How do you know? Has he had the chance to test the open market or has he been held hostage for 2 years straight?

He hasn't been in position to test the market to see what he could elsewhere because Pitt keeps franchise tagging him. What do you call that?

Every player runs that risk. Plenty of players across the league in the last year of their contract or on one year deals.
If Bell signs The tag and shows up he gets paid no matter what.

If he holds out till the first Game of the season then gets hurt in that game what difference does it make?

GO AB.... I think AB has the right attitude. Listen, Bell is just being crazy and greedy. I don't care if he thinks he is the second best receiver on the team. He is a running back, and he should be paid like one. With the franchise tag, he will be the best paid running back in the league. What if the Steelers sign him long term, and he has an decline in running yards and catches. Then we are stuck with a 17 million dollar bone-head. Personally, I think the Steelers should rescind his franchise tag, sign either Demarco Murry, Jamaal Charles or Adrian Peterson along with Mychal Kendricks, and still have plenty of money left over to sign someone mid-season if there is an injury. Defense is what killed the Steelers last year and even with the addition of the rookies, they still need help. Peterson showed signs last year at Arizona and will sign cheap to play with a contender.

Duh, he has a chance until July 15 to try and sign a long term deal. If he came to OTA's and got seriously injured guess what he's not getting a big contract extension.

Maybe he had a family situation to attend to , fans always making a big deal if a player shows up to a voluntary workout.

There is a huge difference between skipping all organized team activities and trainingcamp/preseason and being a veteran who misses a session allowing younger guys to get valuable reps and teaching.

Also even though this is a sport it's still a job and both Ben and AB are family guys who might need to miss for end of school events. My 4 yr old just had her pre-K graduation that I missed an hour of work for last weekk

He's no longer under contract.. and the steelers keep franchise tagging him handicapping him from being able to test the market

Bell most certainly is bound by a contract. When he signed his first contract he legally and contractually bound himself to the contract between the NFLPA and the Owners. He did this of sound mind and body and of his own free will.

The Steelers are following their side of the contract with honesty and class. Bell is not. He is showing a total lack of integrity.

Bell is not the only player under these conditions now or in the past. He is the one acting like a jackass though. Max Starks was tagged twice and showed how a class act reacts.

    Exactly. And it's really meaningless.
