2 three yard carris set you up in third and manageable. Jacksonville worked that to perfection this past season. It's the Pats bread and butter. Positive play positive play 1st down move the chains. Having a home run hitter is great but getting on base consistently is just as good

Jags were a little better than 3 ypc. Fournette had 3.9 ypc, Yeldon 5.2. But I see your overall point.

Can't contribute on the sidelines. Good change of pace back. Hopefully he can stay healthy and contribute but at this point he won't be in line to start except if Bell holds out. I believe they will draft a running back early.

Conner should have seen more situational playing time last year. 3rd and short with a full back in he should have been given more opportunities to get the first down. For the most part, I liked what I saw from his limited carries. He's certainly not going to be a featured back on this team or any other but if he can stay healthy he can contribute quite a bit to the success of this offense.

I like his class, he runs hard and appears to be a team player. I think someone making a lot more money needs to take some notes.

thank you Thorn,if given a chance his arrow will be pointing up. What people don't want to understand is

James was never going to be the player LB is. He was brought in here to give LB rests (5-10) carries a game

and play special teams. He never got a chance to show his wares. then he got hurt.

With his running style, he won't.

The way I look at it, Conner was the 41st pick of the 3rd round, third from last.
    Closer to being a 4th rounder than a (non-compensatory) 3rd rounder.

If any of the 29 teams that picked ahead of the Steelers had a 4th round value on Conner, then the odds go down that he would still be available for the Steelers to draft in the 4th round. It was not an obvious huge reach, as some people suggest. (The NFL site draftniks gave it a "B" grade.)

If Bell holds out like last year, and JC gets 10 carries a game in the preseason, he will be hurt before the season even starts.

If Bell holds out? It's pretty much guaranteed.

Yea, but if I didn't say "if" someone would pipe up and say that it isn't a given. ;)

Last year, Connor has zero carries in two preseason games, 4 in another, and 20 in one vs ATL. I wouldn't think he'd need as much 'work' this preseason as compared to his rookie yr, as presumably 'he knows the offense' now.

But point taken. Connor running style and injury history doesn't suggest a guy who can have 20 carries a game for an extended period.

Bell did not hold out last year. Nor will he this year. Once he signed his tag, he promptly showed up.

OK, technically you're right. But it has the same impact. Bell won't be really ready until week 4. It's a sh-t way to start the season.
