The OP is ridiculous, but I do think this is one game you can make a strong argument that the Bell holdout cost them a win. It isn't just the turnover, though that was an incredibly sloppy and stupid mistake by Conner. It's that the Steelers don't trust Conner. The Broncos are 27th in the league in run defense. The Steelers were deeply concerned about their ability to pass protect with a third-string right tackle starting. One big way to slow that pass rush would be to pound away with the running game. The Steelers tried that on one drive, then gave up on it. They were never down more than seven. There was no reason to give up on the run, yet Conner only carried the ball 11 times today.

Conner has made huge mistakes in consecutive games. It isn't just the fumbles. He dropped two big passes last week.

To be clear, there is plenty of blame to go around. Roethlisberger screwed up badly on both interceptions and when he overthrew Smith-Schuster early in the third quarter. Grimble gave away a touchdown with his fumble. Washington gave away a big play by diving and dropping a pass rather than running through the ball. The list of mistakes goes on and on. It's amazing how many they jammed into one game.

All that said, Conner seems to be wearing down and the team just doesn't trust him.

I remember a RB who turned the ball over in a MUCH worse situation. He's in the HOF now!

Among the people I am worried about on offense, James Conner is at the bottom of my list of concerns.

Now, for today, Randy Fitchner's play calling? Much of it was well but I do question the lack of a rushing attack. That in itself is what concerns me at the moment.

We can play this game all night. You can easily see the games are getting too big for JC. LB is laughing his way to the bank

Perhaps that comes down to not trusting Conner. They certainly don't trust him the way they did Bell. That was evident today.

Basically, Conner is a rookie. He was incredibly limited last year hardly getting any touches.

So, I look at it like he is rookie. For the most part he is still learning. Believe me, fumbling is a RB's death warrant. This latest fumble oddly was not caused by contact but by him simply losing the ball trying to leap a defensive player. Freakish play. Not quite sure why he lost the ball there, but it was not due to contact.

If he gets better, and I think he will, he will learn from these last couple of weeks and play a little smarter. He had the yardage after the catch today and should have just taken it out of bounds or not went air borne. He will learn.

Personally, it is not fair to compare a seasoned vet in Bell with a guy who is only in his second year and really only his first with any real playing time.

More flak should be thrown in Ben's direction IMO because he is a seasoned vet and he should know better for some of these INT's. 5 in the last 2 weeks? Should we bench him too since INT's are a death wish to QB's?

Conner may never be the player Bell was/is but the fact remains that Bell is no longer around. Conner has done a pretty good job so far this year and it would not be a stretch to see him go to the pro bowl.

I don’t know about that if they didn’t trust JC then why give him the ball on the goalie with the game on the line?

I don't agree. To me, it looks like he's hurt and is making mental mistakes because of it.

the problem is not JC,yhough our showing a lack of confidence can become one,He was playing good considering hi lack of touches, The problem is way too many passes when a run would do just as good and bye the way do we have more fumbles or interception?Getting real when seemed to be hurt and Josh Dobbs looked ready to take over was the first time I thought we would win!Ben cares aboit Ben and his own stats dispite what he says or he wouldnot keep passing and passing on days when he can not hit or see wide open recievers, hesure has enough time! I like Ben for his toughness but I like the Steelers more.

We don't start any game with urgency. Like we want the 2 seed. We need a chip on our shoulder. Turnovers will happen, but if you lose the turnover margin in the NFL, you will lose the game.
I want to physically see a team come out and show some signs of being pissed off and determined. I know it's college ball, but Ohio State had it's share of drama and bad play for a talented group. They came out and played with passion to prove a point not only to Michigan, but the whole country.
I wish the Steelers would come out and make a statement to the NFL.

They were on the three. It made sense to mix in at least one run. But they have been far too quick to get pass-happy and it continues to cost them. After the one drive that ended in Roethlisberger's interception, they gave up on the run. That wouldn't have happened with Bell.

I agree. Thats a bit of a leap to conclude they don't have confidence in JC. Bell had 6 games last season with 15 or fewer rushing attempts.

As usual, the Steelers outthink themselves and don't attack a teams weakness. Another game that jumps out at me that they did that was against Jax last year in the first game, tried to attack them through the air when their secondary was tops in the league and a porous run defense.

Considering they have a new OC and still doing that, I put that game planning on Tomlin. Seems like that would fit his philosophy, not live in your fears, win by attrition. Would be just like him to attack a teams strength.
