Yeah, but I think it will be the 3 rd tag and that’s around 25 million. And the transition tag only gives you the opportunity to match and no draft pick compensation.
Who knows what is correct though.
@Clive From PIT has posted some good info on the subject so he may have a better handle on it.

The mistake they made was not cutting him loose after the second suspension.

It cost little to keep him then.

Plus, he promised to be good ;)

He was a great back for us. Keeping him was the right move.

You don’t dispose of assets with a net value. You get what you can even if you have to wait.

Santonio Holmes didn't get that luxury I guess.

I felt they should have moved on from Bell then (I was surprised they didn't), and in retrospect, I was right. They would have been further ahead today, and that can't be argued (although I'm sure it will).

I understand your thought on Santonio. Tried dusting off a gray cell, and I believe the deal breaker had something to do with Santonio lying to Mr Rooney?

I don't remember that part (not saying it didn't happen).
Either way, I think they handled the situation properly. He screwed up (twice, I believe) so I was glad to see him go. They gave L Blount a second chance, but when he acted up again, he was gone the next day.

Yes, if this latest is true its been a terrible job by these sports journos. Even worse is that Bell signing actually hurts him this season because that lowers his tag for next year.

Again, if all true, I see no reason why Bell won't sit out the whole season. He is in Pittsburgh though, so who knows whats going on.

Um because moss didnt want to be there again and was causing problems in their locker room. But I brought up several other players besides moss so idk why you continue to key on him. And um teams go into seasons with rookie RBS every year. Hell some even go in with rookie QBs and throwing them into the fire from day 1. That's not grounds to why they did it. They did it because leveon is a special talent that they wanted to keep around and they didnt think he would pull the moves he did. I saw something like this coming after the season he had last yr. I thought though he was going to wait till after the trade deadline so the steelers couldn't try to trade him.

They released him because he was done. Over the hill. Put a fork in him. Which is illustrated by the 26 catch season he had with sf. The same one you called solid. You keep throwing names out there to illustrate a point, but none of them do so. The claims you’re making are demonstrably false. You’re like the trump of wannabe football analysts.

What some other team does with a rookie rb or qb has no bearing on the Steelers. The Steelers do what is best for the Steelers. As it should be.

People have but most ignored the facts. I've been saying it on here for many weeks now that Bell will be due about $25 million if he is tagged again. There's been a couple analysts that have stated this over the course of the season, but most of the media outlets haven't touched on it one way or the other.

Still say rescind it, Let him walk...Yes you'll have to cross your fingers for this yearAND lose a comp pick but...Have a lot of cap room...Sign a better cheap type backup RB ( Hyde, Ekeler, Crowell, Dion Lewis Type ) back...Keep drafting D...AND could probably still add a goood defensive player or 2, yhru free agency...With the money saved...Again the downside is we basically get nothing this year, besides more cap room for next year

That's stupid because he might not even show up which is looking like best case scenario.

What does salary this year have to do with cap space next year? Rescinding the tag now has nothing to do with next year.

But, If he doesn't show up...Isn't that basically the same...Because they are not tagging him AGAIN

It would be around 20 million. If he no shows they get the 15 mill back this year so it's basically 5 mill to try to get some 1st or 2nd round picks in this years draft. People fail to realize they aren't tagging him to pay him and have him come play. They are only doing it to try to work out a trade and get something in return for him.

Yes, for this year. Has nothing to do with next years cap numbers. The time to sign an impactful free agent is gone. There is no one out there, so the money saved by not paying Bell won't help us whatsoever.

It's not basically $5 million. Every penny they have to pay him next season counts against our cap for next season. You can't subtract what we didn't pay him this year from that number.

The cap gets raised every year and they already have it worked out this year with him making 15 mill. It wouldn't take much work to clear a couple mill if needed.
