I wish him all the best in his comeback. He was a rock solid tackle coming out of Ohio State. I just wish that his fortunes would have been better.

He was never rock solid anything coming out of OSU, all he had was potential and he was terrible the entire time he was a Steeler, just awful.

I don't know why OT think they can just switch to TE and make it. They are competing with dudes who have been catching balls their whole life and they think they can just lose weight and become better than the TEs out there? Didn't the OT from NO try this too? Kyle Turley.

He should be a good blocking tight end. Not sure what his capabilities are as a receiver. I'm sure he can compete, and wouldn't be surprised to see him on a roster being productive in some way.

Or maybe his back problems and injuries were caused by excess weight, so his only chance to play football is to find a position (TE) that doesn't require 50 more pounds.

Maybe, but he won't beat out the 5 TEs in front of him, on whatever team even gives him a chance. It's kind of insulting.

I would be. And why would he make a good blocker? He was a terrible one in his last stint. Just awful.

I think you're overplaying how terrible he was, and as a tight end assignments are usually linebackers not lineman. I'm sure he'd be a better blocking tight end then many in the league. Guess we will see.

Sounds like a plan too me. Let them both re earn their wings and if it works out that they can earn an NFL spot, more power
    to them.

I'm with Mac, I just don't see it happening.

Hope I'm wrong though..... He was a solid OT at O St. And was a first Ed talent that fell, he personally reached out to the Steelers and they drafted him...

He was stabbed and had injurys including Back and I think this aided his down fall .....

    Good luck Mike!!!

There have been guys who made the transition the other way, though it has been a while. Larry Brown did it for the Steelers in the '70s. He had actually been a starter at tight end before moving to tackle in 1977.

There are quite a few guys who made the transition at the college level. Alejandro Villanueva began his college career at tight end and played multiple positions before finally ending up at offensive tackle in the NFL. (I'm still trying to picture him as a wide receiver.)

Andy Heck was an example of the more traditional route. He was a very good tight end at Notre Dame in the late '80s. He bulked up and moved to tackle as a senior and ended up being a first-round pick before having a solid NFL career with the Seahawks and Bears.
