Just seems like a damn shame, that we are losing a truly great talent, because he is just being too greedy...

Football is a TEAM sport. It takes all eleven guys on both sides of the ball, to make a good team...

We proved that in the 70`s...

I hate to see Bell go, because he could have helped us a LOT, if we kept him...

But, just like with every other job/team, NO one is irreplaceable..

We will move on and be fine, because we are the PITTSBURGH STEELERS...
Bell WILL get paid by some other team, that will just set the market even higher, than it should be,
    for a runningback...
And the contracts will keep getting higher, and higher, league-wide... no stopping that...

I just hope we can get some quality future draft picks for him, or free up money to sign someone else,
who can help the team, wherever we need it.

I`m not sure when Ben`s contract currentley expires, but he has to be feeling a bit disrespected/ jealous,
when he sees what top-tier(or not) Quarterbacks are getting nowadays, compared to his current deal...

I`m glad we finally got rid of Landry Jones. He was dead weight, IMHO, and MAYBE Dobbs or Rudolf can help us win games whenever Ben is gone...

Like I always say, I hate the money side of this "business"...
I know it is a "business", but to blue collar guys like me, it is still about the game...

I am realistic/cynical enough, to know it`s all about the money, and players are friends with players from other teams...

But that doesn`t mean I have to like it!!!

And when I was younger, I complained about the Rooney`s, not paying top dollar to keep the talent they got, in the late 80`s/early 90`s...

    (Rod Woodson, etc..)

But they have shown that they ARE wiling to pay good money(within reason... Antonio Brown, instead of Mike Wallace, etc...)...

But you still have to pay a complete team, and, outside of QB, you shouldn`t break the bank on ONE individual player...

Esp, if he is selfish, and doesn`t contribute to the chemistry of the team...

We really haven`t even "broke the bank" on Ben...

That may or not change in the future...

Right now, I believe we offered Bell a more than fair contract, and he turned it down.

Pretty much ANY RB coming out of college now, understands they need to be what he has been...

A complete back, with the skillset to "hit the hole", pick up blitzes, and be a receiving option...

They Also don`t tend to last long, given the contact involved at their position...

I`m sure we will be fine without him.
Would we be better with him?
    Sure,
But not at the cost he expects.
Enjoy the greener grass on the other side of the fence, LeVeon!!!

My view may be unique here but I don't see this as either side's fault. This is a negotiation where both sides are playing by the rules as established by the NFL and the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

To really drive a hard bargain in a negotiation, you must be willing to walk away from the deal. Here both sides are driving hard bargains and are willing to walk away with no deal, because both think they have decent backup plans. We know Bell has to show up by game 11, or this whole dance repeats itself next year, which Bell does not want.

Bell's backup plan: He loses $8 million for missing 10 games but gets to rest up and take no hits, show up for game 11, show off his skills hopefully with a chance in the playoffs, and then earn an enormous contract next year.

Steelers' backup plan: Save $8 million on the cap for Bell missing 10 games, see how good Conner really is, and get Bell starting in game 11 fresh and rested for the playoffs.

One big hitch here is that both Bell and the Steelers want the playoffs. So my prediction is that Bell holds out and watches. If Conner is either too good (making Bell's value fall) or too bad (so the Steelers might miss the playoffs), Bell shows up early. But if Conner is adequate enough to keep the Steelers in the hunt, Bell rests until game 11.

The fans lose because we love watching Bell. But now I'm actually looking forward to watching Conner. So maybe Bell's holdout is win-win-win?

At this point, are the 9 people who voted “Bell is getting a bad rap” realizing they can now change their vote. Contract and business aside, how can any educated person defend Bell’s lack of professionalism?

Would've loved to have used the non exclusive & pick up two 1st rounders with the inevitable loss of Bell next season. Steelers don't like to use it for some reason.
    Perhaps:

a] Financial Feasibility -They're careful not to top load their roster.
b] Communication - Mistaken belief they would, not could, negotiate positive outcome
    c] Class

    Could've, would've, should've...

Well.... in case you haven’t read the weather report.... it’s RAINING in Cleveland. What should Bell do? Get WET? I mean, if the pollution index is high enough and that rain gets on you, there’s no TELLING the blemishes that may develop. Next thing you know? There go his multi billion dollar endorsements. Is that what you’re asking him to do? Give up BILLIONS of dollars???? The greatest football player AND rap artist of our generation??? No, he needs to stay dry, out of the sun, and entertained until the timing is just right....

He might just skip one game and come back. I still would pull the tag. If he sits 10 games and tries to come back there is no way I would give him $14 million for just 6 games. By that time Conner will have 700 rushing yards and the team will be saying "Le'Veon who?"

I just don't think Bell is going to cash in like most think he will. If he does it will not be anywhere near what he thinks he is worth.
By the start of next season he will be 27, has had two knee injuries, been suspended once for pot, and only averaged 4 yards per carry last year behind one of the top O lines in the league. His longest run last year, 27 yards not exactly a game breaker maybe already losing a step.

Bell and his agent see Gurleys contract as the starting point but they are way off in my opinion.

Its not rocket science to see what happens to almost all running backs when they get to that magic number of 30 yrs old. The Rams are betting Gurley has 6 yrs left no one will bet Bell has more than 3 or 4.

I am more in favor of the running back by committee, 3 RB's for 8 or 9 mill. By the playoffs all three guys have played and know the system if one guy goes down your down to two experienced guys.

Bell has been good very good but its over he is not worth the money, or the damage to team unity with the locker room split already.

Its not like he has led us to any more super bowls, oh yeah he is hurt most years by the time the playoffs arrive.

Don't worry, Bell doesn't get paid when he sits, he loses something like $850,000 per game. So if Bell comes back for game 11, he'll get paid just $5 million for 6 games. Also I believe the Steelers have the option to not activate him for up to two more games to save another $1.7 million.
