DHB makes that catch and scores. They drafted Washington to take the top off defenses but I never saw that translating. He's built like a RB and of course it's not. He's even failing at being a possession receiver because he can't make combat catches which he was suppose to be great at. Make him play specials and earn a spot and give DHB his spot. He's still got wheels.

    What do you think?

When did DHB learn to catch?

Far from a guarantee that he hauls that in.

Washington has much more upside than anyone they could replace him with. Keep trotting him out there.

Now if they get Eli back, you could try that route but he does most of his work in the slot. He only had one target all last year on that route Washington ran.

AB and JUJU are our outside receivers with the versatility to play inside as well. Washingtons routes are basically limited to Go patterns and outs. Eli isn't a deep threat but he could run the outs and the versatility and experience he offers can be a advantage. Switzer in the slot. Eli in the slot and JUJU and AB outside. We aren't necessarily searching for a slot receiver or outside receiver. we are looking for a viable 4th receiver that can be counted on and another target to move the chains. I agree DHBs hands are suspect but his speed still needs to be accounted for. He could easily be used to run some deep routes to keep teams honest. Washington will be fine but right now you can't argue that he is hurting us more than helping by not being a reliable target.....

In Oakland not Pittsburgh. We just need him to take the top off the defense anyways that's what they are really missing. No deep threat allowed the Broncos to double Brown and Juju.

They doubled JuJu? Should have tripled him then!

Waaaay too early to call Washington Sweed 2.0, but maybe not his year this year.

What is latest with Eli Rodgers?

You're reaching. I had to go back to 2016 to get a comparable amount of targets. DHB had 22 targets and 7 receptions and 2 drops. Washington has 23 targets, 8 receptions and 1 drop. DHB has top speed, he's nothing special as a receiver or he'd be on the field. The last 2 seasons DHB has barely seen a pass. There's a reason for that.

Incidentally, I don't think Washington's problem is his hands, to me he just doesn't seem to be where he is supposed to be and then he does things like diving when he doesn't have too. He just looks awkward out there.

As a big Washington supporter, he has been disappointing so fat. Not gonna write him off but he has lots of work to do.

Eli will take his spot when ready.

History shows "most" rookie WRs don't have a big impact. They need time.

Paralysis by analysis. I think at this point Washington is struggling so bad that he is over thinking even the things that come completely natural to him. I am not sure what the answer is, but it is time for Washington to sit until he is ready to contribute. Right now he just looks awful. If they are looking for a deep threat, I would take DHB over Hunter or Washington right now. I'm not sure he will do much better, but at least he is a seasoned veteran who will not miss-play a ball. He may not catch it. Lol. But he won't miss-play it.

Personally JuJu and AB are doing just fine on deep routes. Switzer is killing it in the slot. I think Eli is a more complete receiver than Washington, DHB, or Hunter. I would go with Eli as my 4. If you run the ball a little more often, your 4th receiver would be a lot less of a factor.

Defenses don't respect Heyward-Bey because they know he is very rarely going to get the ball and he is more likely that most to drop it when he does get a target. This is his fifth season and he only has more than six receptions once, when he caught 21 in 2015. He has exactly four targets and three receptions since the start of the 2017 season. Think of how bad you have to be at catching the football to get so few opportunities given his speed.

This. If they feel the need to make a change it’s to Eli or Hunter.
    DHB is not the answer.

Eli will be in to add another weapon to our arsenal. Washington has so few targets that its not fair to be so judgmental. I can see his athleticism, I think he is like Juju just fractionally different, a little bigger, he has long strides and lobster claws for hands. I believe he will contribute and make some plays in the next couple of games.

Rookies like Juju (last season) and Bryant (couple seasons before) spoil us Steelers fans into thinking every receiver should step in and become a play maker right outta the box. It's not always the case...

You're making a perfect case to re-sign Bryant. Not only would he have caught it, he'd still be running (away from all his troubles that is). To respond to your point though, DHB must not be showing much in camp and practice other than his ST play.

You can't just look at targets. You have to look at playing time. If a wide receiver is playing that many snaps and not getting the ball, he's probably doing something wrong.

AB has a 58% catch rate maybe he needs to be benched for DHB......wait I thought DHG was being trained at safety?????? Oh did I mention AB is our most targeted WR? People want to get on Washington but AB has almost 100 more targets and Juju has around 80, all you people who want to bench a you talent ever think the timing is off between him and Ben? There is only one ball to go around and you are not going to be on with everyone.

One other thing to look at is how many of them targets are easy catch able balls? IMO AB looks to be having the same problem however he gets so many more targets we don't notice it. Not putting the blame of Ben or taking it off Washington just saying all the talk of benching out #3-4 rookie WR is a little much.

One last thing Ben shut up nobody calls you out on you missed throws:

"He has to make it," Big Ben said Monday during his weekly appearance on 93.7 The Fan, via the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. "I just think he didn't trust his hands. For some reason, he jump/dove. I'm not really sure what he was doing. We look at it (on film), and coach got on him pretty good yesterday. We took a long, hard look at it. James needs to run through that, and it's a touchdown."

"Yes, he's a rookie, but you're not going to be out there if you're not going to make those plays for us," Roethlisberger said, adding "He needs to have confidence in himself,. When you have trust and confidence in yourself, you use your hands and you catch the ball. I felt like when he jumped and dove, whatever you want to call it, it showed a lack of confidence in himself and his hands."

Every word of what Roethlisberger said was accurate. I don't love him going that in depth publicly, but he's right.

Your comparison to Brown is absolutely ridiculous. Brown is still producing despite constant double-teams. Washington isn't beating single coverage and he isn't producing at all. That is simply based on what is happening this season and putting aside Brown's track record, which included being the best receiver in the game the last three or four seasons.
