McVay, Quinn and even Harbaugh over Tomlin? Really?

Classical examples of both the Travis Effect and Hasty Generalization.

    I think he's somewhere around 15-17, IMHO. 9 is a little high.

Where would yinz rank Don Shula all time? Tomlin is right there winning wise. Top 20 all time imo.

Hard to take the list seriously when they rank Vrabel so high just because he's from the Belicheat coaching tree.

Maybe winning percentage... but not total wins. Tomlin has only been HC for 11 years. Shula coached Dolphins for 1/4 of a century. Shula won 2 Super Bowls, but couldn't win another with Marino.

Shula was one of the top coaches of his time. His biggest fault was not providing Marino with a top RB to put Dolphins over the top in the 80's and 90's. Tomlin inherited a talented team and went to 2 Super Bowls, winning one. Tomlin has assembled the greatest offense the Steelers have ever put on the field, but his failure on the D-side is epic. Plus coaches like Belichick and Pederson make Tomlin look like an amateur, when it comes to in-game adjustments.

Some lists have Tomlin 3, 4, 5, or where ever. Rankings are only a matter of opinion. Tomlin's had a successful run with the Steelers up to this point.

If Tomlin can coach for another 20 years he might beat shulas win record of 328 wins, with a 116 wins mike has a way to go, but out of 494 coaches he is ranked 33 in wins, and that is pretty good.............

Not to mention he is right behind Shula and tied with Gibbs for most wins in his first eleven years; 116 a piece.

    Shula has 117.

True, shotty could win regular season games but just couldnt win a playoff game, sorta like us lately. I feel sad for schottenheimer now though, he has had alzheimers for the last couple of years...

Sad that Schottenheimer has alzheimers. I didn't know that.

I remember Cowher being accused of playing "Marty-ball." Good times.

That is all right, Belichick has been winning with Pete Carroll's players for years now!

it's no coincidence when the last of cowhers players left, this team never made it back to the big dance. Tomlin/Colbert do not have an eye for defense.

damn I sound like Heinz LOL

You're trying to be funny... but Belichick drafted Brady. Carroll was long gone when Brady arrrived in 2000.

No more funny than decrying that Tomlin won with Cowher's players. Besides, now you are punching below the belt by saying I was only trying to be funny. I laughed when I typed it, so I know that I am funny for a fact! (that is how that works, right?)

technically he did win with cowhers players lol. Cowher lost (95 sb) with nolls players, took him another 10 years to win off his own. we are nearing 10 years from our last win

I find people criticize Tomlin so much that Cowher's tenure gets romanticized a bit. There was no excuse whatsoever for losing the 94 SD game & 01 AFC Championship game. They were clearly superior to both of those teams.

Let's not forget that Cowher was a Ben tackle away from blowing the 05 playoff game in Indy.

Yes... I agree about the 1994/95 AFC Championship game vs. Chargers. There was no excuse for that loss... and it's worse than any playoff loss Tomlin has so far incurred, including Tebow game.

I remember I was fed up with Cowher after 2003's 6-10 season. I wanted the Rooneys to find a replacement. And then the '04 draft happened and everything changed... plus LeBeau returned as D coordinator. I'm willing to give Tomlin 14 years... same as Cowher. Let's see what happens. I wish Tomlin the best... but his track record isn't very promising. IMO, I don't think the Steelers will win another Super Bowl with him as coach. I hope I'm wrong.

Tomlin is top 5? My lord the bath salts are strong these days.

Guy makes 0 in game adjustments.

Guy is probably one of the worst clock managers I’ve ever seen.

He is supposed to be a defensive minded coach yet our defense continues to decline and fail miserably at drafting players. We just had maybe the worst defensive playoff game in NFL history.

And he clearly has no control over his players or locker room but yes he is top 5.
