurt no matter what Samuels did last week against the Patriots but the Saints run defense is good and I really don’t think that is the biggest factor.JuJu on the other hand makes a bigger difference as our passing game when running on all cylinders can do well against the Saints pass defense.I hope JuJu’s groin injury is a strain and they kept him out of practice because it happened so late in the week.Just being optimistic as I have no clue of the extent of JuJu’s injury.

I only saw the one blocking miss by Samuels vs. the Pats, but he didn't have many other opportunities with all the empty sets the Steelers offense ran in that game.

Wow!! When you get a touch of optimism it's a big touch.

How great would it be if it happens!
