You might find this hard to believe. But, Maddox almost had the steelers within minutes of going to an AFC Championship game in the 2002 season. If not for Joe Nedney, winning the Oscar for "Best Flop in an NFL playoff game"

Tomczak, never even came close to doing that.

One thing about Maddox, he had one of the nicest Play Action play fakes a QB could run. It was very solid and fluid.

But, he would look great one game then terrible the next game and throw 3 picks. Tommy gun wasn't always consistent.
He played a heck of game against the Browns in that Wildcard playoff game. Steelers by all rights should of lost.
Tommy gun brought them back. It was possibly one of the best game ever played at Heinz Field to date.

Don't get me wrong: When Maddox played well enough to end the Kordell era, I was his biggest fan. When he burst into being the starter, he was pretty good. And that 2002 team wasn't garbage either, it had some talent.

    https://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/pit/2002.htm

Hines Ward, Bettis, Plex, Mathis, Fu, Kreider, OL of Gandy, Faneca, Hartings, Simmons, Marvel Smith.

The D had Aaron Smith, Hampton, Kemo, Gildon (he used to be good), Porter, Farrior, Kirkland (but the DBs were the teams weak link of Charred Scott, Dewayne Washington, Flowers and Burnt Alexander).

Then 2003 hit and Tommy's carriage turned back into a pumpkin. 18 TDs, 17 ints and a 6-10 record. And the team really wasn't that bad, but Tommy was, proven by what Ben was able to accomplish just the following season.

Yea, he wins first place for most games in sweats on the sidelines. I knew that was a bad signing day one.

That 6-10 season was the one and only time Cowher tried to vary what his team was on offense. The success of Maddox and Ward and Buress that year helped convince them to be a passing attack not counting on the fact that it was Bettis and the ground game that opened up the pass. Then they tried getting Bettis going late in the third when the defense wasn't worn down. Horrible season all around ugh.

And yet he still has the same amount of rings as Ben, that's an accomplishment in an of its self.

Wasn’t Maddox the single season yards holder until Ben broke it?

Can't believe Kevin Greene didn't jump out there with Jerome Bettis. He only played a couple years in the Burgh, but was an awesome player.

Also James Farrior did great coming from the Jets

Tim Lester led the way for the Bus

Just throwing some other names out there. I would say Norm Johnson and Chris Gardonki were pretty darn good. Some even say Chris Gardonki never had a punt blocked. :hmm::lolol:

For what it’s worth, I missed that. It just looked like a yawn face with cheeks.

Are you going to start one for (D)?
