Well yeah, if he thinks he needs to. I have never heard a hint of anything suggesting that Ben wants or thinks he needs more preseason time. Maybe I missed it though.

Lets dissect those turnovers. I'm curious how a rookie or Dobbs would have done when:

    A. Was getting hit with a tomahawk chop to the arm while throwing.
    B. gets a bad snap onto the ground with 2 guys charging down on him.
    C. Best WR in football is running the wrong route
    D. Jessie James plays volley ball with a perfectly good pass.

Also can't wait to see one of those guys make some of the good throws Ben made today. It wasn't just Ben that was bad. The entire offense was out of sync and sloppy as can be.

Did I say they would? No! The Steelers know Ben is over the hill. Why else not extend him? Which he will be waiting for a very long time. The Steelers Ben demise is this year. Next year no Ben!

It was three interceptions and two fumbles. Ben made mostly bad throws today.
    https://steelersdepot.com/2018/09/road-ben-rears-its-ugly-head-vs-browns/
It’s the Pittsburgh Steelers’ worst kept secret. At home, Ben Roethlisberger looks like a Hall of Famer. But on the road? He looks like…Tyrod Taylor minus the legs.

    http://www.post-gazette.com/sports/...hlisberger-antonio-brown/stories/201809090193
Goats: Roethlisberger was dreadful. He threw one interception into triple coverage. Another was a wounded duck to Antonio Brown that looked like a miscommunication. A third was tipped and ruined a promising drive. And that was just the first half. He added a fumble in the fourth quarter that gave the Browns a golden opportunity to tie the game, then looked lost in the two-minute drill after they did. He capped it off with an interception that was really more of a fumble late in the overtime session.

    https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2018/09/09/ben-roethlisberger-throws-red-zone-interception/
But from the 18-yard line, Roethlisberger made an ill-advised decision. He threw into triple coverage, trying to hit Antonio Brown. First-round pick Denzel Ward intercepted it at the 10.

I was thinking the same thing. Been a while since I screamed at my TV for Ben to throw the ball as often as I did today.

What is the most bothersome for me is the fact that this has now become some sort of pattern. Last year he craps out against Jacksonville with 5 picks. Then comes the playoffs and he does the same thing. Yes, he did bring them back but they really never should have been in that situation/

Now, some 9 months later, he again turns the ball over, 5 times. This is a problem not just a one game relapse.

Maybe, just maybe his time is up. Maybe, just maybe this is the year when all these young guns start to play well. We had some young QB's play well today and look what is happening in Green Bay tonight. It may well be the year of the young QB's.

Apart from that, it is groundhog day again as the Steelers once again play down to the level of their opponent. Tomlin as the HC is surely to blame for this and it will eventually haunt him throughout his coaching career. I've never seen anything like this over the years where a team that is supposed to be one of the best constantly plays down to their competition.

BTW, Brady throws 4 TD's to a cast of nobody's with the exception of Gronk. It is going to be a really long year.

I also find it incredibly fleeting of the fact that just last year the Steelers offense was being feared with the killer B's and now it looks like KC has the offense that looks incredibly dangerous while the Steelers offense has faded in just one short year.

Yes Ben was horrible but Tomlin needs to stop cuddling him and make his butt play more during the preseason. Just like someone else said and I've been saying for years, Ben needs reps during the preseason. He threw 5 passes since January with live action. Or whenever our last game was against Jacksonville during the playoffs. I know he might get hurt but don't live in your fears you need to be ready for the start of the season, not just going through the subpar play until Ben gets going. We start every year slow and lethargic on offense. If this game was anyone other than the Browns, we would of been blown out the stadium.

Brady looks sharp because he threw more than 5 passes during the preseason. Ben needs work during those exhibition games.

Well, that is the understatement of the year. I am not a fan of not playing in preseason and then somehow turning the switch on and everything is fine. This though goes deeper. Brady is older, can't move at ALL, has no WR's or RB's and STILL manages to throw 4 TD's against a pretty good defense. It is not even close. I don't think Brady has EVER thrown 5 int's in a game and Ben has done it more than once and now has almost done it twice in his last two games. Yes, he plays in a cupcake division but no one has seemed to figure him out so that has to tell you something.

Everyone thought Ben was done after the Jax game last year. He only went on to play lights out after that game.

He's barely played any football since last season before todays game. He'll be fine.

15 years in, is a couple dozen more pass plays in the preseason really going to make a difference....

