Until Thursday evening I was a 100% in agreement with this, but after what Dobbs' put on tape Thursday he will not clear waivers. And frankly, given what he did show, I'm not so sure that he can't be relied upon to win a game or two in Ben's absence. I think they keep four until they get a trade offer for Landry.

I don't discount what your saying and rolling the dice is usually not what the Steelers do especially with Landry's starting experience.

I was down on Dobbs before this preseason. But he has made a believer out of me. Personally I would trade which ever QB demands the highest draft pick in return. I think we will be fine with either Dobbs or Landry as the backup. I would not keep 4 though. I would rather have a position player.

I agree it would definitely be out of character for the Steelers. But I think Dobbs has forced them to consider that his athleticism and smarts might be enough to close the gap between him and Landry when it comes to the ability to win now. So unless they have already decided that there is no way he will become the qb of the future, his potential far exceeds Landrys', and that is just too much to discount.

i would send jones packing and have dobbs be the backup. I think with 1st string talent he can do something. Keep polishing that gem in mason and let him shine in a couple years.

Why can a team roll with a starter that has never thrown an NFL pass but not a backup? Too much being made of Landrys experience. Dobbs is clearly a better QB and has playmaking ability.

I agree its not the Steelers way, Im just pointing it out it. Hopefully the'll remember that Jones didn't have NFL experience when he took over either.

What's funny is in the beginning of this debate I figured they would definitely be going with LJ because he gave them the best chance to win a game or two. Now that I think about it what would have given me that notion? Was it his 3 wins against Cleveland? I've been pulling for Dobbs because of his youth and potential but kinda figured we would go conservative and keep Jones. With the way Dobbs looked on Thursday and Colberts recent comments I think it could go either way. We can probably deal Dobbs for a 7th but if we can hold on to him and develop him even more ,we can probably turn him into something a lot better this time next year. I think your right that his upside outweighs the fact LJ may have a better small percentage chance of winning us a game or two but there's no real proof of that either. At this point in their careers Dobbs has looked much better than LJ, especially when you consider their college paths . Question is do we gamble on the potential? Or do we live in our fears? We shall see soon enough.....l

I am more unsure as to how there was no late hit call either.

It's the Steeler way, but this time they went off the script and kept Dobbs. I'm not a Landry supporter but him being in the system made it seem he would get the nod. Dobbs performance the other night seemed to have sealed the deal.

Been moving away from that, rookies been getting on the filed sooner then in the past. Look at JH last year, kept all that experience on the bench for rookies.

Dobbs is clearly a better QB. Glad they chose him.

Dobbs had almost no fans on this board, he was basically the punchline of a joke, until preseason started

you have to keep players that play their way to a roster spot, thats what Dobbs did, I am not saying I want to see Ben get injured, but I want to see Dobbs play a real game, dude, I gotta say, feelin real good about our QB room for the future, Mason has to earn his spot too, so I see Dobbs and Mason competitively feeding off each other and making the other better, if Mason wants the top job after Ben retires he has to earn it, I am in kind of celebatory mode here, Ben and Dobbs and Mason, best possible outcome became a reality, imo

The Steelers made the right decision. If Ben goes down, we are screwed either way. If he is only out for a couple of games, maybe we have a slightly better chance to win with Jones and I do mean slight, but I think it would be negligible. Jones has been here 5 years and in my opinion has not improved at all. Dobbs and Rudolph are far ahead of where Jones was at this time in his career. That means if they keep improving, we may finally have found the heir to Ben because Ben certainly will not be around much longer. My money is on Rudolph once he is polished.
