Kinda off topic, but Love how when Rappaport reports on something Steelers fans don’t like he’s a hack, but if it’s something we want then the guy is the man.

If Bell walks after the season, the Steelers will likely get a 3rd round compensation pick. Any serious negotiations will start there.

As much as I'd like to think we're going to get a high pick or a good defensive player, the realistic scenario is a few teams offer 5th or 6th round picks. Why would they give up a high pick for the risk of Bell getting hurt or walking away after the season?

Bell is an exceptional talent and, in different circumstances, would be worth a lot more. Unfortunately, this is a rare scenario where letting a star player walk may have the best outcome.

Where did I say he's the man? I'm not a fan and he certainly has his share of reporting incorrect information but I doubt this is one of those times. I'd be surprised if teams DIDN'T inquire after learning the Steelers are open to trading Bell.

Adam helped answer my final questions.

    So in conclusion

    1) we wouldn't be required to get two first round picks for Bell because he's on the EXCLUSIVE Franchise tag. The 2 first picks requirement is for the NONexclusive franchise tag. We could trade for whatever they wanted, including players.

    2) The receiving team would be in the exact same position as the Steelers are, except now with missed games the tag is at like 11 million of required cap space.

After the season ends, the receiving team could attempt to negotiate with Bell for a long-term deal. If that fails, he could be franchised AGAIN by them for a "3rd consecutive year" for the 22mil estimated for him.

If the team does not either come to an agreement with a long-term deal or choose to franchise tag him, he would enter free agency.

So the receiving team would NOT be in a position to be held hostage by Bell (assuming they don't give up 2 first round picks to trade for him mortgaging their future) to give him what he wants for essentially a 1 year rental player.

They would have primary dibs though on signing him to a long-term deal giving them potentially more control over getting him than having Le'veon sign with another team.

With all this said, Bell still has to sign the tag in order for the Steelers to BE ABLE to trade him prior to the week 8 deadline.

Considering the Steelers got a 3rd round pick for Martavis Bryant, it seems like it'd be a steal if a team were to acquire him for the 3rd round pick Adam suggests could happen.

I don't see why the Steelers would trade him for only a 3rd rounder if that's what they would be getting with the compensatory pick after the year.

Bell honestly can’t be this stupid.

The most logical outcome of all of this is him trying to sit the year out.

At that point, the Steelers should just tag him again at $14.5 million and trade him then. Get whatever they can get from teams that are desperate for an RB.

The smartest thing he could do is sign his tender week 10 and play out the year to hit free agency. But it’s looking highly likely that he is not coming back at all now. Which I am happy about.

The Steelers are not going to let him walk for only a 3rd round comp pick. Especially if they can tag him again at $14.5 mill. If he comes back for those 6 games, then it’s gets really tricky what happens in the offseason.

People forget that we have a ton of cap coming off of the books next year. Shazier will be off, Dupree is going to get released (no way they keep him at his 5th year option) and Foster will be gone. Not sure who is due to be paid but that’s a ton of money right there. Although I know Shazier isn’t on the books to begin with and that should be factored in.

But if Bell tries to sit out all year, I have no doubt the Steelers will just tag him again and get a lot more in return than a 3rd round comp.

Imo only way the Steelers take less than a 1st is if they turn this ship around, get into playoff contention, and they don't want him around the locker room Week 10 and beyond. Ideal scenario is he sits out the whole year and we deal him in the offseason.

Any chance we make a trade. Then remove the franchise tag so Bell can sign a long term contract with the team we are trading with? Of course there would have to be a deal in place for Bell and said trading partner.

How fast do things accelerate if he shows up at the stadium tonight buys a ticket and hangs around the production booth until the espn crew puts him on air and he starts running his mouth.

Not really sure this is plausible. What is stopping Bell from saying yes to that and then once the franchise tag is rescinded saying no to the deal and going somewhere else.

What I am trying to say is, I don’t see a possible scenario of both teams being able to agree to that and actually holding Bell to it legally.

But if it were possibly, it could be the only way to get Bell his money and get a good package in return.

Not possible. The time period to sign players long term has passed. Whoever trades for him can tag him next year if he doesn't sign long term with them.

This is wrong in the scenario he is talking about. If the Steelers rescind his franchise tag, he instantly becomes a free agent and can seek whatever deal he wants to make.

He is saying that maybe the Steelers can get a team to agree to a deal with Bell, send whatever they want in compensation. Then they would rescind the contract, Bell could sign with that team for whatever they offered. Because he would be a free agent.

Like I said, I’m not sure that any of it would work though. Since rescinding the tag would automatically make him a free agent. He would have no legal responsibility to accept whatever the Steelers and another team made in a deal. He could just go on his merry way.

This could all work with a sit down with Bell. Tell him he’s not getting off of the tag this year. Unless something like this happened and he agreed to it. Find out where he wants to go and who he wants to play for. Contact that team and tell them to put a deal together. Get him to agree to deal and whatever compensation that team is giving and then rescind the tag.

There are so many moving parts to a trade like that though.

It's really not clear what needs to take place for Bell to be traded. Kaboly says here that there is no guarantee he would show up for whatever team that trades for him. That would indicate that he can be traded without signing his tag.

I think it is pretty clear at this point that egos need to be put aside and all parties, including Bell, need to partake in this. If that’s what truly is wanted by everyone that Bell needs to be traded.

The Jets have an extra 3rd round pick because of the Bridgewater trade.I’d take it to get rid of the cancer sooner than later!

Don't think I have seen this idea floated. What about a trade with Seattle? Bell for Earl Thomas?

Both players disgruntled with current team. Change of scenery, fresh start, everyones happy.

Seattle needs a RB in a major way and Steelers need a player of Earls abilities in the secondary in a major way.

My only problem is they are both "me" players.

I’m not interested in Thomas, Bc3 he was just interviewed and stated something about if he was hurting even a lil bit he would not practice...perhaps to ensure that he can be traded without injury and sign a contract. Are we willing to invest another contract on a 30 yr old player? Who has had injuries. He’s currently 29.

I didn't think he was that old. Dallas is trying to acquire him and an article referred to him as being in his prime. I guess they feel 30 years old is prime.

I like the 3rd round pick plus a player idea at the end. A half way decent DB if we could get it.

The Jets have called and inquired. So again would you consider trading a draft pick and a player off the Jets?
