We at least tried with Fort but any ILB is a mismatch for Allen. That goes to show how ridiculously sub-par our db's and safeties are.

Lining him up in the slot because they know this trash scheme would put a LB on him. Why wouldn't they at least have Hilton follow him in the slot all game!!? Butler is a clown.

Rivers essentially pointed his finger and laughed at our defensive scheme in post-game, so, yeah.

Wait ,you mean we're the only team that covers the other teams WR's with LB's ..Huh,thats why Bosa wasn't on AB ..Who woulda thunk it,using your best cover corner on their best WR ,maybe we should try that

because it shows that they didn't have any confidence in those guys to cover him.

I don't think it shows that at all. If that's what Butler believes, he's completely lost his mind and should be shown the door. Maybe he should be anyway.... For continually not properly accounting for the Chargers' number one weapon.

Tomlin and Butler are both morons. So sick of watching these underprepared defensive coaching strategies. It’s honestly JV level coaching in the NFL

I can't explain it any other way. We have that stupid 'we do what we do' mentality so even though it was evident that we couldn't cover him with a backer, we kept trying it.

Which is that whole point of "Making Adjustments" not just "Absorbing adversity." or whatever Dumlin says.

Tomlin try’s to give these nuggets of philosophy and slick talk to fool everyone about what a garbage coach he is. It’s not fooling me but it is fooling Rooney which is all that matters.

Did you not see Artie Burnt not keep up with a semi-retired overweight TE?

I'm not at all sure that the staff's confidence in the LB's over the DB's to cover a slot receiver is misplaced.

He is one of the top WRs in the game. He played well. We struggled to contain him. Haden actually had great position on the one TD. The dude just made a play on a favorable bounce.

Not Benjamin, who ran right by him on the Chargers first TD.

It was so frustrating watching Keenan Allen catch all those passes, he was running basically the same route, and they still couldn't cover him .

The Chargers ran six plays out of empty. On all six, the Steelers had a CB on the RB, a LB on a WR. Rivers went 5/6 for 69 yards. Keith Butler still hasn't developed a response. #Steelers

More of what I was fuming about in the GDT.

In Butler's defense any adjustment may have been a rearranging of the deck chairs.

According to NextGen stats Keenan Allen was targeted 9 times and caught 7 balls for 70 yds when a LB was the closest defender. Those numbers were 8 targets, 6 completions, and 68 yds when a DB was the closest defender. In short, no real difference.

The problem is probably more about playing a soft zone behind a blitz package more than who was actually covering him, a LB or a DB. If you're going to blitz, you better get there.

Valid points, but I have to imagine, over time, you're much better off having a DB on a receiver than a LB, even if it didn't really show up in the stats from this particular game. Also, one of those completions against a DB was in the end zone when Haden had the interception in his hands and.... Well, we all know what happened. Those stats look a fair bit different if Davis doesn't blow up his teammate.
