True. I forgot about Lott. Lott is ranked ahead of Troy on the alltime team but I think it is closer than most so called experts think. I personally think Troy was capable of doing more things to change the game ala that joe flacco sac and fumble recovery to win the game we had no business winning.

As far as this DB discussion is going, if I were going to pick an all time best defense, among DB`s I would pick Rod Woodson CB first because he was best all around DB of all time IMO.

My second pick would be Deion Sanders CB, even though he cannot tackle he was best cover CB of all time IMO.

Would take Troy P and Ronnie Lott at safeties.

But he didn’t and he isn’t. But before you think I’m negative:

As far as DB’s you mentioned they’re definitely top ten but for sure Ronnie Lott has to be there!Having part of your finger taken off permanently to play the rest of the season!Primadonnas today won’t even take a little less money to be a team player let alone sacrifice a body part to help your team win a championship!

He was amazing the 10 years he played here in pitt, dont forget he was also our kick and punt returner for over 7000 yards in just 8 years as well, he was a tackling and pick machine for those 10 years as our LCB, no one better in my opinion, for those of you who never watched him play here you missed a true pro who was a master at his position........

Come on now, get real.... You do realize coaches were told, never to throw to Blounts receiver? You do realize that, right?

There was a game last year that haden did not have to defend one pass but burns gave up 120 receiving yds but also got 1 int.... Who is better burns or haden?

And on top of it he was so good they made the blount rules and he was still easily best corner in football. Blount was ridiculous. Love woodson but he was not blount.......

Im kind of stunned people dismissing Woodson out of hand. Guy was a phenomenal football player. Easily in the conversation as best ever DB.

In1972, Blount’s first year as CB, he did not give up a single touchdown. In SB IX, the receiver against him did not have a single catch.

I did see mel play and he was awesome and I wouldnt diminish his career in any way, he had linebacker size at 6-3 and was a force on the field, even woodson being humble has said he was the best corner to play the game in his opinion, I will say both of them was the best in their own right during different eras of the game........

It's a message board and everybody is entitled to their opinion but...Woodson was a 12 time pro bowler, and 6 time all pro...71 career ints, and TWELVE TD's.

I might even rank Blount " a hair " ahead of him but...Saying Woodson couldn't carry his jock is ludicrous and just plain stupid...Woodson was one of the greatest ever imo

I am more intrigued as to how the OP's original point of obtaining Beckham Jr. transformed into debating two great defensive backs.

    Most intriguing indeed.
