The problem is the NFL has destroyed defense. You can do or add whatever you want in terms of scheme and players. Defense is irrelevant in the NFL no matter what.

Seattle and Denver recently won Super Bowls with defense .

3 and 5 years ago? Seattle had the opportunity to have depth because they struck gold with a QB who they only had to pay 400k a year to for 4 years. Denver had Von Miller turn into Lawrence Taylor for an entire playoff run and they barely won games.

Dominate defenses no longer exist. It is gradually getting worse. It's so bad even the mad genius Bill Belichick can't figure out a solution.

The NFL has turned football in the NFL into an Arena Football atmosphere to save their butts by having Fantasy Football be their sole bread winner. If it weren't for Fantasy Football, the NFL would be in trouble. They wouldn't go away but they would not be making the millions they make now.

Seattle won a sb 5 seasons ago and even then they had a good offense they had a hall of fame qb ahd a hall of fame rb. Denver had an elite defense and a good offense. You act those 2 teams were the 2000s ravens with trent dilfer.

Statisically Denver and Seattle compare favorably to some of the all time great defenses.

0 yards per rushing attempt. Thats an impressive defense.

LBs is the problem, imo. In an attempt to rush the passer, the OLBs do a poor job containing the outside rush lanes, the ILBs minus Shazier are just not that good. In a 3-4 scheme, your LBs gotta be really really good, ours are average at best. We need to draft LBs then safties...

I know we can all debate about what the defense needs but please stop posting the defensive stats from the first half of last season. Those stats are heavily skewed, I think most of those teams ranked in the bottom half of the league in total offense and half of them had back-up QBs playing with little to no first team reps like the Vikings.

I just want you to look at which team gave up the most 30, 40, and 50 yard pass plays and most TD plays over 40 yards, that will give you an idea of how those stats didn't mean much. I also think it shows that as the season wore on the D-line guys were having a tough time because there is no depth behind them. Alualu is a breather, nothing more and one of the reasons the jags let him go, a former 1st round pick that couldn't stop a nose from running let alone a good RB.

They have a lot of issues on defense and with the offense I think just having a D that can get a stop in the 4th quarter is what you need, letting a Blake Bortles team put up 45 is inexcusable.

Yeah but their offenses had talent. They had hall of famers. The 2000s ravens offense has one hall of Famer in shannon sharpe. Their qb was pretty much a average Joe told not to screw it up. That's not Seattle or denver. Their QBs had to make plays along the way to the sb.

Steelers held the Vikings to 0.8 yards per rush in SB IX. That’s not bad.

On a side note, that game involved 19 personnel who are now in the HOF.

Losing probably the fastest linebacker probably ever to run in the nfl who is also flat out nasty will kill any defense. The middle of the field was wide open after shaz got hurt. That being said you still can not give up 3 tds to the friggin jags let alone 45 points..............

I understand fournette giving us some bump. He's a future great rb but Blake Bortles killing us? Just incomprehensible. He literally wasn't doing anything fancy either and that's also what made me sick.

Why should anyone give two craps about his 12 sacks? That is exactly 12 plays out of how many hundreds of plays? Whoopi! BFD! The Steelers "D" line is overrated.

IDK compare that to many other 3-4 DEs and see how many they had. He's had 35 in the last 5 years. He's always in the top half of our defense in tackles every year, so yea I guess it is a BFD. He's a good player and we would and did miss what he can do when he was hurt. Not many players have those kinds of tackle numbers every year.

I see alot of explaining away their success or flat out dismissing it. It gets in the way of their narrative. Damn facts!

I’m trying to give you a get out of jail free card because of your pain meds, but this comment makes no sense.
