Grasping at players that can’t do what you need them to do Hurts the team more than it helps. The Steelers went into free agency and signed players that help in areas of need in order to provide flexibility in the draft. That’s what smart teams do.

You mean, smart drafts like this?

    Mendenhall
    Sweed
    Bruce Davis
    Tony Hills
    Dennis Dixon
    Mike Humpal
    Ryan Mundy

Most teams have a clunker now and then, but when you have many positions covered those clunkers don't hurt as much. It would be different if we had those drafts back to back to back. We don't.

Nugatory means of no value or importance.

    Here is an example...

"The teacher shortages will render nugatory the hopes of implementing the new curriculum."

"Immense Nugatory" can translate to "Massive amounts of no value".

    Again...

Are you sure about that? This was the very next draft after that one; it was horrid. Other than Wallace, it was virtually worthless.

    2009 1 Evander Hood 32 DE 2017 0 0 5 38 129 14.0 Missouri
    2009 3 Kraig Urbik 79 T 2016 0 0 4 28 100 Wisconsin
    2009 3 Mike Wallace 84 WR 2017 0 1 8 57 142 0 1 0 0 0 34 241 0 538 8072 57 Mississippi
    2009 3 Keenan Lewis 96 DB 2015 0 0 3 23 83 7 Oregon St.
    2009 5 Joe Burnett 168 DB 2009 0 0 0 1 15 Central Florida
    2009 5 Frank Summers 169 RB 2014 0 0 1 1 27 18 63 2 12 88 1 UNLV
    2009 6 Ra'Shon Harris 205 DT 2009 0 0 0 0 2 Oregon
    2009 7 A.Q. Shipley 226 C 2017 0 0 3 24 89 Penn St.
    2009 7 David Johnson 241 TE 2016 0 0 1 3 98 2 4 0 31 304 1 Arkansas St.

Oh, and just a few years earlier, there was this gem. Is it any wonder these 3 drafts led to 2 non-winning seasons in a row?

Holmes was an acceptable result, but the entire rest of the draft is pigs swine. And yet, Colbert and company walk around like they are so superior in drafting - smartest guys in the room.

    Santonio Holmes WR
    2006 3 Anthony Smith 83 DB 2011 0 0 1 12 76 7 Syracuse
    2006 3 Willie Reid 95 WR 2007 0 0 0 1 7 4 54 0 Florida St.
    2006 4 Willie Colon 131 G 2015 0 0 6 40 100 0 0 0 Hofstra
    2006 4 Orien Harris 133 DT 2009 0 0 0 2 20 Miami (FL)
    2006 5 Omar Jacobs 164 QB 0 0 0 Bowling Green
    2006 5 Charles Davis 167 TE 0 0 0 Purdue
    2006 6 Marvin Philip 201 C 0 0 0 California
    2006 7 Cedric Humes 240 RB 0 0 0

I’ve lost track of the argument here.

Strummer’s point seemed to be that filling holes with solid FAs gave more flexibility in the draft. I don’t see how listing bad drafts addresses that?

Maybe better to list the available FAs we could have gone for in those years, who addressed a position of need?

Just as a small point, Willie Colon cant really be described as pigs swine.

I think the aggressor in that smiley might be getting to that point as well given the instense level of stamina he is draining. :lolol:

The point is, he said you don't have to draft for need with the FA pick ups, which I only agree with to a point. He said that you can draft super awesome with this philosophy and my point was "Look at some of these super awesome drafts using their philosophy." ANYONE who claims some teams only draft BPA is out of it. Of course you have to consider needs no matter what. It doesn't mean you take major reaches to fill needs, but needs always should come into play to a degree or you're retarded.

As I said, look at those 3 drafts: Whatever their philosophy was going in, they crapped the bed those 3 drafts. If our downfall this season is weakness at ILB, I am gonna be pissed.

I know what it means. I also know you used it as a noun and it is an adjective.

You are one of those folks who tries to sound smart by using a big word you looked up only to make an ass of yourself by using it incorrectly.

    Yet you contradicted the premise of the statement. Realistically, and, now that I think about it;

This whole endeavor has been nugatory.

See? I'm glad I could teach you something. Now you used it properly.

You're still wrong about everything else, but maybe there is hope for you after all.

    You sure did!!

You have taught me that, within the past couple of posts, your 1,563 overall posts on this board the same, your contradications within this thread, those who you converse with and this forum as a whole, have been proven to be quite asuming and intriguing.

Within that same vein, the amount of detail and information within your posts are nugatory.

Ultimately though, I do not hope you will become better. I know you can!

    All it just takes is simple humility. As I said;

Humility is a form of confidence; shrouded by the modesty it projects. However if one is to achieve this, they must accept compromise and understand their folly within themselves. It is possible; walks of life or profession being irrelevant.

Then again, historically speaking, scribes were quite conceited in their writings and conduct among others; themselves no less. I did say it was possible but I did not state it being simple. :lolol:

Biggest blunder? Not letting Bell walk and drafting a RB in round 2. I hope the reindeer and his WR prove me wrong. JuJu proved me very wrong. Hope it happens again.

Considering that James Washington was college football's best deep threat and the 2017 Fred Biletnikoff winner, I do not believe that is going to be much of an issue.

If Washington can produce like Martavis Bryant did in '15 and later part of '17... then I'll be content with the pick. We'll see.

You will mainly find that information in theological studies. Essentially, scribes were the highest form of intellectual capability in the world during the second century of B.C.

The issue is, by the time Jesus was no longer among the living, scribes wrote whatever they pleased they deemed law within a form of edicts known as the "Laws of Moses".

Definitley more of the back history to this but this is just the general aspect.:)

The fact is that James Washington can do something even Martavis Bryant could not do; contest catches.

Martavis had to have his throws on a dime whereas James has shown the ability to fight for the ball when it is in the air towards his general net direction; the exact traits of JuJu Smith Schuster coming out of USC.

Essentially, James Washington is a faster version of JuJu Smith Schuster but minus the cheerful nature of him; Washington showcasing a more collective and mature approach.

So you're saying he's like a Marvin Harrison type. Your description brings him to mind. Hope he turns out that good.

I'm not worried about AB, juju and Washington. 4 and 5 are the ones I'm concerned with. We play a lot of multiple wide sets. Now McDonald being healthy will limit those touches but we will have to see how that goes. None of our guys are real burners. Hunter and DHB are those guys at least the fastest we got. This will be interesting to watch.

I think Jon Bostic was an excellent pickup for us. He's a beast against the run & adequate against the pass. Not as fast but better tackler than Shazier but a tremendous upgrade from Spence. I can see us substituting out Vince Williams in favor of maybe Marcus Allen or Terrell Edmunds on 3rd & long situations with Bostic playing the middle ...a 3-3-5 formation ...because we really really had trouble getting off the field last year...
