I understand both ends of the spectrum. The Steelers need to do what they feel is in their best interest. Bell needs to do what he feels is in his best interest.

I still don't understand how any can hate on Bell for attempting to get as much money as he possibly can. This is his best shot to maximize his earning potential.

I doubt the Steelers were concerned about Bell's previous suspension. They wouldn't had offered Bell an extension if they were concerned. Bell would also be gone from the team if that was the case.

If the Steelers weren't concerned about his previous suspension they probably would have met his demands. I think it weighs heavy.

I have always wondered what more do you get if you sign for few mill more, and please don't answer with "a few mill more". Any contract these guys sign is going to set them up for life if they have any life skills at all, I mean they are all university grads.

Does he need 25,000 sq ft home or can he be a minimalist and settle for a sensible home something around 15,000 sq ft. Maybe he has to get by with 1 Ferrari and only 2 blinged out Escalades to run to the grocery store.

I am sick of the argument that they have a short career, that only matters to the poor slob who gets hurt and only has one or two years of a career. I mean really Bell has already made and I am just guessing but close to 16 mill so far.

I disagree. Why offer him a contract if that was a concern? They traded Holmes and Bryant who they had similar concerns.

People are trashing Bell because he wants to make more money. I can't blame him for that and neither should anyone else. Especially considering all the money that's being throw around to players.

This is Bell's last chance to earn a big pay day. It's better to get as much money now as he can get now. Who knows what the outcome of the next CBA will be in 2 or 3 seasons. Players may not be playing if there is a lock out or strike.

I don’t have any problem with someone trying to maximize his income. Or even set up shop at the outer edge of what’s reasonable—that’s part of negotiating.

But I (and others) think that, given all relevant facts, the terms Bell is demanding are unreasonable.

What did Bell want? I believe Bell wanted more money up front. Based on what's been happening around the league I believe he will get more up front money than the Steelers offered. How is that unreasonable?

I am not going to hate him or the organization over the business side of the sport. Both sides have valid positions. Anyone who can't see both sides of the equation just isn't being realistic about the business side of the sport. Players need to make as much money as they can because football organizations will discard players before their contracts expire.

To me...the 3rd round comp is not worth the 7mill he would still make this year....Which is why I said cut him before he earns the money.

But its obvious to the Steelers that a 3rd round pick is worth around 14 mill. =)

IF and its a big if, the 10 million guarantee is an accurate number, thats a clear sign the Steelers are taking into consideration his prior suspensions. The rest of the 70 million contract means nothing. If he gets suspended, they don't owe him any of it but they aren't going to give him 45 million guarantee when he's one puff away from a year suspension. The offer of 10 million seems to reflect that.

Bell will make a little over 26 mil in just two years / guaranteed. With his next contract j\he'll be approaching the 70 million mark (conservatively)

That's not enough to get a bigger house?

From what I understand Bell is still in stage 2 of the NFL drug program. That means that if he has another offence then it would be a 4 game suspension and not a year suspension. He probably remained in stage 2 because he missed several tests. I don't believe he ever test positive for any substance a 2nd time.

Again, I doubt the Steelers would attempt to resign Bell if they thought he would be an issue down the road. I wouldn't offer a player 10 million dollars if I thought he would be an issue. I doubt the Steelers would either.

Where did you find the info regarding Bell and stage 2? I read thru some of the policy this summer and couldn't make much sense of it and couldn't find anything about specific players.

Ah, that could be. I do remember something about him appealing, maybe thats why he remains at a 4 game suspension. I thought he was looking at a year now.

What an A-HOLE!!!! He's trying to get the Steelers to rescind the tag. Heres what I would do. When week 10 rolls around and LeVeon comes back, make him inactive for the rest of the year. THEN TAG HIS ARSE AGAIN NEXT YEAR!!! This time tag him with the right to negotiate with other teams. Then when LeVeon cuts a deal the Steelers will end up with a pair of first rounders in return. if he wants to drag this thing out so can the Steelers.

He's probably not reporting until week 10. Which at that point, if Conner is still tearing it up like he did Sunday, plant Bell on the bench and make him run sprints every practice until he vomits. I don't care what his game check is, bench him, its only 6 games. Don't give him a singe rep, let him go into FA with a year of rust. Some fool team may still pay him but I sure wouldn't give him what he wants after a year away from football.

I certainly wouldn't ruin team chemistry to play him. Screw this guy.

Steelers aren't paying his asking price. Plain and simple. Get your ass in here, Do it for your brothers on the team if nothing else. Earl Thomas did it for Seattle. Most players do. I don't think his asking price is totally unreasonable given LeVeon's skills and amount of touches per game, which is by far and away the highest in the league. His value per play is worthy of being paid higher than the highest RB and his point about being paid as a WR and RB has some merit. But there are plenty of RB's in today's offenses that get a lot of catches. Melvin Gordon had 9 catches yesterday. Alvin Kamura, David Johnson, Todd Gurley, and Kareem Hunt all come to mind. So it's a dangerous precedent to start the whole RB/WR combo pay scale...

Leaven Bell is extremely misguided in this approach and I have a hunch he's getting some terrible advice on this from his agent and other advisors. He has shot himself in the foot to a point where it will be hard to recover. Not just the last 7 games of 2018, but the offers and contact he signs. He's come off as very selfish, greedy, and dishonest. When DeCastro and others spoke out, I knew there was something behind the scenes we didn't know about because players NEVER ever do that to their teammates on this stuff. Turns out he did tell them all he'd be there for Week 1. He lied to at least a couple teammates. That's going to stay with him.

He's walking away from crazy money every game he sits out. Money he will never get back. He is assuming a number of teams will pay his asking price. Maybe they will, but I really doubt it at this point. He's going to be perceived as a cancer and questionable teammate. That, combined with his somewhat shady past, will scare off teams from committing too much. I think he's going to be surprised come free agency. Teams don't pay you that kind of money just because you're productive. They want to know they are investing in a good teammate, team player, and a guy that stays out of trouble. LeVeon, in perception at least, is none of those things.

All that being said, this Franchise Tag thing is a stupid rule that makes no sense to me whatsoever.

I gotta wonder what would happen if by Week 10 Conner is continuing to kill it every week and has posted similar numbers to Bell's past numbers- what happens? What kind of welcome does he get back? Does he even start? How do the fans greet him? It could be awkward and ugly...

That’s the tag they should have given him this year. This mess could have been over and done by now. But I would love to see the Steelers screw him next year. That would be AWESOME.
