And I get that, I do. He's just a guy on the street right now, no different than you or I. I was just wondering if they have any ability to suspend him the way the CBA is worded, but probably not as you mentioned because he's not technically an NFL employee right now.

Then we loose the compensatory pick. If we played him 50% (or even bench him) for the remaining, say, 9 games, it's probably worth it for the extra pick no?

Curious... if he sits out the entire season and does not accrue and *then* we release him... do we still get a comp? i know we don't if we release him before week 11.

First of all the team can rescind his tag any time during the season if he doesn't report, if he holds out for 10 games he cant sign the tag after that and his season is over, Bell is really screwing this team and himself and maybe he knows he cant pass a drug test right now, there is a load of theories about this immature delinquent.....

Bell is committed to having the best statistical season of his career? What statistics? Pissing off your teammates? Being a petulant child and refusing fair contract offers?

Someone will sign his ass too. No way he should be signed for being a bad teammate.

Should have just let him go. If they couldn't agree on a deal last yr how would they agree on a new one when he was healthy, ranked 1st team all pro, and considered a top 10 player in the nfl and best rb by his peers as well as several football analysts and aficionados this past year.

There is really only two reasons Bell is not there right now. I just heard his agent say "Bell would love to win a Super Bowl in Pitt, but this is the business of football"

This is not. He can sign and show up or not and stay home. There are no more negotiations allowed.

So he is 1) Trying to punish the Steelers. ..or 2) Trying to force a trade.

But that trade is going to be hard because the new team will have to be willing to just give him whatever he wants or they will lose him after one year just like Pitt.

    HACK

... but yet they gave Alex Smith, an average QB like Cousins, long term money. Redskins =

Maybe Bell filed for unemployment and doesn't need the contract money the Steelers are offering?

Honestly my feelings about all this drama leading up to this didn't really move the needle for me. I assumed he would be back Week 1 and both he and the team would try and get the best season they could and should for his future and our teams success. Now I think he and his agent are playing with fire....

No one has ever taken it to this extreme by sitting out 10 games. He and his agent better watch themselves because as much as there is always a dumb owner willing to shell out money for talent,no matter what. At the same time there are only 32 owners and they are very loyal to each other with a rare exception here and there. If he isn't careful He is gonna find himself blackballed from this league especially considering how well respected the Rooneys are....without getting into the whole flag debate there are players currently being taught a lesson as we speak.....Bell could easily find himself in a similar situation.

I don't know how he or his agent feel this tactic is helping his cause in any way....1 year older and without a productive season to use as a barometer of your worth...

Marshawn retired because of the sb situation with sb and they werent willing to deal him at the time do he retired and forced there hand and look at that someone took him. Leveon is too talented of a player for a team to not take a chance on him rather dumb or not. Some other team may deem just 10 million gurnateed too low for his services as qell.

Not sure of Lynchs deal financially and commitment wise but I'd guess it's nowhere near what Bells demands are and that makes all the difference in the world. Not sure wher you're coming up with the 10 million guaranteed number?
Now look I have a 20 year old son and if I ever found out he was.......nevermind....sorry ,I almost went all Glenn on you right there :hehehe:

I just thought of a silver lining in all this. The OL is really rallying around Conner...they're gonna go to war for him Sunday......watch. They're pissed and they're gonna show Bell up...

It reminds me of the movie The Replacements where once the star QB comes back they all hate him and bench him for the scab player.

Remember the longest yard when the OL purposely didn’t block and let th QB get destroyed?

The closest comparison would be Crabtree holding out his rookie year and trying to hold the 49ers hostage. He made it to week 8.

I can't decipher your sentence structure, I'm assuming that you are in class and trying to pay attention so I can't respond to that first sentence. As to the Cousins part again it is still a bad example to try and use. He signed his tender and played both years. He handled himself in a professional manner and wasn't a media distraction. He had a number that he felt was the right value for him and wasn't able to get the Redskins to meet it. They traded for Smith and Cousins got the deal he wanted from Minnesota all without acting like a douche. It's a bad comparison just like all recent deals are bad comparisons.

This. I think the whole team, not just the o-line, rallies around this and they all play like their hair is on fire. I would not be surprised if the Steelers put up a fifty-burger.

Bell may not report for awhile, his agent and Bell are worried about being overworked since this is his last season with the Steelers.

All I can say is thanks for all of your input (To the Steeler`s Board Members)..
I am very confused about who has "leverage" here...
When it comes to signing the tender, contract negotians, etc...

I thought there was a deadline back in June, or whatever for him to sign his tender...
And after that, it was a moot point.
Clearly, I am wrong on that...

If he does not sign the 14.75 mill or whatever tender by a certain date, do we retain his rights to trade him for draft picks???

I only read a couple of threads about it, before I found this one.

How long can he hold out at a cost of 8 point something million per game, before he becomes a free agent, and we just release him?

This is why I hate the money side of the game...
For one, I don`t understand the rules,
and, for two, I hate it when a guy says " I wanna be a Steeler for Life", but, hen, "They gotta pay me"...!!!

Bull****, Leveon, You are a great runing back, but,

NO Runningback is worth what you are asking!!!

Gurley, did what you said you wanted to do... "re-set the market"...

If I believe what I`ve read, we offered Bell about 15 mill/yr, for either 4 or 5 years, with about 80 mill gauranteed...

Last year, and he turned it down...

We offered him a little better package this year, and it STILL wasn`t enuff..?????

    Sorry LeVeon, but.. F you!!!!

There aint a player in the league at your position, that deserves that money..

I like you, but we will be just fine with James Conner/ Stephen Ridley at your position...

Smart move by the front office...

Now, How can we get 1st round draft picks from a lowly team in another division,
when it`s clear we don`t want him here anyhow, and we are willing to part ways with him anyhow?

    That is really my question.

What can we get for him, before we cut ties with him anyhow, and, will we save the 14+ franchise tag?

What leverage does Colbert have in this situation?
