Seeing the "great" Blake Bortles getting benched in the 3rd period today just makes last years beating in the Burgh a little harder to take.

    Enjoy London Blake.

No it doesn't. Last season was a different season than this season. Bortels played well last season. He didn't make many mistakes to hurt the team. The Jags also appear to be hurting without Fournette.

The Jags game all of a sudden while it still will be a tough game it doesn’t look nearly as tough as it was a few weeks back. The Jags are definitely not as good as they are projected out to be.

They can stay sucky till week 11 then we'll make Bortles look like Montana. You know how we roll.

Bortles is so streaky. He can go on a run where he plays like an NFL Qb. Then he does this. Jags were the better team in that game. To be honest Jags were the better team in the AFCCC.

Fournette ran us over. Can't discount what he adds to that football team.

Fournette has played 1 game, Bortles can't carry the load.

On that day, Bortles was playing in Dr. Jekyll mode.

Jacksonville was a good team last year, they were a few plays away from beating New England in the AFCCG.

Even Trent Dilfer won a SB...…. Bortles had his "Dilfer" moment last year

Bortles is being exposed for the mediocre qb he is at best without Fournette in the lineup.Yates and the rushing game they have right now doesn’t scare anyone.

Let's be real. They only let him really throw when they were in plus yardage situations in that Playoff game.

They got up by turnovers and mistakes in coverage and they were lucky to hold on based on dumb playcalling.

They had one long drive so...

Fournette. He seems to make that team so much better. Steelers never stopped him either game last year. A good running game always make a below average QB better.

Tells you how good Charlie Batch was. He took a Lions team to the playoffs once without Barry Sanders.

we will never beat patriots in the playoffs with brady/bellichick at the helm and with tomlin as our coach.

    I will guarantee that lol.

now, someone else knocking them out and us winning the SB is entirely different and can happen

None of this surprises me. We have all seen flash in the pan teams that catch fire one year and fizzle out the next. Jax is garbage at every skill position on offense right now. Fournette gave them a legit run game that they could build their offense around. Without him they just don't have much.

The 2018 Jacksonville Jaguars cannot be compared to the 2017 Jacksonville Jaguars for a myriad of reasons. Three big ones come to mind for me. The most notable aspect as to why these two iterations cannot be compared can be traced towards three main points of emphasis here.

The first is injuries on the offensive side of the ball. Injuries are now starting to catch up. A third string tackle, a fullback playing tight end and Leonard Fournette's ongoing hamstring issue; Carlos Hyde supposedly being the stopgap option. While it is true that using injuries is an insufficient excuse to placate blame on the losses, teams can only overcome so much over a given period of time.

The second has to do with the defense. 90 points in three games? That is unacceptable in itself. Much of the same defense from last season has returned. Some might blame the defensive woes on the lack of man coverage. Others might state due to Blake Bortles (more on him in a bit). I have a different reason within this section and it will show up soon. Getting back on the subject of the lack of man coverage at hand, against the likes of Houston though, that did not seem to make much of a difference. Nevermind that vaunted pass defense, the issues with there run defense has surfaced far worse now than it did last season; 375+ rushing yards allowed in the past three contests. The issue is not so much the personnel or even the coverage schemes. Much of the dysfunction, as I see it, has to do with their ring leader in Jalen Ramsey. Calling every Quarterback in the league either "trash" or "good because 'insert Wide Receiver Here' with reasons" is more than enough "bulletin board material" for the opposition; offseason or otherwise. Add the fact that he has yet to record a takeaway and has given up three touchdowns in the past three contests (zero to Kansas City but two to Cole Beasley and one to DeAndre Hopkins) and one now sees a far more transparent picture; if one is to talk the talk, they better walk the walk. He has not done that all season.

The third reason; biggest one no less, is Blake Bortles. Those who stated that he lit up the Steelers last season are likely the same ones who stated Jacksonville is the best team in the NFL after beating New England down; the absolute dichotomy and atipodean stance of one of the NFL's oldest written rules.

"Each game is different. Each season is different. The only thing that is the same is updating your resume."

For Blake Bortles, post the New England game, he has played poorly; Cody Kessler being the guy to attempt to bring life into the Jaguars. Even if we assume Blake Bortles does have a bit of the hot hand for the remainder of this season, he has proven on far too many occasions that he will likely cost his team by turning the ball over. No other Quarterback has done that more since 2014 than Blake Bortles. Add the fact that Tom Coughlin did not even bring in someone like Teddy Bridgewater or someone else to challenge Blake even further and instead sign him for three years and $18 million guaranteed and the writing is on the wall; this 2018 Jaguars team will live and die by Blake. However, considering that they benched him in favor of someone else, team morale is either on life support or shot all together.

In conclusion? Regardless if the defense gets better in time, regardless if Leonard Fournette comes back, regardless if Jalen Ramsey balls out in the second half of the season, heck, regardless if Blake Bortles goes on a tear a la Patrick Mahomes, none of that is a factor. So long as Blake Bortles is the guy, Jacksonville will only go so far this season than they did last season.

good writeup AQL. I agree with the whole "nfl is a week by week" statement. Like if Team A beats Team B soundly, and Team B has beaten team C soundly, Team A is not guaranteed to beat team C.
