I have to laugh. Most local media are incredible B&G homers because that is what the local fan base wants. It's only in times like these, when a 3 game losing streak has rubbed nerves raw, that the locals get irritated by the rah-rah-rah they generally embrace. So, now Tunch is a moron and Rocky speaks truth. A few weeks ago, when this was a nationally unappreciated, inadequately respected, SuperBowl contender, anything critical of this team was regarded as the bleating of idiots.

And homer announcers and radio guys are annoying. The greats like Chick Hearn, Vin Scully, etc never homered their teams. When you are a blatant homer and you say things like "oh my gosh, oh my gosh...." after Jerome Bettis fumbles at the goal line, you are not very good at your job.

It’s not just local sports personalities, earlier this week Pat Kirwan was disagreeing with a ticked off Steeler fan about Tomlin - basically called Tomlin a great coach.

I’m more of a supporter of Tomlin than a large percentage of this board, but come on... how can anyone not see that he’s one of the chief architects of this most recent collapse? Can it be fixed in time? Yes. Will I support him if it is fixed? Probably. However, it needs to be fixed this season, right NOW. He owns it. He needs to fix it.

Yeah man I caught the tail end of that, I am a big PK fan but he is dead wrong. As Steeler fans we can only take so much and to watch what happens to this team year in and year out is wrong. I know I just went off in another thread about Tomlin, Butler and the defense but here is another example how Tomlin lost this team. Last season we lose to the Jagoffs and score 42 points what moves do we make......get rid of the OC! Sorry people can say what they want I know Ben and Todd didn't get along but it went on all season where was the coach to sit these guys down and say man we have a goal let's do this? Nope Tomlin let the standard be the standard and yet another distraction on our playoff run. I am not saying that is why we lost my point is how Tomlin is not a leader.

No argument in the horrid defensive breakdowns in the playoff loss last year, but I DO think Haley was holding the offense back. I still remember running Bell wide on 4th and 1 vs. one of the fastest defenses in the league  We didn’t get back into that game because of Haley. It was Ben and his receivers playing playground football - BA style. I like Fichtner better so far.

It as definitely clear Haley had to go. At the same time it was even more clearererrer ;) that Butler should of went with him. I wonder if Tunch thinks we're idiots for thinking that?

I hear ya and I am not saying Haley is better or even Haley shouldn't be gone. My point is how MT did not address the need on defense since that was how we lost. My point being the move we made was offensive, this is where I have a problem with Tomlin, he is a defensive coach!

In Tunch’s case, it may be about the difference between the fans who see everything as Tomlins fault, regardless of what’s happened, and those who are identifying clear weaknesses based on firm evidence. Tunch’s book seems to take issue with those condemning Tomlin without knowing what happens behind the scenes; his tirade here seems to be aimed at similar fans.

Given that the former kind of fan won’t listen anyway, it might have been better to address some of the more detailed issues like clock management instead.

Maybe true, and maybe therein lies the problem. If Noll tried to coach in today’s NFL LIKE HE DID BACK THEN, HE WOULDNT WIN A SUPER BOWL! You can’t just rely on the draft anymore, and being a rah-rah motivator isn’t enough. The NFL IS LIGHT YEARS AWAY FROM WHERE IT WAS IN THE 70s. Adapt, improvise, or fail.

I like the radio guys, but Tunch bleeds black and gold. Wolf seems a little more middle of the road, and more apt to be critical of his former team when need be. For a guy that calls what he sees and is not afraid to be critical of his team, Mike Lange is peerless.
