Let’s ask Harrison and Bell about that...

Is that a strength or a weakness?

It’s a strength if you have players who can act like grown men and have the discipline to take care of business. But when you have a team of childish knuckle heads then look out, you’ve got trouble. It’s obvious which team the Steelers are now days.

    Obviously. :roflmao:

I’m not playing the “coaches know more than we do, so we must defer to them” card. But...it’s a balancing act between having the team talent and the team discipline to win (with the plan the coaches develop and implement).

Tomlin and company have each been playing/coaching for decades, they’re intimately involved in the plays, and they watch and evaluate every player every day. Those guys must know how and why a player makes a mistake.

The coaching staff has to be able to see when player behavior negatively affects team performance. They’ll tolerate it if the positives of the miscreant outweigh the overall negative impact. (With some corrective measures occurring behind the scenes, I’d hope.) I like to think that’s what we’re seeing with Tomlin and the Steelers.

6 turn overs, 12 penalties looks pretty messy to me, obviously no attention to detail or discipline on this team......

What Bell is doing has absolutely nothing to do with Tomlin but I think you probably know that.

100% correct. Tomlin is an above average coach, however, he's too much of a players coach, lets the team walk all over him. 0 control. Ever since most of the Cowher era players retired (Polamalu, Farrior, Foote, Ike Taylor, Ward, Townsend, Ryan Clark, Heath Miller, etc.) the teams have gotten progressively worse attitude wise. This team may have more talent, but definitely not as team-first and as smart as those guys. But Tomlin will be coaching the Steelers until he retires, because its the Steelers way, and there Rooney Rule.

Looking at the span of years involved, how much can we attribute to the rising pervasiveness of social media in daily life?

I'm gonna have to disagree with you here. Tomlin is an average coach that happens to have a HOF QB to cover up his mishaps and shortcomings. Get back with me if Dobbs or Rudolph end up franchise caliber and deliver #7 with Tomlin as HC. Then I may update my ranking of Tomlin.

Social media does have a lot to do with it. these players, especially young players with no common sense. plus, look what Facebook live did to us two years ago. I still think it all starts with Tomlin, though.

Off the top of my head I can think of 6... Belichick, McCarthy, Payton, McVay, Pederson, Carroll

Not a big Carroll guy, dude has been caught cheating at every level. I really really like McVay, imagine what he could do with our weapons on offense. Also like Payton, but he's mad much, much worse years than Tomlin record wise.

I haven't seen anyone walk all over Tomlin. Where did that transpire?

The teams' attitude has gotten worse? Maybe a handful of players had/have attitude issues. To suggest the TEAM has attitude issues is simply not accurate statement Way to let a handful of apples ruin your opinion of the majority of the bunch.

Some of you folks forgot what happened in the past.

Rooney rule doesn't help you keep your job, it just gets you a interview.

I am not trying to start a trash Tomlin conversation but I can think of one guy on our staff that I would take over MT in a heartbeat.......Munch. So many here talk about the "steeler way" when talking about the Bell deal well imo Munch has that "old school" attitude. jmo

I like Munch also, but his previous head coach record isn't great.

Harbaugh...Ya I said it...Guy is a Dick, But he always seems to do more with less than us...But, Maybe our team isn't quite as good as they appear to be on " paper "

Yeah I agree but how much was talent and how much was coaching? I would like to see what he could do with a good team and great ownership, but I fear we will never know......

Not defending Tomlin, but would Belicheck be regarded as one of the best all time, if he never had Brady?