How many games do we have to fall back in the standings before he'll be fine? Also, putting all this on it being a early game is nonsense. This team plays down to crap opponents no matter where we are in the season. No more excuses. No teams do what we do in playing so inconsistently depending on the skill of the opponent. I also do not think this is just road Ben as the Steeler Depot report said. That 5 int game against Jacksonville was at home. No matter how good Ben plays, and at times he is still great, he's become more trouble than he's worth. I will always appreciate Ben's career and the wins and titles he brought us, but he's not that guy anymore. We may see him for a game or two, but not enough to warrant the 3 to 5 years more he wants to play. It is time to make the tough call. It is time to turn to the future and get whoever that turns out to be ready. We've wasted too many seasons of Brown and Bell's career (although I don't care about Bell anymore). We're getting younger on defense and we've got good young WRs and apparently a good young RB. Let's get our next QB in there so they can start to get good together. I would accept a season where we don't make the playoffs in order to get better. A lot of people will say that we're consistently a playoff contender and be happy with that. What we're doing is standing still. We're not getting any better and we're not legit title contenders.

You're concluding this after the first game with record rainfall in PA? Add to this the guy barely played in preseason.

I think everyone can relax a bit. Jumping the gun here a bit.

Bens struggles when he hasn't been played in a while is well documented, nothing nonsense about it.

Bit premature writing him off after one game. Pretty sure the Steelers will base any contract extensions on his body of work for the season, not one game.

I'm the biggest Dobbs fan here, advocating replacing Ben with him or Mason at this juncture is what is truly nonsense.

    People are funny.

Ben has the 9th best overall career passer rating at 94 in his 15 years of playing football
    https://www.pro-football-reference.com/leaders/pass_rating_career.htm

He's also 9th with career TOUCHDOWNS at around 330.

He is 8th all time in passing yards with over 51,000 yards.

So we have a guy that is 15 years of being consistent demonstrating he's one of the best EVER to play the position, and people get all irrational jumping to conclusions over the first game of the year which

    1) was the first game of the year

    2) was terrible throwing conditions

    3) Had limited time playing in preseason and with his #1 WR AB due to injury

    4) not sure but I'm sure there's a fourth

    5) << for some reason you always need "five" things.

    He'll be FINE!

    Can I get an AMEN!

    :amen:

I just looked at Ben's stats as he's been pretty consistent. Maybe it really is all down to the preseason. Tomlin has to man up and tell Ben that if he wants to plays 3 to 5 more years then he's playing preseason. We can't afford to waste early season games waiting for him to get the rust out.

People also need to quit blaming today's debacle on the weather. Bad weather didn't make him throw into triple coverage or hold on to the ball too long or try and make a play out of nothing when taking a sack was the right decision. It was not playing in the preseason.

I'm about 99% sure that it was management telling Ben not to play. Not the other way around. As for the poor decision to throw into triple coverage, yeah I get that. Lack of reps. As for holding onto the ball too long, THIS HAS ALWAYS BEEN AN ISSUE WITH BEN.

But yet he still manages the games won, stats, etc..

People just need to RELAX. It was a bad game. You will see a different Ben in the weeks ahead. No need to panic.

I seriously wonder where these comments come from. Minds like this run the Browns organization.

All the debbie downers on Ben Roethlisberger. Can't remember (or many too young) to remember the days of Neil O'Donnel, Mike Tomzack, Kordell Steward, Tommy Maddox, dare I say Bubby Brister.

    Basically anyone since Terry Bradshaw!

They've all sucked. Ben came in and all the sudden holy s**t we have a quarterback that can actually come back and win a game!

People forget way too quick. People can live in their fantasies "if we just put Dobbs or Rudolph in" everything will be hunkidori (<believe it or not I spelled it right the first time confirmed by google check)...

Ben has now 15 years of consistently being one of the top QBs in the league. Every QB has their bad games. Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Joe Montana, etc etc..

Brady's an alien from outerspace. I'm convinced. 6th round draft choice that looks like my dad running the combine. Comes in and lights it up consistently for decades. Super nice, cool guy with a hot ass wife. Kicks our ass every time we play him, so naturally we all hate him.

Everyone hates the dude because he keeps winning, but yet he still kicks ass. Meet the guy in person and you want to hate him, but he's too damn humble, nice, and cool you can't. Takes a paycut for the good of the team, although no one doubts he should be the highest paid QB in the league.

Think it's time we all just categorize him as an anomaly.

After one game in very sloppy weather I wouldn’t put Ben in the obituary yet.Not even close! Ben does have to get the ball out of hands a lot quicker though and not throw into triple coverage.
