Ab didnt far exceed his numbers from 2016. He just had more yards. His best season seasonsxwere 2015 and 2016. He got paid last yr and hasn't put up numbers to match those. Guess he's declining to then right?

Cut to the chase: 70 million / 5 years, 40+ of it in the 1st three puts him up there with the highest in the league period. The Steelers don't have New York money or bad team cap space yet they managed to get in that fantastical ball park that Bell was wanting. They were trying to retire him a Running Back for the Pittsburgh Steelers at 26. They stepped up, Bell wants a "Few Dollars More."

Someone will pay more, front load guaranteed, but not by much.

I think he was ok with the contract but not the guaranteed money. That's what the problem is. Just because his contract is 5 year 70 million doesnt mean he's guranteed to get all of it. This isnt the nba.

40 + of it was in the 1st three, which means the guaranteed was up there. Not 10 mill. Prolly just not the 14.9 /15 he wanted. A few dollars more

40+ mill was not there for the first 3 years according to Bell's agent. The Steelers wanted Bell to accept a rolling guaranteed structured contract. My understanding of a rolling guarantee is the money wasn't guaranteed. I understood why Bell declined the offer if a few million dollars more was the issues. Say like a few dollars more like 20 or 30 million in guaranteed money he has a chance to receive as a FA.

Bell would had made 10 million + this year on a one or two year contract. He's basically getting the same security with the franchise tag this year as the Steelers offered with their contract. I see the contract the Steelers offered Bell and the franchise tag as basically equal for this season. For example, the Steelers could cut Bell after one year with little repercussion to their cap if he suffers a career ending injury.
Bell is taking a gamble on himself. He will still have a lot of value after this season if he can remain healthy.

    Thank god.

The NFL has much smarter people running it. And obviously smarter players.

Again say he signed that deal and then Pitt decides he's no longer worth that year after next. He DOESNT SEE ALL THAT MONEY. he was only fully gurnateed 10 of that. Those first 3 years worth of money dont gurantee him anything. The Steelers can cut bait at any time

Exactly. People dont understand that just because that money was offered in the first 3 years means he would get it. He could have had a bad year and then pitt could come to him for a paycut or cut him and he only sees 10 million of that contract.

Can you cite specific examples of the Steelers giving a player a long term deal that was as large and cutting that player after 2 years? Let me tell you what would have happened had he signed the deal. They would have immediately kicked the can down the road making sure that they had cap space for just in case injuries. He would have had this year's money rolled into an upfront bonus and pushed next seasons base money up. Then next year they would do the same giving him two years worth of money at the start of each season before he has even played on top of the rolling money. By year three his base salary would have been near or over 20 mill and they would restructure again do yeah by the 4th season he would be a target to be cut as he would be over 30 and his base money would make paying him with out a new deal or restructuring an impossibility but he would have the lions share of that 70 million much of it upfront and be free to sign for whatever with who ever.

So what. Why should they pay him if he isn’t playing for them? What if his production dries up? Why should the team be on the hook? The only money that should be guaranteed is the money you earn.
I get it. You’re playing college ball and you’re going to side with the players.

Exactly and he would be making 15 to 20% more than the next guy at his position. With his injury past and his rule violation that contract was more than fair . Teams just don't value the RB position in todays NFL. Bell will be lucky to get 8 or 9 Mil a year from another Team.

As stated earlier he is now in a no win situation. To have a great year means to much wear and tear meaning Teams wont pay up. A bad year and he has already hit the wall.Teams wont pay up. Bell made a huge mistake and he and his supporters will see that very soon.
