I'll give you the safety position, but you can't go with one NT. I'm not sold on Big Dan myself, but you have to have a backup.

Also they have to weigh the risk of who they feel they can get to the practice squad easier. If at the end of the day between the 53 and the PS you have the players you want does it really matter? I mean we still have Adams and that was the other persons gripe.

In this defense I'm not so sure....and McCullers isn't much of a back up plan. He's more of a one trick pony at the NT position. All he can do is push the pocket most times but hasn't the agility or ability to do anything when he gets there...I would take Hooks to Burger King 3 times a week and he would be a better option....

Ok then take hooks. Still makes my point that somebody has to be the backup NT. And that's the roster spot Turtle wanted for Adams.

Yes in hindsight it worked out....for now. Although he can still be poached. I'm sure there are gonna be a few comings and goings in the next couple of weeks....

Yes it did work out, but that's pretty normal around here with people being impatient and freaking out.

Yeah I'm glad we got both of those guys, but I'd be surprised if there weren't a move or two made over the next few days with the PS.

Like I said I'm not sure how important a backup NT is to this D and personally I'd rather have my backup OLB on the 53 where he is safe rather than my backup NT...that's just my opinion.

They have two backup outside linebackers and Thomas has gotten some work on the outside.

and we kept 5 olbs on the 53 last year, Watt, Dupree, Chick, Moats, JH92.

the number of players at each position is flexible, so there are no comparisons being made player to player. Its the 53 as a whole

So Adams made it to the practice squad so At least they get to look at him some more and if there’s an injury then they can call him up.

Not trying to be a wise ass but I know who they have and I do realize Thomas has been getting some looks. My point and it's purely my opinion is that I feel our DL is pretty much a strength and McCullers doesn't really make it any better. Combine that with the fact that our hybrid defense is taking DL off the field .
At the same the I feel OLB isn't that strong. Watt is the only one I have confidence in and he hasn't practiced all PS. Dupree and Chickillo have proved to be nothing more than serviceable at this point and then OA who although looks promising is also banged up and a 20 yr old rookie. I feel we took a risk and it worked out getting Adams to the PS. He has a year in the system and we thought enough of him to keep him on IR all last season. He lead the team in QB pressures(11),had 7 tackles and 2 recovered fumbles.
The problem is that he can still be poached from the PS at any time.

Meanwhile we have McCullers who finally awoke from his 4 year slumber to try and make the team. I see that he has no PS eligibility left which is probably biggest reason why he made the 53 , meanwhile being the 6th DL he will hardly ever get a hat and his roster spot has the potential of costing us a guy we felt good enough about to draft but then never gave him a chance. Again IMO it's not a risk worth taking even given the fact we can still promote Adams to protect him. It would require a additional move as well though. I'm just surprised we have only 4 OLBs on the roster at the moment when it's a position with so many questions now and for the future of the position....I guess we'll be drafting OLB with our first pick next year....

    Rant over.......for now;)

It’s just a little weird how some get fixated on some of these late round picks and UDFA’s to the point that they get so mad when they don’t make it. I’ve seen very few that we’ve cut go on to make a decent career elsewhere.

I'm in this camp. The issue with McCullers is sometime he shows up and sometimes he doesn't. When he shows up to play he makes penetration into the backfield and disrupts plays. He's not a 3 down player but situational for running downs/short yardage downs IMO.

I think the point is we know that they’re most likely always keeping two NT’s. So no sense in focusing on that position as a spot to cut to make room for an OLB

Agree which is why I don't see his need on this team. Yes he can get in the backfield when he's feeling up to it,but he still has no clue what to do when he gets there...

I think the point is we can keep 2 NTs but why do we need to keep 2 on the 53 especially when 1 NT won't dress anyway. Throw in the fact our DL ( except Cam and Tuitt) are being taken off the field quite regularly. I think especially for me personally I am focusing on the DL position because I feel McCullers is too 1 dimensional and can easily be replaced. If he was PS eligible you would be able to keep him in case of a emergency and not use a spot on the 53. You can possibly look at the S position as well and trim some fat. I just think the team is better served with keeping more potential at OLB especially considering the questions both present and future....I think that's the point trying to be made. A part of me thinks it is most likely the S position that gets trimmed down but there are concerns with the health of Burnett. Once the pecking order gets settled there I can see the OLB position being restored to full strength. Let's wait and see....

I guess they could go with one NT on the 53 and one on the PS. I’m guessing they must see something in McCullers that they want to keep him.
