Not enough of a sample size to draw that conclusion, in my opinion. He did some good things this afternoon. Remember, he is playing mostly with rookies and undrafted FA's.

What did he do wrong today for you armchair coaches?

Dude played a solid game playing with WR’s and lineman that will probably never see the field on Sundays.

Moved around in the pocket and had poise about 100x better than last week.

He's only capable of check downs or short throws, not seeing any NFL level play. He's playing against 3rd stringers for a half. Not getting the ball down field at all

Way to early to pass judgment on Rudolph. He has shown enough flashes to make me think he's going to be pretty good.

Mason ain't ready to start tomorrow, but he doesn't need to be. Maybe, he was a 3rd round steal, maybe not, but I'm not gonna write the guy off based on his first 5 quarters of preseason football.
At the moment, he's the designated future. We'll see how that goes.

I have no idea if he’s going to be good or not, but I know what you’re saying isn’t even close to “FACTS”
More like an opinion or a prediction.

I think you must have missed all of the long throws he made in college. Probably because you haven't looked at a single one of his highlight tapes.

The OL he was playing with were 4th string guys. None of those OL will make any NFL team.

If a check down pass is what the defense gives you then you take it.

No one knows anything at this point. We have a couple more years of training camps and preseason's to go before we'll know how good he is.

I watched a good bit of OSU games and youtube highlights after the draft. Not a lot of defense in the Big 12. I saw Tebow, Manziel, Jamarcus Russel, Blaine Gabbert, Paxton Lynch, Brandon Weeden and countless other big shot college QBs lght it up in college. Meaningless to bring up college imo. Mason does not possess the "it factor" and what i stated is not a fact but it's most likely true. Largely underwhelming player and will never start for the Steelers baring injuries to 2 people in front of him. I think he's smart but is also too nervous and doesn't possess the arm strength to make a lot of throws that are required in the NFL

I am also concerned about his inability to throw it downfield. He has to let it go. This is preseason and the wins don't count, so there is no reason to hold the ball like he does. To tentative at this point. Yes it's early but he has to show some abilities to at least be judged on. Dobbs had made some strides at this point last year. Maybe not great but got better by the 3rd and 4th game. I know he is a 3rd Rd. pick this year but Dobbs was a 4th. Not a lot of difference. I know he is Mr. Lately but I'd hate to pass on a better QB just because of perceived potential. Right now he is not the 3rd best QB on the team. I don't have to make that decision though.

It's not meaningless to bring up college. He made a lot of deep and accurate passes in college. Many. Not one or two or three. MANY. There are plenty of highlight video's you can watch to see them.

The Big 12 doesn't have good defenses? The throw still has to be made whether a guy is covered or not.

I didn't say he is going to be great because he played well in college. I said you can see he has the ability to throw it deep. If he's playing it safe now then he's doing exactly what he should be doing. No one wants to try and stand back in the pocket for 5 seconds with an OL made up of 4th string guys who won't be on any NFL team in two weeks. The team made him hand the ball off to Samuel's a lot today to try and protect him because his OL was not made up of football players.

Mason doesn't possess the "It factor"? Good. I'd rather he stayed an underdog for two or three years and then comes in and has the chance to prove himself with the 1st string guys.

There is nothing nervous about Rudolph. Last week he threw an interception on his first throw and then went back in and moved the ball and threw a touchdown pass.

You're making things up based upon some draft report.

Glad to see we’ve written him off after a couple preseason games. I mean, surely all the great QB’s lit it up in preseason their rookie year....

He has shown enough with the 2nd and 3rd teamers, playing against 2nd and 3rd teamers. He had a few on the money that were dropped. One they called an interception, I believe was a strip after the receiver caught it. Anyway, I think he did well. He won't be taking over the backup role from Landry, but he definitely deserves to be here.

Here is a fact..if I gotta watch much more of Landry play I'm gonna puke..pretty sure Mason could get better results right now. Mason moved around the pocket and took what the defense gave him.He is only gonna get better and that's more than I could say about Landry

Far too early to be making that prediction. Actually he played pretty good for his 3rd game ever in the NFL with a brand new team. He looked more comfortable then last week, and yeah he used the checkdown often. I don't have a problem with that at this time.

I'm calling that in time he'll be pretty good.

It's funny that Ben gets criticized for not checking down enough and here is a rookie getting criticized for doing it too much :lolol:

Guys got 5 qtrs under his belt and being written off.

I’m tired of trying to tell these people how irrational they are. It never sinks in. When they end up being wrong they just move on to the next irrational prediction.

Ben is a hell of a good QB that made big plays and won a lot of games his rookie year and has sustained high level play for a long while. Ben has his fair share of dump offs with bell , but also can make literally every throw in the book and has been able to for quite some time . I'm not trying to compare him to Ben , but something is wrong with Mason when a vast majority of throws are check downs. Not everyone is cut out for this league , he was a 3rd round pick that was worth taking the chance on. As of right now it's early but I just don't see anything really that's positive to take away from his game . Dobbs is far and away better at the moment and he was touted as a project when Mason was a possible day one pick . I'm not a sky is falling guy and I don't look at scouting reports or sit around and do useless mock drafts . I just cant see anything that says more than back up.

    Mason is not Ben.

If we all recall, Ben had Jerome Bettis available to open up the play action in his rookie year. On top of that, Ben would have a knack for running out of the pocket extending plays and targeting receivers downfield. He'd look kind of sloppy, but due to his size and athleticism he'd end up getting big plays downfield.

But he wasn't perfect either however; but I don't think anyone is saying Mason is the next Ben. I think Mason will be Mason, and when he settles into the offense he'll be fine.

Also keep in mind that especially in the NFL, the QB-Receiver chemistry is critical. Obviously Ben and AB have this down. If a Safety is positioned here, do this route, etc.. That takes time to develop where the two know where the other is going to throw/be with a particular lineup/defensive formation. You could see a couple of times Ben was frustrated in the game because him and the receiver weren't on the same page.
