Are you sure you were even alive in the 80's?

When he finally signs. Suspend him or whatever you can do to keep him outside the facilities and away from the team. While trying to find the worst team possible that will give us a serviceable RB or highest pick to deal with him and hopefully sign him long term.

They have the most regular season wins since that time. Your definition of competitive is flawed.

I don't think a team would offer more than 17.5mil per year and give up 2 1st rounders.

Do you also remember how historically bad those teams where for decades. I don't think in your lifetime the Steelers would ever become a laughingstock in the league .

Pulling the tag would be dumb. He'd be free to sign with any team at that point. The team wouldn't risk him going to an AFC team.
Any team would love to sign Bell. He runs, catches and blocks exceptionally well.

Probably not but I think Bell is gonna be in for a rude awakening when trying to get a deal next year. He's clearly not helping his cause....

What could they suspend him for? He hasn't violated any rules, he can't if he isn't contractually with the team.

People need to keep in mind that this is not a situation where someone under contract is holding out for a better contract. Bell is not under contract until he signs the franchise tender. There really isn't anything the Steelers can do to pressure him at this point. If Bell is willing to forego the weekly check then the Steelers are stuck waiting for him. Pulling the franchise tag is not going to happen because then Bell is a FA and gets exactly what he wants. I don't see the Steelers caving into him in that way or it basically is free season for the next tagged guy to hold out until released. Terrible precedent to set.

You really don't know s**t do ya? We got a bonified genius on our hands. So your argument is Kordell and Neil were on the same talet level as Montana and Elway?

I don't although honestly they seem better at pass blocking than run blocking. I've seen too many games where physical lines manhandle our offensive line. Regardless, every RB ever has relied upon their offensive line but that doesn't mean all RBs are equal. Bell has more yards from scrimmage through his first 60 games than any other player in NFL history. I think you are going to have a hard time arguing that the Steelers have the best line in NFL history.

Normally need to put up big numbers to get a big contract.

Sitting out, no big numbers and a year of rust. Bold strategy, see if it works for him.

With all that has just happened with his teammates, you run the streets of the North Shore naked if someone offers you two firsts.

The conversation was about how they structure contracts and how that relates to consistency in the nfl. Bells agent cited both the Steelers and Packers as teams that are doing a disservice by the way they structure contracts.
I find that funny because both teams are very consistent, missing very little playoff appearances in the last 13-14 years.
Those teams generally choose to draft and develop vs throwing huge guaranteed contracts for outsourced help.
The packers don’t acquire new players with huge guaranteed amounts. They still have not despite signing some new players.
You cite Rodgers signing, who was drafted and developed in house and the best QB in the league as proof to have changed their philosophy.
    1. He was not outsourced
    2. He plays the QB position and is the best in the league
    3. How do you think the packers could afford to do that, because they don’t have a ton of players with huge guaranteed contracts.

You’re missing the point. If we don’t tag him next year he can sign with whoever he wants. If we tag him we can wait till the last minute and pull the tag then he’ll have less options for his services since by that time teams are pretty well set.

I don’t think they would have to offer more than 17.5 per year. This dude is only worried about guaranteed money. He’d probably take 5 years at 50 mill all guaranteed.

So I have a somewhat personal question to ask you and maybe this will clear up a few things.
You have a lawnmower for sale for $400 and your neighbor wants to buy it. Problem is he doesn’t have all the money upfront so he wants to make you three payments of $100 for a total of $300. Now keep in mind one time when your car broke down he loaned you his extra one for a few weeks. Now do you make the deal with your neighbor or do you throw that mower up on CL thinking you could probably get an extra $100 and get it all at once?

Probably down in Miami at some strip club smoking it up and doesn't want to take a physical for which he will be suspended anyways.

I know people want the Steelers to cut Bell loose and run with Conner. But do people really want that? Conner is unproven... sure he can run, but can he line up as a receiver? Can he block? Remember he's already had 2 MCL injuries.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe Vincent Jackson was the last skill position player to hold out til the 10th game..... and in the end he went to kill his career in Tampa for slightly less than his franchise tag..... poetic justice or lack of vision?

Out of curiosity, if Bell gets a huge guaranteed chunk of change, what happens IF he gets another cannabis infraction and is suspended for the year?

Would he still get his money and would it still count against the salary cap?

It’s a fact that he is an absolute STUD...but is he worth the risk? How dreadful would it be if he broke the piggy bank and then got suspended or even injured for that matter. Those kind of contracts can quickly cripple a team. There are 52 other players that must be paid as well. Others on this board say Bell will thrive elsewhere but I’m cynical. If he had been drafted by the Browns or Jets would he actually be posting similar numbers? Me thinks not. So in a way and to some degree he owes the Steelers organization for his accomplishments.

It’ll NEVER happen, but perhaps players should be paid a base plus performance bonuses.

Have always been a Juice fan, but I’m done at this point. Next man up. Big Game James ... come on down ...
