Let's say the boys rebound and go 13-2-1 or 12-3-1 and tie with the whomever in the win column, but lost the head to head.

That tie is not a loss so does that give them the edge?

I was more making the point that that does that tie make the win loss percentage better for the same amount of wins? meaning the head to head loss would mean nothing in that case. I'm no math guy.

I sure hope it never resorts to the last option in each tie breaker scenarios - the Steelers have never figured out how to call a coin toss. "......aaaaa.......headtails"

10-6 should win or tie for the division. I think 11-5 we win it outright.

If the Steelers finish with 12 or more wins I'll walk naked to the Burgh. It would be 400 miles of people getting disgusted.

I believe you question is basically, suppose the Steelers go 9-6-1 and are 'tied' in the win column with a 9-7 Cincy. Who wins the tiebreaker? The answer is there is no tiebreaker. The 9-6-1 record is better than 9-7 on a winning % basis. A tie is a half win-half loss.

Yeah so even if Head-to-Head is a loss, it doesn't get to that because of win percentage. Got it

I'm worried about winning one game and OP has them running the table. I love your enthusiasm.

there wont be any tie-breakers because of the tie. The only team we can tie right now is the Browns. we could get swept by a division team and it wouldnt matter if the other team doesnt have a tie

Yup, unless Cincy or Balt pick up a tie of their own OR should the Steelers pick up a second one, there won't be tie between Pit against Cin or Bal,. But if the Steeler pick up a 2nd tie and finish 8-6-2, they'd tie a 9-7 Cincy team.

Nine wins would beat out eight wins, no tie.

Let's win a game first before worrying about tie breakers.

It ain't wins, it's winning pct. 8-6-2 is the same win % as 9-7. So tie it is.

    Or if you prefer 8 wins + 2 half-wins = 9 wins.

This is precisely why I hate tiebreakers. They screw up playoff seeding in the worst way.

To say that the Monday Night game is pivotal is quite the understatement.

Not sure how TBs 'screw up playoff seeding in the worst way', care to offer an example?

TBs are a bit over officicious, but since your not gonna have a week of games to break divisional ties, they are necessary. They are logical, they weigh head/head, division and conf record appropriately. They deal with 3-way and 4-way tie possibilities and basically ensure they every conceivable scenario is covered, before you get to the dreaded coin-toss. And everybody knows the rules in advance. You can argue you'd prefer a different set of TBs, but that more a issue of personal preference.

    Absolutely.

With a tie, winning this division becomes even more of a necessity. Unless something extremely unusual happens by that time, I highly doubt that wildwild card teams are going to have ties in their records.

It certainly should be that way if it is not. Two ties should not be worth a win, which is why the current NHL system is extra silly. Two losses can actually equal a win. Ugh.

Wait a minute? Are you arguing that 'Ties screw up playoff seeding in the worst way' or that 'tiebreakers screw up playoff seeding in the worst way'? You got me confused.

For Tiebreakers, you can hate um if you want but they're necessary as I argued before.
As far as ties go, if you think a tie is gonna hurt you, then win the damn game. If it hurts your playoff seeding, boo-hoo.

Just read what I typed. My mistake. :hi:

I do hate ties. As you said though, win the game. Then again, the defense overall is not good enough to do that it seems.

The Steelers, at 0-1-1, are listed on NFL.com as having a 0.250 winning percentage.
