Always talk about offense or defense but I like to give love to special teams. Special teams is the force that can drive the offense or defense. Gives you short field, gives opponent short field, how far you kicker can make a fg or constantly have to punt because he can't reach.

I would like to say as far ask kicking goes, boswell is a beast. We can definitely improve in a lot of areas.

Let's see our rankings from last year.

Kickoff return average was ranked #29 with 19.1 yards per return. 1 Td.
Kickoff return average allowed was ranked #18 with 21.1 yards per return. 0 Td's.

Punt return average was ranked #23 with 6.9 yards per return 0 Td's.
Punt return average allowed was ranked #15 with 7.7 yards per return. 0 Td's.

Punting average was ranked #31 with 43.2 yards per kick
Punting average allowed was ranked #16 with 45.6 yards per kick

Pittsburgh was fantastic for field goals.

Ranked #5 in percentage and #11 in percentage allowed.

Aside from Bosgod our special teams can use a overhaul starting with Berry lol.

I agree. Berry started out good, but then regressed. He has too many shanks like I do when I play golf. Who was the guy who lost the punt battle with him? Can't remember his name.

Danny Smith has been useless. So inconsistent. Chew some more bubble gum Danny.

Actually we have many good STs players in this camp if they all make it. Fort, berhe, Allen, dirty red, Henderson, nix, DHB, sutton to name a few. Should be good in coverage.

Must be able to win all three facets to get where we want to be. Disappointing special team.

OK, I'm a special team's guy too. Love the contributions...

But Nix and Touissant on returns for the 1st qrtr....serious.??? Where is Henderson, I didn't see the live broadcast so I was relegated to the updates but how is a difference supposed to be made when the same old, same old is in place. Add to the fact that Nix or Touissant couldn't break a long one anyway, what are you judging??? This is mind boggling...

Stat's will change somewhat this year with the new kickoff rule that was part of the continual pussification of the game.

    Kick?

So you want him to replace Boswell as well. (A little rhyme there)

Please look under your sofa. I think the marbles you lost are under there.

With the rule changes, returns at least become less and less important. They've taken that element largely out of the game unfortunately.

It really makes no sense to keep Quadree Henderson for example.

Getting rid of a top 5 kicker would be dumb

I never said that. You do know he kicked 2 of the extra points for us against GB. Against Philly he averaged 48 yards per punt while berry averaged 42. They both put one inside the 20. It would save us probably over a million dollars a year and be more consistent.

getting rid of an inconsistant punter making 1.907 million dollars a year would not be dumb though. i never once said anything about boswell. just that the kid can do both. thats a pretty handy guy to have around and save a lot of money and perform better.

Yes I would do it today. Just tell each guy in practice you have one punt whoever is better is on the team.
Berry will crumble under the pressure and Wile will be our new punter....and if we keep him around a few years he will be a Wile veteran:smiley1:

Puntet Jon Ryan from Seattle released.

He's old (will be 37 this year) but we've had luck with veteran punters in the past.

His kicking has always been solid.

Worth a look? Competition at a minimum.
