Bell had almost as many rushing yds as Ben had passing yds.

Laborers on a construction site put their bodies through way more than a superintendent or engineer. Who should be paid more?

Bell was offered 10 million signing bonus. Gurley was offered 20 million. Estimating Bell's arrival at week 11 this year, he would have forfeited approximately 9 million dollars voluntarily.

Both were offered 45 million in "rolling guarantees".

Bell was offered a 70 Million 5 year contract.

Gurley accepted a 60 Million 4 year contract.

    Gurley's contract wasn't all guaranteed.

"By back-loading Gurley’s contract (over $42mm of the $71.5mm is payable in years 3 thru 6) and not guaranteeing anything but the signing bonus, the Rams have built a back door into the deal. At any point after 2019 if they decide to part ways with Gurley, they can cut him before the first day of the next league year and owe him nothing. "
    https://steelcityblitz.com/details-of-the-todd-gurley-contract/

So the idea that Bell is getting the shaft continues to be a joke. Yes despite what all the "experts" say on TV getting paid to rouse feathers and make a story. The Steelers offered him by far the best running back contract at the time, Bell refused. The Steelers acted within their right to apply the Franchise Tag, a tag that Bell both agreed to and has been the beneficiary from as it is used to set the market for top players at their position. Bell not only has not signed it, he's been playing cat and mouse not communicating anything to anyone.

Bell wants special privileges assigned for himself (wants only so many carries guaranteed, gets paid as a running back and a number two wide receiver, etc). Stuff that Gurley didn't even get. Things that players like Marshall Faulk didn't get. That's fine. It doesn't mean that the Steelers should bow to his lofty fantastical demands.

It also doesn't mean that he's going to get the contract that he envisions in his mind in free agency.

He's had one healthy season in his NFL career. He has a history of suspensions, and now has shown a lack of regard for his team and teammates. He'll be 27. Gurley's 23. His average per carry and TDs are less than Gurley's last year.

The Steelers were wise not to overpay him. Gauranteed this guy is out of the league in three years, and some team will be sitting there in cap hell from the mistake they made signing him. I'm not even sure he makes it that long. He seems more interested in rapping than football.

The Steelers offered him a good salary, good work envirnment, potential to win championships, hall of fame inductee, he could have made a boat load of money off of advertisements with the 3 Bs concept.

Instead he's going to go to a team where like many ex Steelers, will fade into oblivion. I give him 3 more years tops in this league, declining in production each season.

I responded to what you wrote. I thought you got a 93 in English? It doesn’t seem to be your strong point.

Lot of contradictions. Firdt off you said he only had one healthy season. So did Gurley and Gurley also has only had one great year. Gurley isnt the standard. Plus even if you take away the 40 million and go with just the signing bonus his SIGNING BONUS was higher than the guranteed money leveon was getting. Todd gurley's signing bonus was more ths what ab got guaranteed. The problem is Pittsburgh period doesn't gurantee high money to anyone. Ab only got 19 MILLION guranteed. His overall contract makes him the highest paid but he is not if he doesnt see or live out the entirety of that contract. The overall contract for leveon was fair if he was to live out its entirety but he didnt. And pitt this year was going to use him up and kick him to the curb kinda like Dallas did DeMarco Murray that one year and he was never the same. And leveon also is doing what's well within his rights. You cant argue the organization is ok in trying to use a guy up for a year because he obviously wont be back and then kick him to the curb vs him saying I'm looking out for myself and what I think is in the best interest of myself. I've never seen a team continuously franchise a guy they know they will move on from. Even the Redskins cut bait with the kirk cousins situation. If you all cant agree just move on and leveon obviously wants to but he cant so he's doing everything he can to move on.

Correct but the qualifications or skills to he a larbroer isnt the same as an engineer or superintendent. You have to have credentials and certain levels of education for those two particular jobs. They get illegal Mexicans all the time who barely speak English to do larbor work but they couldnt do that for those other 2 jobs you mentioned. It's about supply and demand.

Yet when a guy here uses sarcasm they act like I'm wrong for responding directly to what they said instead of using common sense, context clues, and making inferences. Which one is it?

Also another point you did address was Gurley is 23.. maybe if bell was 23 he wouldnt think like that as he'd have a chance to earn another big pay day. He cant at his age so therefore he has to maximize the most he can right now in the shortest life span position in all off football.

We use green for sarcasm. I do it a lot. Being a German engineer I tend to be accurate and precise in both questions and answers.

Bell has 2 strikes against him, very few comparisons to other players make sense.

Then let him go. Why continue to keep and let this bad situation carry on. My whole point is rescind the tag and move on..

Bell would not have signed the contract offered to Gurley.

& AB is the best wr in football. A threat to take over the game & win it on his will alone. OBJ? A few spectacular catches, that's about it.

You took the debate into so many different directions I forgot what your point was.
The front office already made the mistake of tagging him a 2nd time, they have to get something for him to keep from looking like complete dummies. At least they're finally open to trade options at this point, which should have been the case in February.

Slow learner here...I know the Steelers aren’t paying Bell each week that he doesn’t report, but it also left us 14.4m from being a better team as we have had to set that money aside-assuming we were going to be using it on Bell.

Maybe this is just an obvious fact to most of you on this board-not me or am I off on the way I am seeing this now?

Bell has never taken over a game? You really don't know what you are talking about. You're just another fan who has become so bitter over this situation that you can't even acknowledge how good
Bell has been during his time as a Steeler.

They didnt see this coming is what happened. They didnt think he'd holdout and go the lengths he did. I also didn't see this coming and thought he'd do what he did last yr but I would have let him go in the offseason. Not worth it with this drama hanging over the franchise.

Lose Ben Roethlisberger for an extended period of time and the Steelers are sunk. Lose Le'veon Bell and they still average 27 ppg on offense (1.5 more than last year).

You're probably right. I thought Bell made it pretty clear that he wasn't interested in playing under the tag again when he stated that he would retire if that was the choice, then he showed up late for the AFCCG walkthrough and game (reportedly). The front office took the gamble he'd be there by the first game, but I'm not sure what the backup plan was if he didn't. Make him available for trade offers after week 2 I guess.

Dont say never because he did once, On December 11, 2016, against the Buffalo Bills, Bell broke the Pittsburgh Steelers' franchise record for rushing yards in a game with 236 rushing yards on a career-high 38 carries while scoring three touchdowns.

I disagree. They did see this potentially happening which is why they drafted James Conner last year.

Bell made it known he didn't want to play on the tag another. The Steelers made it known he'd get franchise tagged again if they failed to meet a long-term agreement for a contract, and now here we are.

Both sides are doing what is in their right to do.

The Steelers didn't think Bell would be willing to forfeit 855,000 dollars or so a game, but they were not without a plan to go without him as we see now with James Conner.

Also picking up Jaylen Samuels this year is an additional move to prepare for life without Le'veon Bell.

They weren't caught with their pants down.
