More two TE sets? I don't know?

As long as they are willing to use Nix in short yard and goal line, and they are, I'm okay.

The fullback position has been obscure since Kreider left.

Nix comes in on goal line and short yardage. Also seen them use two tight end sets as well too.
    I've seen Nix.

If your looking for the old power I with the QB under center, this is not not 80's-90's football. You won't see it.

Almost every level of football high school, college, and NFL 80% of formations are run out of shotgun now days.

If all he does is play STs and knock the snot out of Burfict then he's justified his position IMO.

They had been using him more this season, but they mostly stayed with three wide and a tight end against the Ravens, so the drop in Nix's playing time became more obvious. I've seen one report that it was done to keep Roethlisberger in shotgun because it was easier on his broken finger. I also read that it was an adjustment based on the first meeting with the Ravens. Either way, I suspect we will see more of the heavy packages with Nix in there on occasion, but it will depend on the opponent.

If they really are going to go with a lot more no-huddle against the Panthers, I'm guessing that means Thursday won't bring a return of much playing time for Nix. I do wonder if he might help neutralize Carolina's strength at linebacker, but maybe spreading them out will accomplish something similar.

seems to make the most sense as you said about the opponent. i just thought we may see him more in the passing game as well. at least put some film out there for defenses to think about. the heavy TE use does make sense the last couple of games. i just wonder about down the road. will samuels take over this limited role? nix is a stud on specials. just something i have been thinking about lately. i like nix and i do think he will continue his role, but for now it's not looking like it is going to expand.

Nix and Samuels bring different skill sets. Nix is a strong lead blocker, but he really doesn't offer much as a runner or receiver. Samuels has some ability to run and he showed he can be a playmaker in the passing game in college, but he hasn't demonstrated much ability as a blocker.

Conner has been doing fine without a FB so far.

Apparently winning really does cure all ills. Win 4 straight and the biggest complaint is we aren’t using a fullback enough.

There will always be something to complain about for done. I’m waiting for “ they are going to run the wheels off of Conner”.

Just a day or two ago Conner said something to the effect that he was built for a heavy workload.

according to PFR, Nix has been in on about 1/8 of the offensive snaps.

After the special teams fiasco against the browns.... should we really want more Nix?

Because that play is indicative of his abilities as a fullback?

You are mixing special teams with his FB abilities?

That is a bit of a stretch, if you look at the film from the Bengals game. They ran the play where they pulled Foster and Pounce and Nix filled the gap between AV and Pouncey. Nix has been part of that successful series of plays where Conner has had big gains through big holes.

Power football will still work, It would open up the play action OL has to be on their game
as they have. There are a lot of players that don't want to tackle a 233 lb running back running mad.

Not really a stretch. Outside of the first Cleveland game and the Cincy game you mentioned he's barely seen any snaps. Several of James big games he's been on the field 10 or less snaps. I'm sure he's helpful when he's in there but JC's overall success hasn't been dependent on Nix.

first off, nobody is complaining about nix's playing or not. it is something to discuss.

second we have also used nix some but also used an offensive tackle as an extra blocker and multiple TE sets, so it's not like we have sent conner out there with just the o-line blocking . my thoughts on the matter is more along the lines of discussing if nix and the FB role will continue to be needed beyond this season. no we haven't used samuels as a traditional FB but he did play the H-back role in college some. also the use of these other "BIG" formations and it was something for discussion. nix is a very good ST's player for us.

The fullback is becoming a dying breed in the nfl.
