Probably a good move. I wouldn't get rid of him for less given the current circumstance.

I'm a bit surprised that Bell would sign before the trade deadline. He probably figures there would be no takers if he does.

He knows the offense and knows his best success for a big year statistically is here in Pittsburgh. Of course James Conner's success could throw a wrinkle in his plan as he will get less carries/opportunity to show he still has it to be paid like a #1 RB and #2 WR.

It'll be interesting to see how this all plays out.

Well, the Steelers aren't going to get a first round pick for an out of shape rental player, with an attitude, who's had prior substance abuse suspensions. Good for them if they do.

But if I'm Phillys GM after I get done laughing in Kevin Colber face, I call Buffalo and see if they'll part with MCoy for a 3rd Rounder.

I would need a more reputable source than 24/7sports  to believe this.

Trade him for a back up punter. The one we have is very inconsistent. 35,42,28,65,39...

Maybe if they get someone to bite they could use that first rounder and there other first rounder on a hybrid player of Jarvis Jones and bud Dupree

Exactly what I've been telling this forum. That's why a 1st for Peterson is nothing. It's a wash.

The problem with that theory is that nobody is giving up a first-round pick for Bell.

I don't believe that report either. Don't see why they wouldn't give up a 2nd for him, its more than they'd get as a comp.

A lot of dumb/desperate teams. He comes back and tears it up in the 2nd half of the season.

I’m sure he also expected him to sign a 5 year, $70 million dollar deal, and to show up before, the first game of the season, and to not get suspended for drugs, and not make insane demands for money. But none of those worked out for him. Maybe he will learn one day not to trust an idiot player.

He is not signed...If he comes back week 10...Couple more weeks to get in shape...couple weeks after that to be playing well...

So...A 1st rounder for basically TWO weeks...Ya right!

What happened to the talk that Bell was coming back after the bye week?? I hate the guy but no one can deny he carried the team in some games last season and if he can come back and kick ass like that I'll overlook a lot.

I want to win so I can overlook a lot of things. Heck, if Ben retires and we get Brady at age 42 I'd even pretend I like him.

He has to report or he won't be a FA next season. And I'd think he would have the inside track on where trade talks are.

I agree Bell is making idiotic choices though.

Teams were calling the Steelers. We have no idea what has or hasn't been offered.

Did the Steelers confirm any interest or offers?
Despite any offers, no trade yet. Unless you think there's one in the works.

They aren't going to franchise him again. If they put a transition tag on him, teams can just outbid the Steelers if they are that desperate. You really need to let this idea go. The only realistic chance of a trade is during this season and that seems extremely unlikely at this point.

He needs to sign his tender before he can be traded. At this point, he is just trying to stick it to the Steelers. His lack of contact should tell everyone all they need to know. He will sign after the trade deadline. If he shows up week 10, I would tag him again next year and challenge the CBA on what is owed to him.

There is nothing to challenge. By the rules, tagging him would be significantly more expensive next year than it is this year. They can't just slap this year's number on him again, though clearly that would be fair.

Do you know offhand how much it would cost to use the non-exclusive tag on Bell next year?

I think he’d be horrifically expensive.

Section 2(b): Any Club that designates a player as a Franchise Player for the third time shall, on the date the third such designation is made, be deemed to have tendered the player a one-year NFL Player Contract for the greater of: (A) the average of the five largest Prior Year Salaries for players at the position (within the categories set forth in Section 7(a) below) with the highest such average; (B) 120% of the average of the five largest Prior Year Salaries for players at the position (within the categories set forth in Section 7(a) below) at which the player participated in the most plays during the prior League Year; or (C) 144% of his Prior Year Salary. (By way of example, a kicker designated as a Franchise Player for the third time in the 2014 League Year would have a Required Tender equal to the greater of: (i) the average of the five largest 2013 Salaries for quarterbacks; (ii) 120% of the average of the five largest 2013 Salaries for kickers; or (iii) 144% of the player’s own 2013 Salary.) If the Club designates the player as a Franchise Player for the third time, the designating Club shall be the only Club with which the player may negotiate or sign a Player Contract. In lieu of designating such a player as a Franchise Player for the third time, any Club may designate such player as a Transition Player pursuant to Section 3 below.

Section 15(c): If any Franchise Player does not play in the NFL in a League Year, his Prior Team shall have the right to designate such player as a Franchise Player or a Transition Player the following League Year, if such designation is otherwise available to the Team, except that the applicable Tender must be made and any 120% Tender shall be measured from the Player’s Prior Year Salary. If such a player is redesignated as a Fran- chise Player for the League Year following the League Year in which he does not play, the player may be designated only under Section 2(a)(i) above, except that Draft Choice Compensation of only one first round draft selection and one third round draft selection shall be made with respect to such player in the event he signs with the New Club. If such a player is designated as a Franchise Player for a third time, the terms of Section 2(b) above shall apply.

The Steelers can apply the Non-Exclusive or Transition tag. But absent that, he would become a free agent after this season, whether he plays this year or not.
