Ben says he is the captain and has earned the right to criticize teammates.Leaders do not publicly humiliate and criticize teammates to the media. Especially when he is a turnover machine and leading the league in interceptions. Ben really needs to STFU and play ball. And all this gushing over JuJu when he knows what a crybaby AB is? Does he want AB to shut down on him? I don’t get it

I'm the boss, no ones getting on my ass :lolol:

I don't like the example anyway. Washington is a rookie who has 8 catches on his resume. Ben is a future HOF, 2 time SB winner with 31 4th qtr comebacks. He's the captain and leader of the team, he's allowed to critique the kid. It was about as gentle a critique a person could give, if Washington has a problem with that, he's way too sensitive and maybe they should get him a coloring book and a plate of cookies and let him watch the game from the bench.

I'll trust the future HoF QB to handle his offense the way he sees fit. Ben knows JW better than anyone here; maybe he feels that pointing out the fact he needs to play better in a public forum won't hurt the kid, maybe he felt it would help motivate him. In either case, JW is one of the guys Ben has to depend on in the future. As far as the picks, Ben doesn't need to hear from us that the Steelers offense needs to stop turning the ball over, any idiot knows that. People want to point to how much better our record would be without the picks? How much worse would it be without Ben? Aside from Rodgers, Maholm, Brees or Goff, who do you want? This is much ado about nothing.

    Loving the optimism :smiley1:

And agreed. He'll be fine. Not a repeat of Limas Sweed. Just needs to find his rhythm in this league.

His consistency and production in college was far beyond Limas Sweed's.

Yeah the reality is Ben would not have stated this if he did not think it was going to have positive effects for all parties. People can be quite simple in their thinking, and unfortunately it must be the majority as the media dumb things down to the public for views.

Look for Washington to make some plays. I think the kid just needs to get fired up a bit and pissed a bit to be honest.

I still think Washington's going to break out at some point.

Some of you really are desperate to attack Roethlisberger. The guy is going to the Hall of Fame. He has two Super Bowl rings. More than ever, this is his team. Even with the mistakes, he is absolutely right to speak up.

You're acting as if Washington and Roethlisberger are equals. Within that organization, they aren't. It's not even close.

That's part of the reason Haley is gone, after that happened Haley went up to the booth I think, and they needed a buffer between those two.

Maybe Haley was right. Ben needs to shut the F up. Sick of hearing his BS and drama. Just play ball man and worry about preventing terrible turnovers.

Ben was correct in calling washington out but he should have did it behind closed doors. Ben also threw the dumbest INT i've seen maybe ever from a guy with 14 years in the league

Some of you are really desperate to defend anything Ben does, even when he is clearly in the wrong. Everyone outside Steelers fans is ripping Ben for this. Not sure why anyone would feel the need to defend him on it. I don't think it's a big deal as I think this sort of thing gets blown out of proportion and will have little actual impact on the team but it is still a dick move. And Ben being more important than Washington in no way makes it appropriate for Ben to rip him to the media. In fact, it makes it worse because of the power imbalance. Washington can't even really come back at Ben because of that. It was just a prick move on Ben's part. Again, not the end of the world but to act like it was appropriate or necessary is absurd. Ben could say anything that needs to be said directly to Washington without making this a media story.

When Martavis Bryant ripped into juju on public media when he was here, Ben had this to say:

Finally, Ben addressed Bryant ripping a teammate, adding “We all should be a little upset, you don’t talk about a teammate and do things like that.”

I'm not defending everything he does. I've been criticizing him for his mistakes in the game. I just think the backlash about the fair and gentle nudge he gave Washington is ridiculous. He did not rip Washington. Words have meaning and you used the word rip incorrectly there. I also never said it was necessary, but there is nothing inappropriate about it.

In the future, you should use your words more carefully. It is particularly funny to see you fail to do that as you criticize Roethlisberger what he said.

He criticized a rookie who is struggling to the media. It is a dick move. Use whatever language you want to describe it and it doesn't change that fact. Every media outlet I have heard report this has criticized Ben for doing it. Again I am not sure why anyone would feel the need to defend it. At best it is nothing to worry about but there really isn't a good way to spin this. The franchise QB shouldn't be voicing his critique of a struggling rookie with the media.

I had no idea the backlash Ben would get when I made this post, I'm shocked it turned into this but I shouldn't be.

I'm glad Washington saw it for what it was and understands. He needed a fire lit under his ass and that was a good way to do it. Hopefully he can start making plays moving forward.

That's actually what I've been saying, that it is nothing to worry about. There is nothing wrong with veteran leaders commenting publicly on the play of teammates. This is especially true of a player who constantly points the finger at himself when the Steelers lose.

I thought that was the worst part of what he said. With how AB normally acts for him to try to passive aggressively shade him was bad for our locker room. I assume he didnt take those comments ben said lightly. This is just the story of the team all year. Our locker room is all out of whack.

Nah, the damage was done long before that. Haley stayed on the sideline, this pic is from the following week:
