At this point, I think rescinding the tag would send the message that Conner is performing just as well, and that Bell’s performance for the remainder of the season isn’t worth the cost. I’m not sure people will see it as a reward.

    The comp pick, though...yeah.

I know there are comparisons of Bell 2017 vs Conner 2018 first 8 games. But lets see him stacked vs bell 2016 and 2014 first 8 games. (2015 was injured)

    2016 Bell first 8 games
    699 yards/437 receiving yards
    3 rushing tds/ 1 receiving td

2014 Bell first 8 games (elite season)
    691 yards/ 395 receiving
1 rushing td 1 receiving td

    2018 Conner first 8 games
    706 rushing/ 379 receiving
    9 rushing td's 1 receiving td

Conner is putting up better numbers than Bell has ever put up in the first 8 games of any of his Steeler seasons, with way more TD's. he blocks well too.

Like I have said before. Bell gambled and lost big time. I am sure he hates life right now, and probably due to embarrassment he will not show up.

    2016 Bell first 8 games
    699 yards/437 receiving yards — 1136 scrimmage yards
    3 rushing tds/ 1 receiving td

2014 Bell first 8 games (elite season)
    691 yards/ 395 receiving — 1086 scrimmage yards
1 rushing td 1 receiving td

    2018 Conner first 8 games
    706 rushing/ 379 receiving — 1085 scrimmage yards
    9 rushing td's 1 receiving td

Less divergent, but even comparable numbers are great news.

I am just thinking both backs are great, but are products of the O line... like most backs.

    Except Sanders. lol

As far as I'm concerned you can never have enough weapons especially headed into a stretch that has you top 5 most difficult schedule in the league. He should back up Conner which I'm sure he wont mind as he will be getting paid plus likely preserving his health by playing less possessions by doing so. I dont think he personally would become a distraction although the media will try and make him into one. As long as the Steelers limit his media exposure it should be business as usual. I guess I'm just a all hands on deck guy rather than someone who allows emotions and butt hurt feelings to skew their better judgment.

You wouldn't want to rescind a tag so that a division contender or another SB hopeful could scoop him up. I'm not sure if I totally understand the fandom vile to begin with. What I definitely dont understand is the lack of thought that's going into these comments when they think it's ok to rescind a tag on a talent like Bell. At the most just sit him on the bench, but dont put him out there for somebody else to scoop him up. The lack of wisdom floors me.

I’m 29, so not quite one of the “oldies” yet... although I’d probably be considered an “oldie” to a 15 year old.

They should have a meeting and pitt should just rescind the tag. Time for both to move on. Pitt loss and he loss. Nether party wants to admit they were wrong.

He really only has two options.....don't report at all and fall back on what you have put on tape and hope teams are willing to invest in that....

Or report and try and play the best football of your career and show your suitors what you can provide.
Coming back in shape and competing against guys who have already played half a season and are beat up could be used to his advantage.

Right from the start something wasn't right, Bell tells teammates he will be back after Labor Day and don't show. Then all the secret stuff on when he is coming back, my thoughts from the beginning was the whole reason Bell turned down 70 mil from the Steelers was cause the guaranteed money was so low. Well why would he care about guaranteed money if he wasn't worried about a drug suspension? Yeah I know you can say injury but I don't believe he was worried about injury. I also think that he was partying it up and wasn't worried about a drug test since he didn't have a contract and when it came time for him to sign his agent told him once he signs he will be subject to the NFL drug test. jmo

The team wasn’t wrong. They offered a guy with multiple drug suspensions and injuries a great contract and he crapped on it. The only loser in this is bell.

They lost by franchise tagging a guy and holding hostage 14 million against their cap that could have went elsewhere instead it went to a guy who wasnt playing. Why carry this on when last offseason they got the sense of what money bell wanted. Should have just rescinded the tagged when he denies this years offer.

The Steelers get his weekly check as a credit towards the cap and a compensatory draft pick. Steelers win.

We’ve seen a couple pics of him. One at a strip club and one on a jet ski. With as high profile as this situation is the paparazzi would have got some juicy pics if he was partying it up.
The drug test theory doesn’t add up. How long does pot stay in your system like 30 days? Unless he’s just an addict that doesn’t seem likely.
