Hundley from GB traded for a 6. I can't see Dobbs fetching more than a 7th. not really a great return but if there's interest somebody is gonna just snatch him before he makes it go our PS. Take a hit on Thursday Dobbs and stay down...

Why would a team trade for Dobbs? If he is sent to the PS he will have to clear waivers and then he could sign with anyone. The only way he gets traded is if we keep him on the 53. Who hits the waiver wire then?

Because if someone wants him they will try and trade for him before he gets to waivers, where anyone ahead of them could put in a claim. I think I got that right...

That's the point: who wants him? I can see far more attraction for Huntly, who only went for a 6th. He's actually played - and won - some NFL real games.

Great little interview of Dobb's and Mason Igot on fb...I can't seem to link it , but I really like what Dobb's is saying ...I think he has that it factor and will get better and better the more time he gets . I see real progress from year 1 to year 2 . My take is he is 15 or 20 % better and he very well could match that again because of his natural skills and his love for the game matched with above the line mental capacities.

Will he ever be starter capable ?Maybe or maybe not , but I love a young player with skills and willing to work to hone those skills .. Letting him go is mistake IMO , but time will tell....Can he become a solid #2 ? My answer without a doubt is yes .... We will need a solid #2 sooner rather than latter so keeping LJ over Dobbs is a mistake IMO...

Hopefully, Dobbs does very well on Thursday. If he does, he will probably be traded for a 4th round pick. There are about a half a dozen teams in need of the promising backup QB.

He is a really likable kid when you listen to him speak. I really hope the kid sticks somewhere, sadly it won't be in Pittsburgh.

I too hope he does well and I would be thrilled if someone paid a 4th for him. I don't see him worth a 4th though.

Ben might play another 3-4 years, Dobbs isn't going to be #2 with the Steelers ever.

So if Colbert can't get a 4th for Dobbs, then fire him.

Surely you have more faith in Steelers highly respected GM, Colbert than I do and yet I expect him to get a 4th.

And that's exactly why we can't afford to let LJ go. If we need a solid #2 this year he is our best bet. It would be great to have it both ways but the salary cap and 53 man roster doesn't allow that luxury, and sacrificing a #2 today for a #2 tomorrow just doesn't make sense when you're playing to win it all now.

face palming aside, the best outcome is that Dobbs and Mason fight it out until Ben retires and then we will have a solid one, two

Well he did manage to get a 3rd round pick for Martavis, in which we picked up Mason Rudolph. Not too bad.

I say if he gets a 4th round for Dobbs put him in the GM hall of fame.

Correct, he will have to clear waivers and then sign with anyone. There will be many players trying to at that time. I don't think he stands out that much.

I'd also add that he would trade a known situation for a big question mark. He has two years invested in Pittsburgh and the community. He has spent time in the Steelers systems and knows how the offense works. If he signs onto another PS or even a 53 man roster he is starting from scratch and maybe they use him as PWP suggests on gadgets plays that ould potentially hamper his growth. If he stays this season on the Steelers PS he has the potential to replace LJ next season

Can't link it on my age dated I pad here but there is a link on 247 sports saying teams are inquiring about trades interest in both LJ and Dobbs for what it's worth.

Anything concrete? I saw similar story that was speculating on 7 teams that could potentially be in the market for QB help but was long on prose and short on substance

I would be surprised if they weren’t. A lot of teams in QB hell, who may not want to risk waivers.

Whether that turns into anything more than inquiries... we’ll see.

When I say he doesn't stand out amongst other cut players is there will be a lot of them in the same boat. He has to know if he stays here he will still be 3rd team with mason here next year. Why wouldn't he want to go somewhere new with at least a shot at the backup spot. So many teams only keep two now. Actually they say over half of them. Say 15 teams left with 3 qbs. Let's subtract us then. 14. Some of these teams have their 3rd guy already, so let's say half. Now he has a 7 team window. Don't you think 7+ other qbs will be cut by Friday? That's why I say he doesn't stand out much. Many of the cuts do have some actual experience on a meaningful NFL field during a game. The numbers are not in his favor.

Early on I had us keeping Dobbs and trading LJ. I have been one of LJs biggest supporters too. If we are looking short term LJ stays. If we are looking long term, Dobbs and mason stay. The latter gives us a cheaper option for the next couple of years.
