I guess I should have asked this earlier, (does this mean that some teams have inquired about trading for bell) Or are the Steelers just fishing for offer's ??

I haven't followed the whole thread but IMO(capitalized because some people can't handle different opinions around here):smiley1:. Unless we are offered at least a 3rd or better it wouldn't be worth trading him. I mean the situation is so screwed up already that we have to almost wait and hope that he actually comes back relatively soon and is going to audition his ass off. If we are trying to win this year then we may have to take that chance. What happens if Conner gets hurt? We are screwed at RB...
I think we get at least a 3rd when he leaves after the season anyway,No? It's a tough call because of the locker room drama he caused as well. So that adds another factor. If they can somehow patch up the rift that he caused it might not be the worst thing to just ride it out at this point....

Yeah right like Carolina wants to pay Bell 15 million a year or more.

Question.... what would happen if bell waits to the very last second to come in to sign the tender... gets off the plane, Uber’s to the front office, and mysteriously our offices are closed for the day...

What’s to stop us from dragging our feet to sign the papers and be dictated to on his time schedule... lol. He’d screw himself and Karmas a....

If it’s a loop hole, just for the sake of argument...there’d be no point for him to play, and he would not accrue credit for this year... next year, try to apply a different tag and trade

the NFL might declare him a free agent immediately if the front office did something like this.

Oh my bad. I ran out of green ink and you missed the hidden wink. Of course no one would make such a deal. We can dream can't we?

Oh, so the Steelers are open to trading Bell but they don't realize they can't. Got it.

So lucky we have you to explain this to everyone.

It's been declared a Federal Disaster Area - there will be tons of funny money being passed around - $15 mill will be chump change! ;)

They are open as in before they didn't listen to offers from anyone. Of course they can DISCUSS TRADES with teams and bring them to bell but ntohing can be completed until he signs the tag.

This is simply not true. The Steelers can trade the rights to Bell to another team. Dosent matter if he signs the tag or not. It's not a one year rental either. Whomever the Steelers trade him to can franchise Bell next year and it would be a first year tag.

I know about sign and trades but that article I linked specifically mentions they own his rights, why point that out if not to indicate they can trade that away?

I’m not following this line of reasoning.

Bell’s 2017 season contract expired. Pittsburgh made Bell a one-year, fully-guaranteed contract offer for 2018 (the exclusive franchise tag tender). It’s sitting, unsigned and unaccepted, on Bell’s kitchen table. He is not under contract and not on the team.

The CBA (not the Steelers) prohibits Bell from ignoring that tender and signing with another team this season.

What “rights” are you saying the Steelers front office has?

Because that is the best way to refer to the situation as he currently is not on any NFL roster but is not a free agent.

Can you excerpt the relevant part of that article? It’s behind a pay wall, so I can’t read it.

I read somewhere if he signs week ten the team can still claim he is off the team (or something like that) for 2 more games. So he wouldn't get paid for 12 weeks.

That being said teams like the packers with 2 first rounders would probably like a one year rental for a really good chance at a Super Bowl. I would sell all out for a shot at the title.

No it is true. They cannot trade him until he signs the tender. He as of right now is not undef contract so therefore they cannot trade him.. the only way for them to get under bell right now is to rescind the tag which of course they wont do as this is a stare down contest and the steelers more than anything are trying to protect the franchise history and respect.

He has the accept the tender by the Tuesday following the 10th game of the season. The Steelers can apply to the league for a roster exemption of 1-2 weeks (their choice).

Dunno whether the league would approve it or not. If they did, Pittsburgh could exempt him for one or two weeks—meaning he’d lose those game checks AND he’d not accrue the year toward veteran status (which he already has).

Strategically, Steelers would exempt him to buy two weeks to work him into shape before they’d need to make a roster move.

That makes it sound like they can trade him and the new team would then take over his rights and the tag on him.

It's a bit misleading if not true.

Then it’s a bit misleading. :this!:

I think what they intend to say is the tag controls Bell’s ability (right) to play elsewhere.

Interesting. I don't care how they do it, they are looking to trade him and I hope they are able to find a team that wants him.

AB84 isn't in contract negotiations, Im not comparing that part. I'm just saying the timing of the whole thing leads to speculation. AB acts up and creates a distraction, Bell and his negotiations have been a distraction for a couple weeks now. All of the sudden the FO comes out saying we are now openly shopping Bell. Coincidence in a fractured locker room?

I don't know, but if Im the FO, I'm seizing the opportunity to tighten the reigns and choke out the I before team atmosphere which is threatening this team.

Every action by the FO cannot be taken in a vacuum, there are reverberations imo.
