Let's not forget that the head coach (and the team, by extension), was focused on facing the Pats, before they even beat Jax (which they obviously did not). You CAN'T evaluate that loss without considering how the head coach had the team focused and prepared. If Tomlin is the 2nd best head coach in the NFL, that means 30 of the head coaches are terrible.

The Jaguars had the 5th highest scoring offense.
Better than the Steelers, Chiefs, Falcons, Vikings, and Lions.
If the 2 games against the Titans didn't drag down their average, they would have been right behind the "juggernauts".

The Jaguars offense is one big illusion, mirage... whatever you want to call it. Just like the Steelers 13-3 record and the Steelers defensive rankings vs. the run and pass. All of that crap is nothing but meaningless stats. The Jags offensive ranking would mean something if they dropped 30+ points on the Patriots average defense. The Jags.. played the Patriots better than the Steelers, but the Jaguars offense was pretty much blanked in the 2nd half of the AFCCG. Everybody knew the Patriots were going to win that game even after being 2 scores down.

Tomlin... the 2nd best coach in the NFL? I don't think so. Not even close, IMO.

I'd take 4 more maybe 5 other current HCs ahead of Tomlin... not counting Belichick, any day of the week. There's some HCs in the NCAA that would do a better job than Tomlin, IMO.

    This.

I was all about stats but eye tests show different. Steelers got bullied all jags game.

2005 and 2008 defenses had that "swagger" (hate using that word) that you knew could take over a game and shut down an opponent.

blake the hitman bortles was doing everything AT WILL vs us.

yes there is hope but I call it how I see it and our defense is swiss cheese at this moment until proven otherwise.

Bottom line, he will pocket (before taxes and agent cut) $2.2 mill. That is fair market value for his production.

Forte is purely depth. He didn't even get the starting job when Shazier went down, they signed Spence off the couch. He's been cut before he'll be the first to get cut again if they need to lose someone.

Burnett was their top FA get, followed by Bostic. Nate might not even make the team and if he does, he'll primarily play ST.

You knock Bostic's health but ignore Nates.

Dollars to Donuts, Bostic makes a bigger impact than Nate.

You could apply the same kind of reasoning to the offensive "juggernauts" too.

The Rams and the Eagles only scored 10 points against Seattle. (The Jags scored 30.)
The Patriots offense only scored 19 points against Tampa Bay, who had a defense in the bottom third of the league.
The Saints only scored 20 points against the Patriots, despite being a better offense than the Jags.

Guess you would say there are no offensive juggernauts at all.

Just like Atlanta in the Super Bowl, despite the Falcons being the top scoring offense that season.

Well... like I was saying: Stats don't mean squat... whether it's Jacksonville's offense or Pittsburgh's defense. Look at the Steelers' offensive rankings for 2005 and 2008. Nothing great... and they ended up champions.

Actually it was 45-42..... Bortles. Was 14/26 for 214 yds and Fornette had 109 yds.....

They scored 6 TDs because spence and Mitchell was garbage...... That's why they're gone!!!!

Nat was signed to compete and possibly replace Golden.... Hoping he repeats his ST performance from last year. He'll most likely never see the field on defense, and neither will Bostic. They will compete for a roster spot via ST and here Nat beats Bostic.

As a value signing ($$$$$ for ability) the Steelers did well. He’s no superstar by any means but did have a career high tackles last season with 97.He graded out by PFF as a little above average for linebackers in the league which on our team is starting material.I see your point that he’s not all that but not making the roster isn’t going to happen!!!

Any time a player gets close to that 100 tackle plateau he is pretty good. That was in 14 games. Shazier had about 8 per game and bostic had about 7 per game. Vince was a little over 5 per game. We don't need superstars at every position just guys that do their jobs and get to the ball and then make the stop. We needed one stop against Jacksonville to win that game and we couldn't get it. That was then.

The colts rushing defense was ranked 26th!!! He may have had almost 100 tackles but if they are after a first down or a run putting the offense in a 2nd and short yds how impressive are those 90 plus tackles ??

We had Sean Davis... A poor run defender and spence and Mitchell .... No Shazier and No dirty red..... And our rushing defense was still # 10...... Can Bostic help ??? Who will he replace? Red, Williams, Fort...

We needed a stop bs the jags bad........ Replacing spence, Mitchell should help plus getting red back.

Bostic isn't any good on ST either so his value drops.

These rankings can be misleading. Teams usually had to pass on us. The jags were an exception. Their offense was built to run. Teams could pass on us. We had leads so teams had to pass. The colts were usually losing so teams ran a lot more against them at times. Not near the talent around bostic for the colts. That was his first year with them in a defense with less talent. There are many factors that muddle the picture of stats. Bostic will help us. Red will help us. Hopefully Thomas will help us. Vince I think is as good as he will get. As for Davis, any team that has DBs leading the team in tackles has problems. Our front end has to do a better job of run defense. Dunbar should help that. Tackling problems are also being addressed. Addition by subtraction should help.

(EDIT: Brain fart... Had defensive rankings backwards, should be higher = fewer.)

The Pats were 31st in rushing y/a against them.
If other teams are forced to pass to get into the game, then an awful run defense doesn't matter as much.

Great points !! Our rush defense ( yds/game) was 10th BUT that's because teams liked attacking us via the air. Yds/att and rush TD we were ranked in the 20's. Poor tackling really hurt. Dirty Red is a tackling machine, technically sound , and very Footballsmart. It will be him and not Bostic that cures our rush defense.

Agree Vince is as good as he's going to get. Solid ILB but not elite.

Also agree on the DL. They really focused on attacking the QB which greatly improved but rush defense dropped ....

I don't know what Cajun is going on about. Bostic is a sure tackler that runs to the football and quick to diagnose plays. He'll be an asset and will help in the run defense immediately.

His health is the biggest question mark. He's done well when on the field though.

Plus, Colberts FA signings arent in the habit of getting cut. Very rarely happens.

Nat ST and Bostic will be starting along side Vince. Book it.

I still think maybe red and bostic will be the tandum before the seasons end. I do think we have 5 guys that are pretty decent. LJ fort though he didn't come in and take over last year still does some things well. Thomas will be bulked up some and we may end up with a pretty good one too. Maybe not this year but soon. A lot of athleticism.

They still only had a 10-6 record, including a loss to the lowly jets and a sub par cardinal team as well to a 5 win niner team, titans twice and the rams, they were not some sort of jaugernaught like some people like to make them out to be..........
