After the Steelers early season struggles, they are now the #1 ranked offense in the redzone :steelflag:. Haley was a good OC, but his shortcoming was the offense in the redzone Fichtner has improved on that.

Timing is everything as we relied on Boswell last year to bail us out when we had trouble in the red zone.Putting it in the end zone is a good thing this year as Boswell couldn’t hit the side of a barn and of course 6 is always better than 3!

They seemed real stiff and predictable in the red zone with Haley's play calling. Fichtner uses the "the whole bench", and is creative. When that fails, he's not above bringing in the heavy package and using brute force. Plus, he gets along with Ben like BA did, and that helps everyone to play looser.

I was just saying this in another thread, much better red zone efficiency and spreading the ball around.

Yesterday they had 6 different players score a TD, plus Vinces score.

Thats how you keep a defense off balance and from keying on 1 or 2 guys.

He's doing a great job not only with his play calling but his play design as well. Using the players you would least expect is really helping to move the ball and the chains.

Not only the red zone has improved it seems to me. I used to watch us attempt 3 and short with my hands over my eyes, peering through my fingers.

I now watch us move the chains in a relaxed frame of mind with my hands free to top up my G&T.

I was just thinking the same thing. Ben seems to have a monkey off his back with Haley gone. Fitch uses the kitchen sink and it has reaped benefits. They go as far as this Offense will take them and when they are on it will be hard to defeat them. It's scary good...

Having faith in your team. Haley was too predictable. I like this Fichner

I wonder how much of that is due to the OC though. We've seen Ben in past years lock on to AB no matter what the coverage was. This year he's not doing that. Typically an OC just provides options, the QB is the one that decides where to go. Ben is playing smarter this year. Part of that I think is that AB is starting to slow down. He's still an elite WR of course, but the signs of aging are just starting to appear, so perhaps Ben is considering Oru options as a result .

We also have a healthy Vance McDonald and Juju is better than last year . Plus having Switzer doesn't hurt.

Overall the offence is a hell of a lot better, but I think there's many reasons for that. The OC might be a big reason, but I'm guessing it's everything combined and that we'd be just as good with Haley.

    I could be wrong though.

I never did like the vast amount of draws and bubble screens under hailey.

I like how this guy is targeting down the field first. Why not? He's less predictable on offense and he's playing to Ben's strengths.

    Giving him an A+

Of course he has the players on offense. The offense is stacked at the moment.

I liked Haley but Fichtner has been great. Let's not forget how good we have been on 3rd down as well that has been big time.

This, like some of us said last year. Haley all year overused Bell and didn't use his other star players like he should of. Hence we had lower scoring games and not as predictable and more efficient in the overall offense including the red zone.

Plus Ben doesn't have to worry about Fichtner telling him to shut the F up like Haley did :roflmao:.

I'm not saying Conner is better than Bell but...Short yardage, Big Boy package...Honking it at ya...We have been lining up, and just pounfing it in...A back who hesitates and dances around in the backfield, is not conducive for short yardage imo...That is Bells 1 weakness...Short yardage, He ****s around in the backfield, dancing, looking for a seam...While Conner takes it, going full speed and powering it in...

That is football 101 from midget football, all the way up...But this is one area where Bells " unique " running style is not the best option...jmo

Randy does what works. 3rd and 2? Haley long bomb and randy does a quick slant for 3.

3rd and inches? Haley does a draw and randy does a qb sneak.

How each get the offense involved:

Haley: bell and brown all day even when double covered.

Randy: Conner, brown, juju, Vance, James, switz, nix, the guy across the street, Lynn swan, woody harrelson and buzz light year.

And in those 3 yards we're looking for AB..

AB might not be getting the stats that he has been in previous years, but he is invaluable for just this reason. We know AB is great. We don't need 150 catches to confirm it.

I see some new plays added instead of the same old predictable stuff.

    Having Big Mac helps too.
