    :hmm:

    Hmmm...

An even more significant gamble is if Dobbs is theoretically signed to another quarterback needy team and has a successful career there; imploding in both Tomlin and Colbert's faces. Imagine how the fanbase would feel then.

The most colossal gamble would have been to keep Jones on the roster; only for him to walk as a Free Agent in 2019. That only leaves Ben and Mason. No third option. Furthermore, while Mason has shown progress, why not arm oneself with the ability to evaluate two quarterbacks who could someday take the reigns as opposed to one.

Darwinism will take over from there; the exact statement I have made all summer regarding both Dobbs and Jones. Find out who among the two will likely succeed Ben in the future.

It is not just about the overrated, overplayed and most of all, overstated narrative of "going all in". It is about managing both the present and future. That is why Jones got cut. That is why Dobbs is on the final 53.

Most of all, such a decision is why the Steelers will be successful for the years to come.

I read the NFL.com story, too. I know this is just a message board, but if you use somebody else's words, you should give them credit. Perhaps this will seem silly to some others, but due to my previous and current occupations, I don't care for plagiarism.

Why do you think it is a colossal gamble to leave the No. 3 quarterback job open next season? Sorry, but it makes no sense to weaken the current team over that concern.

Actually, keeping a veteran and a rookie is a way to manage both the present and the future. The Steelers risked the present for the future. It may pay off. And maybe they will get lucky and Roethlisberger will stay healthy. I certainly hope that is the case.

You are welcome to your point of view. It is obviously one the team shares. But to say the other side is unreasonable simply is not correct.

The same reason the Steelers have been keeping three historically for a good part of the time the AFL-NFL Merger happened back in 1970; a failsafe. Not having a failsafe should the second option be injured is beyond ludacrious to the point of it being made into a comedy skit.

Regarding your point towards have Jones and Dobbs, that is even worse. Now there are four quarterbacks on the team; beyond incomprehensible. Why kick another player off of the team in spite of the fact that, again, Jones will be gone by next season.

On that note, that is part of what likely caused this decision in addition towards Jones being at the limit of his potential. He had reached his maximum and was not going to develop any further. He is what he is. Investing in the future is something the Steelers have consistently done since 1970; the most wins of any team in that span a testament towards their approach. The Rooney's are not new to the business by any stretch. They, Colbert and Tomlin all saw what they needed to see from Landry. He was a stopgap option and nothing more. They have yet to see what they have in Dobbs; all the more reason he has the potential to become something more.

In short? Pittsburgh already has a "present" term option named Benjamin Todd Roethlisberger. Pittsburgh's "future" is yet to be determined. That "future" will be decided in time. Landry Jones, as stated before, was a stopgap option and only option. Overvaluing someone like that is what teams like Cleveland and Washington have done and have payed for dearly. Pittsburgh is not one of those teams.

Please be accurate when representing what other people post. You did not do that here.

I never suggested that they keep both Jones and Dobbs. You either misunderstood or made that up. There was never any chance they would keep four quarterbacks.

I don't see how anybody thought there was upside in Jones. That wasn't the point of keeping him. The point was to have somebody who can step in and win a game or two if Roethlisberger gets hurt. I'm not overvaluing him here. I just understand there is value in a solid backup.

Again, accuracy in your representation of the posts you argue against would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Please don’t get him worked up. Then we’re going to have to try and figure out what all those big words that he’s going to post in his response that nobody’s ever heard of mean.
    Lol...

No, Bell won’t break 95 yards against Cleveland. (Are you looking over my shoulder?)

Nobody seems to be considering that the Steelers might view Dobbs as the better option over Landry right now. I don't think it is out of the realm of possibilities that he is. Mobility is a very important trait in a QB and not only can Dobbs move to this point he has shown the ability to throw the ball on the move. Landry could do neither.

Pretty sure the only team Landry ever beat was the Browns. I think Dobbs can step in and beat the Browns if he gets help from the rest of the team. Otherwise all Landry ever did was help keep it close in a loss. I am not sure why everyone seems to be assuming Dobbs can't do that and will be a total disaster if he is forced to play this year. He will make mistakes but so did Landry. At least Dobbs isn't going to need perfect protection to have a chance.

Jones also beat the Cardinals, though technically he came off the bench in that game. The Steelers were losing and he brought them back.

Also, this idea that mobile quarterbacks don't need protection simply is not true. If the passing game is going to work, the quarterback needs time. Mobility is nice. Understanding the offense and making throws is better.

Understanding the offense? If Dobbs can figure out the average air velocity of a unladen swallow, whether it's African or European.......I'm sure picking up a NFL offense will be a breeze...:thumbs up:

Considering that he continues to contradict himself, I have fully given up on him.

No point in dealing with unthinkably, colossal arrogance.

And there you go making it personal again. I haven't contradicted myself. You made that up, just like you made up the bit about me writing that the Steelers should have kept both Dobbs and Jones. I never wrote that either.

Never said Dobbs doesn't need protection. Of course he does. But at least there is some hope of a play still being made if there is pressure.
