Probably not, but he's proven himself to get results with backup QBs. Cassel went 10-5 in '08 when Brady was out. Garrapolo, Brissett, etc. I would bet money Belichick would still have a winning record (without Brady) and better playoff record than Tomlin.

Tomlin went 3-1 and almost 4-0 with Dennis Dixon and Charlie Batch. When Ben was suspended.

That 10-5 Season made Matt Cassel so rich by the way. LOL That team actually for the Pats went 11-5, and they missed the playoffs, one of only two teams to miss the playoffs at 11-5.

Yeah, but that was the peak of his performance as a head coach. It's been steady downhill since then.

Also, if the Jaguars keep winning and make the playoffs this year (they probably will)... add Marrone to the list. Also, if the Jets start making some noise with Darnold... add Bowles to the list.

Ok if we can see that and everyone else outside the organization, why can't the owners?

Did anyone notice that Cowherd never once called out Tomlin by name? Tomlin is a media creation (including local Pittsburgh media, BTW). The sports media built this guy up as some kind of player guru and they've ignored the fact that since day one of his tenure, the Steelers began a downward spiral. Yes, we get 8+ wins a season, but they do it in the ugliest way possible. They've never been dominant. He took our greatest strength (And supposedly his as well), our defense, and turned into a joke. Sure we got a ton of sacks last year while also getting torched. That's the dysfunction Cowherd is talking about. If the dang media, especially in Pittsburgh, would do their jobs instead of cheerlead for Tomlin, something might get done. Personally I think Cowherd is one of the biggest jerks in sports media, but that doesn't mean he's wrong.

It's the media? lol what exactly is the media doing? This isn't politics it's football. You're judged by wins and losses. We are in a situation like the Eagles were for many years under Reid. We win games but can't win big games. Tomlin does enough to keep his job. Don't forget our ownership craves longevity and consistency. changing coaches every time they screw it up turns you into the Browns. That said , I agree Tomlin should have been fired 2 years ago IMO. We won't win in the playoffs with him as our HC.

Blaming the media though is out there. lol sound like that orange clown we have in DC. I've never heard the media sell Tomlin as if he's a genius coach ever. They havn't killed him either because he's won enough to keep that from happening. I think last season you started to hear more criticism and he's on the hot seat now. Just look at week 1. Last I checked the media doesn't own or operate the steelers.

I'm not blaming the media for why the team is what it is, I blame them for how they cover it. For the record, I used to be a newspaper reporter so I do not hate them. When I lived in Pittsburgh and listened to the sports radio station on my way to work, I would hear callers call in and criticize Tomlin and say he should be fired and the hosts would always treat those callers like idiots. They'd always say that he'd get another job in a heartbeat and ask who we'd replace him with like there was no other worthy candidate out there anywhere. Bob Pompiani was especially guilty of that. That's arrogant and ignores the fact that every fired coach gets another job almost immediately as long as their firing was due to poor records. They built this guy up and now they wont do their jobs and call him for what he is. They do the same thing with Brady and Belliceck. No matter how many times those guys get caught cheating, the sports media will not change their narrative.

We fans don't have as much of a voice as the media does. If the local media would start really pointing out Tomlin's flaws and asking the tough questions then maybe the ownership would start paying attention. I agree that they love their continuity and for that matter so do I, but that continuity right now is just good, but not good enough. Is ownership really willing to put their love of continuity above their love of winning championships? Also, I completely agree about Andy Reid. He's another guy that gets praised too much.

Again, I am not blaming the media for why we are so inconsistent. But I do partly blame them for why Tomlin seems untouchable.
